About the song:
"On Days Like These" is a song originally recorded by Matt Monro, with music by Quincy Jones and lyrics by Don Black. It was written in 1969 for the British caper film The Italian Job, where it is played prominently in the opening credits, uninterrupted by background soundscape. Despite never charting either in the USA or Monro's native UK, the ballad went on to become one his most famous songs.
What a voice, what a song absolute greatness all around, not the trash that passes for songs these days😇✨

A fabulous, lush song from Quincy Jones and Don Black, performed by the best male vocalist the UK ever produced, and one of the very, very best from anywhere. Matt Monro is up there with Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Sammy Davis Jnr, Bobby Darin, Bing Crosby, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Barbra Streisand, Judy Garland, as one the GREAT singers and interpretors of modern music.

He never really got the credit for the great singer he was when he was alive.A natural effortless perfect voice - unmatched today.
He did. He lived a celebrity life owning a villa and travelling concerts around the world. Here in the Philippines he had a concert in Araneta coliseum in full pack 65,000 people, and better attended than the one by the Beatles. He was also a very popular singer in Latin America where he recorded many beautiful spanish songs. I think what he lacked was the adulation from his own countrymen the British.
@@dennisvillegas yes i gather his ballads went down particularly well. Our Queen rated him highly but he never did get the widespread acclaim here. Perhaps being a roadsweeper and Bus driver before could have compromised or prejudiced peoples opinions but it shouldnt. I sing too and was previously a milkman so hope it doesnt comeback to haunt me! ;)

It is said that Sinatra listened to Matt Monro songs ALL the time.
More difficult to get right than people realise. Matt makes it sound an easy song to sing. Quite a skill needed to get the words to fit in at the right places and at the right time. Brilliant rendition. What a voice.

This my most favourite song, ever, it captures such beautiful images in my mind's eye. I love it so much that when I played it on our car stereo I told my husband wasn't allowed to speak through it. As soon as it started I'd go 'Ssshhh' but he was a bit of a wind-up merchant and would always find something to say or do pretend coughs, lol. I'd get irked and restart it. My beloved husband died back in 2018, I played this at his funeral and told everyone the story about it. How I'd love to hear him speak or cough when this was playing now. 😔♥
