Today on The Skid Factory, Alan finishes off a few nitty gritty jobs that are still required before the patrol can be driven off the hoist.
It's then fired up and stalled up in the shed to see if the gearbox is performing as it should....

@@theskidfactory I wonder if some the answers inspired Al to tell things to us, too, since most of us probably lag behind a high schooler when it comes to automotive ability.
we had a decent shop class in my high school in nebraska but unfortunately we didnt have folks like Al and Woody putting content like this out there for us to absorb. I was lucky that my step dad ran his own shop, so i picked up a TON of stuff for building cars. but your students are learning from someone who builds real world hardware that gets tested every day. and if they follow his number 1 rule, theyll be just fine ( USE YER HEAD!)
Now in my fifties I try to show youngsters what is possible, and what is been possible before the emission nazis made next to everything illegal in my country.
With a tool like UA-cam and uploaders like Al/Woody, the Binkies, Trev's Blog or Cold War Motors I would have had a much easier entry into the fab-o-sphere than I had tryna brooming and screenwashing my way near to the repair-fabricators and carb wizards, the oilblooded mechanics and selfmade racers of the late seventies and early eighties in the shadow of the iron curtain ....

Fuel plate and star wheel won't affect the idle or the lope. Governor spring adjustment and idle speed set screw will though.
I have delivery valves, governor springs and afc live to go in so not wanting to get too carried away with adjusting things right now.

As Alan said, it's a diesel engine, it's not supposed to be able to do skids. But the last one was good, for a diesel SUV.

I think I know what Woody bought.
The compass + DSC + CV + clogged manifold gave it away.
Woody, if you read this, just do a DPF and EGR delete. I did that on mine within a few weeks of owning it.
They expect you to drive for 20 minutes straight at highway speeds before the ECU will trigger a DPF burn off.
And I ended up clogging mine from just driving around town for a week.
While it was in getting the DPF deleted I had them block off the EGR and clean out the inlet manifold.
Like all diesels, they respond really well to a tune. I got 450nm at the wheels with just a tune.
I used to work one them when they were new throughout my apprenticeship so know the tricks. It’s an NT so no DPF.
@@theskidfactory No way! Can't believe I guessed right! 😄 My NS has 340,000 on it and it's barely been run in. Such a reliable vehicle and great as a tow rig for track cars.

The compushift is so good to use, I just done a conversation and had to tune everything my self. It has so much adjustment and very user friendly, could not be happier with that computer

As a Gu Patrol Owner that sound of the cummins engine rev up was music to my ears, if i had the coin i would rip out the crappy Zd30 engine.
I gotta hand it to you guys, you’ve done a great job of this patrol (so much so that I’m searching for one in the UK to build for myself) I think it’s got a ton of potential once Rich is able to get down to you guys and turn this into an absolute beast of a machine.
