Bobbie at the start looked too well to have AIDS. But she did and it seems she died in 1988.
And this program is very 80s indeed. Reminds me of the adverts that was used in the UK to do with the virus.

I have been searching for any information on Bobby also. Such a sweet, optimistic woman given her circumstances. I only hope her husband was able to go on and find some happiness in life. It would be wonderful if she somehow survived but the chances are not likely.

no vaccine for this disease and yet we have a rushed vaccine for covid because it affects heterosexuals. i wish her the best.

@@itsaaronlolz Covid is a corona virus, HIV is a retrovirus they both have very different pathology. No one has ever made a successful vaccine for a human retrovirus. The lack of a vaccine is unrelated to prejudice against homosexuals. Also more heterosexuals globally (mostly in Africa) get HIV than any other group, only in the beginning of the AIDS epidemic were homosexuals disproportionately affected.

She didn’t survive, some people on here did some research and pieced together the puzzle, she was battling AIDS related Pneumonia 14 years or so before any helpful treatment…

@Aaron Bear covid 19 is derived from already widely known viruses, hiv/aids was completely new and completely unknown; it baffled doctors and scientists; it had nothing to do with it affecting mainly gays!

That guy at 7:15 ish is really amazing at public speaking! He’s going a mile a minute. I’ve been fascinated with the AIDS crisis for a long time; from mismanagement by government to the beautiful story of empathy and humanity in how people came together to take care of their fellows.

Another thing, the doctor who is working with Bobby really doesn't seem that confident. I think he knows the drug benefits are limited and temporary.

I’ve been trying to find that out also, some people did make it long enough for the newer better drugs, but she had a large window to make it that far… I have a bad feeling she most likely didn’t make it … :(

@@funkyflights Yeah, going from the known timeline, for the good outcome to come about, she'd probably have to be alive and somewhat well for, what, about 10 years after this program aired? That's an awful lot of time for this disease... It's truly heartbreaking, though, seeing the desperate hope and terror reflecting on her face (especially when her husband is talking about it).

I don't know the outcome of Bobby, however I did research and I found the AZT trial in Washington D.C. she was most likely in, (national cancer institute per the info in this documentary) and unfortunately everyone in that trial passed away by 1989. I used Google to find this information.

I loved Bobbi she was brave doing this. I worked in the AIDS field in the US during the early years and sadly they all died. I loved Bobbis hope. In the end AZT wasn't the miracle...I always hoped she had an easy death and her husband is OK.

AZT really was a shot in the dark. I understand it gave some unpleasant side effects to people affected with AIDS.

There are people who like Bobby, had been infected with HIV in the early 80's and who are alive and well to this very day so I would love that she too is.

    • @FrightNight1980

Bobbie's HIV had entered into an AIDS phase at the time of this doc, even (it's mentioned she came very close to dying once due to acute pneumonia that only develops in AIDS patients), while the follow-up doc from 1987 mentions she's practically on her death bed in the hospital, so I think this really says everything about her chances of a happy outcome. Unfortunately.

    • @adrianh332
      @adrianh332 2 роки тому +3

Milan there's a difference between becoming infected with HIV and suffering from AIDS. There are indeed some people who became infected with HIV in the mid to late 80's who survived long enough to receive effective medication in 1996/7, there are no people still alive who were diagnosed with actual AIDS in the mid 1980's.

They did a recent trail about a new vaccine for HIV/AIDS and the trail failed.🥺 I heard about this on the radio last week. Sad, I'm sure they'll keep pushing forward to find something. I feel bad for volunteer's who probably thought that this could be it and that they can live without the virus.
