That was Burton Cummings the vocalist on that flute solo. He also played keyboards for the band. These guys deserve to be in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame but so far they've been ignored.
IN 1970 I was in Vietnam my sister sent me a care package with cassettes from the Guess Who and Santana. Songs always take me back to those times.
My cousin in Chicago came up for the draft, I'm Canadian. Our birthdays same month 12th is mine, his is13th. He missed I would have got drafted. 😅
@@lesblatnyak5947 my mother was Canadian.
This song is sooo good! Jazzy guitar, snappy drumming and interesting bassline. And then Burton’s smooth voice! Burton taught himself how to play the flute for this song.
This was HUGE on the radio. Burton Cummings voice is sweet again and the musical arrangements are exceptional. Glad you got HOOKED on this band.
I grew up with this great Canadian band. Some of their hits are "American Woman", "Laughing" "No Time", "No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature", "Hand Me Down World", "Share The Land", "Bus Driver", "Star Baby", "Albert Flasher", "Rain Dance" etc. Burton Cummings has one of the best voices out there. Randy Bachman later left to form (BTO) Bachman Turner Overdrive & had many hits. And Burton Cummings had a great solo career with lots of great songs.
Back when a tank of gas was $5 🍁🙏🍁 and the Canadian dollar was $1.07 Amaercan
One of my favorite groups. Always said they put THE WHO to shame.
Burton Cummings played the flute on this. What a voice he has. Still going today
The guy playing the drums on this song really can roll them.
That's Garry Peterson! A very underappreciated top of the heap drummer. My first real inspiration! Simply great! ✌️♥️🤟🥁
BLOOD SWEAT AND TEARS
YOU MAKE ME DO VERY HAPPYZ great band and song
Burton Cummings had one the greatest rock voices of all time.
I think this is their masterpiece. Absolute perfection!
It was written by Randy Bachman who witnessed a girl become comatose after an acid trip at a party.
As a teen in Winnipeg, Randy Bachman studied with eventual jazz legend Lenny Breau. He has a number of jazzy tunes, including (with BTO) Blue Collar and Lookin' Out for Number One. Definitely check those out as well.
You have to check out No Time frome the same album. It's 🔥.
There is a great American Blues Boogie Rock band named Canned Heat. The Guess Who was from the Plains of Canada. Canned Wheat is a prarie take off on Canned Heat.
Burton Cummings, one of the great voices of rock.
The live version of this from late 60s/early 70s is great too!
A great band and so many memories attached to this song !
Actually it's about a girl who slipped into a coma after taking LSD while at a party.
Wow, I did not know that. Thanks for the info.
Yes, Randy Bachman wrote it after seeing it happen at a party he was at.
Wow no longer the bouncy song I always thought it was.
that feeling you get when see somebody headed for a major psychic crack-up, and there wasnt a damn thing you could do to stop it...
Hang on to your Life is another good one,
He sang American Woman & These Eyes, the first two songs that got his career going, still in high school in a different band. The Guess Who offered him a job & that’s how he got started…Burton Cummings, a man with a beautiful voice! 🧡
Thank you for reminding me of this great song from my far away youth!!
I liked your interpretation. Very nice commentary on this super song. Love it!
Clap for the Wolfman video. That is all. lol!
this is one of those songs that when I see the title, the whole song pops in me puny noggin.
So , so good. "she's come undone...who ooooh whoa~ooooo" Its almost haunting.
LOVE IT!
Love this! I have t seen anyone react to this awesome band! Thanks!
“Up Close and Alone” record, it’s him in concert with just a piano and that voice. Hear his ad libs on that!!!
Great song. Had great voice. Luv no sugar tonight
One of my favourite songs from my hometown boys ❤
Actually, this song is about a girlcwho had a bad experience after dropping some LSD at a party.

I have no basis for this but I thought that it was a girl who was addicted to drugs. And when she found out she couldn't fly, it was too late.
The song was about a girl Randy Bachmann saw go into a coma at a party after taking LSD.
JMBoy is so innocent, the drug reference doesn't even occur to him! Us older types who lived through the 60s maybe have a more jaded view.
