We don't hate Tasmania. I Iove it even if it is a little backward. Just friendly rivalry. We like to take the piss out of each other. Victorians are called Mexicans, South Australians are called Croweaters, West Australians are called Sandgropers, Queenslanders are called Banana Benders, etc.

I have spent a bit of time on Bruny Island. The locals say 'we are on an island off an island off an island.' A few years ago the pub at Lunawanna claimed it was the southern most pub in Australia. The pub at Snug on the mainland disagreed. So they decided to settle it in a very Australian way; a game of cricket. The issue was never resolved as the game was abandoned when the players became too drunk to continue. Everyone adjourned to the bar to continue the argument. One would have thought that a simple check on the map would sort this out but nah, this is Tasmania.

I think the difference with Hawaii being forgotten on a map/logo of the USA and Tasmania being left off an Australian map/logo is that Tasmania is 4 times as big as the Hawaiian islands collectively (the state of Hawaii). We’re not as small as our population would portray. Tasmania is almost exactly the same size as the Republic of Ireland.

  • @Venusbabe66
    @Venusbabe66 7 місяців тому +27

The dark history of Tasmania relates to a few things, including the most violent war between colonists and aboriginals (about 1,000 deaths). Also, before it became Tasmania, it was called Van Dieman's Land and was the largest penal colony - with still the smallest general population, hence the inbreeding two-heads jokes. In more recent times, it was the place of Australia's worst mass shooting at Port Arthur in 1996 (35 killed, 23 wounded) by a guy with a semi-automatic rifle.

The 'Dark times' referred to is the convict jails and ruins in Port Arthur, Tasmania it demonstrates the revolting manner in which the convicts were incarcerated. The tragedy that shocked Australians happened in Port Arthur a few years ago when the lowest form of life slaughtered visitors with automatic and semi-automatic weapons, the legacy from this was the introduction of strict gun laws.

I'm from South Australia and visited Tassie a few times over the years. There is nothing wrong with it at all. It has a beautiful scenic panorama and a lot of Aussie history down there. Hobart is the main city which is situated at the southern end of Tasmania. Famous names like Queen Mary from Denmark and Errol Flynn who played Robin Hood in Hollywood in the 1930s - well they hailed from there. It's got an English feel to it - like British feel. It's a cold place and that would be the reason some Aussies don't like it. But from my perspective, I loved travelling around there.

South Australians serve as a constant reminder that Tasmanians can swim. Anyone who hasn't been to Tassie really should go, you wont be disappointed.

Bumblebee establishment in Tasmanian occurred on the 19th Feb. 1992. The native "Blue Banded Bee" on the mainland is also technically a bumblebee (Buzz Pollinator).

Funnily enough, I lived in Tassie until 2001. First time I saw a bumblebee was when I went back in 2005 on holiday. Spread took a few years. Maybe just took time for them to make it to the north of the state.

Hey Ryan always enjoying your channel. Hobart tasmania is a stunning city. Magnificent veiws of the water and mountains snow capped often. It's seriously cold at times. Old Victorian stone buildings. Great restaurants in north hobart and the waterfront. It's an 1hr 15 flight from Melbourne. Which is really a large city. As Victorian there's definitely an an connection with our southern cousins. Along way from Indiana but worth being on the bucket list. Crisp cool sunshine filled days across stunning scenery 👍😀

I'm Tassie born and bred, and would never live anywhere else. We are a small Island, we don't have a huge population but we have a slower pace of life, we have amazing beaches and stunning mountains, beautiful forests and rivers and the cleanest air in the world, We drink our water straight from the tap (not all mainlanders can do that) we can drive from one end of our Island in around 1 1/2 - 2 hours, about the same time as some mainlanders spend driving to work. This amazing little place is laid back, the people are friendly, happy and funny. There are a lot of things that aren't perfect here but we'll maybe contemplate changes over a good brew with mates and family or probably not.

Tasmania is a great place full of natural wonders, ancient forests, the cleanest air in the world, great food and wine and friendly people. It has a dark history mainly due to the harsh Port Arthur convict settlement. Most of tasmanias towns were built with convict labour. Port Arthur is also the site of a massacre that happened on April 26 1998 where a lone gunman killed 35 people. This is the reason for Australia's current strict guns laws.

Have never met a person who hates Tasmania? Must be thinking of Queensland 😂 I think the “dark history” part was in relation to the convict population, port Arthur massacre, deliberate extinction of the Tasmanian tiger and the absolutely especially horrendous treatment of Indigenous people in Tasmania (the population was almost entirely wiped out after colonisation, and it is a really dark smudge on Tasmania’s history).

For the record, I don’t hate Tasmania! Why would anyone hate an entire state of Australia???
As for Tassie linking up to NZ, that would be a definite No! The distance between Tasmania and Melbourne is 624km.
The distance between Tasmania and the South island of New Zealand is 1,880km, three times as far.

When I was in Tassie many years ago I saw a t-shirt for sale which had an image of a huge Tasmania with a tiny Australia above it with the slogan ''Let's put things in their proper perspective.'' I also had an awkward moment when a local asked where I was from and I answered ''Australia.'' I realised very quickly that I should have said ''the mainland''. I never made that mistake again.

That's what I would have thought. All very well having heaps of great beaches but bitter sweet if you can't take advantage of them because it's too cold to go swimming.😏
If it's colder than Melbourne then count me out. Admittedly, after a week or more of 40++ temperatures here in Perth, (humid as hell and still 33C when I went to bed last night 🌡️😰) I'd really welcome a few days of cold weather, but in the long term I really can't handle the bitter cold. Plays havoc with back pain and arthritis 😖❄️

We are from South Australia and have lived in Tasmania for 17 years. Paradise on earth where we live. 2 acres of land, creek 5 minutes down the road, river 20 minutes further on, and Bass Strait another 20 minutes. Mountains an hour from us. What's not to love. Not overcrowded either. As a joke the mainland can be referred to as the Big Island. Be jealous people!❤🇦🇺
