- In this video I document the beginnings of my Bhangra Journey. Bhangra is a Punjabi folk dance and I've become really invested in it! In this video you'll see me get schooled by VP Bhangra, a dance academy in London and at a large expense go and see Diljit Dosanjh & VP Bhangra together at the o2 arena in London for the Dil Luminati tour.

im not gujarati but i think their local dances like dandiya, garba are really fun
Hi Lali. To get better with your rhythm it will be better if you learnt at least one Punjabi song from memory . Your can them humm that tune and dance to that flow . What tends to happen with most people is they do not know the song they are dancing to so they find it hard to master the flow of bhangra . Bhangra is always done to the song . Even the bhangra moves will be different for each song. Hope this will help you to perform better . There are UA-camrs known as " modern Singh's " and that girl learnt the Punjabi songs and her bhangra improved ten fold !!!

Traditionally Bhangra was strictly for males and Giddha was for females. It's atill the same in the villages of Punjab.men perform Bhangra and women Giddha. What you have in the West now is not Bhangra but a mix of acrobatics, hip-hop/rnb and Bhangra mix.

Anyone can Bhangra, all it takes is a beat (including single cylinder diesel pump beat), lots of exuberance (if not daru) and letting all your limbs go wild. What they are teaching is stylised Bhangra.