It's what actually happened to Randy Bachmann - what he observed at a party. I wasn't around then, but I knew the story.@@sourisvoleur4854
Sounds like your typical Urban myth to me I've never known anyone to take acid and then go into a coma

Burton Cummings probably of my Top 10 favorite male singers. He has a solo song: STAND TALL!! Great Reaction JM! Have to scan your channel and see what else you got! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎
Stand Tall... In the Playlist under Burton Cummings.
Always thought it was LSD that undid her.
MOTOWN.... First there was the girl group "The Supremes". after the lead vocalist became a star it was "Diana Ross and the Supremes"... Then it was just Diana Ross... SUPERSTAR like none other. Every song in the entire collection is Supreme, TOP SELF. Not just a "Rabbit Hole"... The Grand Canyon Of MOTOWN/SOUL Music.
Treat song choice.... Thanks.
This is my favorite Guess Who song and it was actually the "B" side of the 45 single Laughing". DJ's started flipping the record and this song became extremely popular with the listeners. Also I recommend a song from Burton Cummings solo career called "A Song For Him" which I think you would really enjoy. .
I always loved me some Guess Who!
You really need to see the live version from "The Midnight Special", Burton Cummings really kills it.
"DIVA"... If you were around in the 60s you know who the first, the original, the one and only MOTOWN GODDESS.... Diana Ross - When You Tell Me That You Love Me.. Live
Bachman wrote the song after witnessing someone drop into a coma after drug use.
“I don’t know but I’ve been told, the streets of Heaven are paved with gold. Just can’t see what could be worse, than if the Russians get there first” - Robert Allen Zimmerman - Bob Dylan.
You can't mistake Cumming's voice. It's easily recognizable from the get-go. I've been listening to this song my whole life and
have never heard that sweet acoustic guitar piece at the end. Also, I'm puzzled about the Canned Heat label. I know it's the
name of a band but what I don't know is the significance. Btw JMBOY I'm happy to see you're subs are going up!
Love these guys!
Part II 😁 I'm going to guess your awesome Patreon told you Randy Bachman of BACHMAN TURNER OVERDRIVE played and co-wrote some of these. Not sure if included this song but by the Jazz feel I'll bet probably!! 🕊️☮️
Acid casualty. She thought she could fly when she jumped from the steeple of the church. "An LSD overdose is more commonly referred to as a “bad trip.” These events are a combination of physical, mental, and emotional symptoms that can be both debilitating and dangerous to a user. The victim is no longer themselves in these situations, and anything can happen with such vast detachment from reality. Acid highs create dissociative behavior. Individuals have been known to subject themselves to dangerous circumstances without even realizing it. Thus, several deaths are attributed to LSD, again, not due to toxicity, but due to reckless behavior such as walking into traffic, falling off cliffs, among others."
I believe that in this case, it was a girl at a party whom Randy Bachmann saw go into a coma after taking LSD.
I've never heard of anybody going into a coma from taking LSD. I even looked it up to be certain, hence the large passage in quotes. LSD does not work that way. It does not put people who overdose on it into a coma. Now, heroin does work that way, so perhaps she overdosed on heroin and Bachmann falsely assumed LSD or someone told him LSD to save her from a reputation for heroin use. That said, describing someone experiencing a complete break with reality and freaking out on a bad trip as coming undone makes a whole lot more sense than describing someone who slipped into a coma that way.
They have so many good songs that were hits in Canada (I’m not sure how many hits they had in the US). They should be in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame, but I won’t hold my breath. I think the only Canadian band in the Hall of Fame is Rush.
I agree 100% The Guess Who should be in the RRHOF.
Neil Young. Possibly Gordon Lightfoot. Joni Mitchell? There have to be a half dozen or more. Always room for more, for sure.
@@tonydelapa1911 some Canadian solo musicians have been inducted into the the Hall of Fame but I think the only band is Rush.
@@patswanson2870 I see. Thanks for that explanation. I could have read your OP more carefully.
Jazz Flute
How about Bus Rider, Hang onto Your Life from the Guess Who next😊
Not enough people actually guessed who! The real name of the band was Chad Allen and the Reflections.
Yes and then became Chad Allen and the Expressions.
michael buble should cover this!
Number 2 song, most reactors miss this one also.
Your 2 for 2. One more and I will be force to subscribe.
