- Matt Monro sings 'From Russia With Love' (with lyrics)
Matt Monro was one of Britain’s most iconic singers.
He recorded the very first James Bond Theme song -‘From Russia With Love’ - represented Britain in the Eurovision Song contest in 1964 with ‘I Love the Little Things’ (in Copenhagen) - finishing second - and had many international hits which included ‘Born Free’, ‘Walk Away’, and ‘Portrait of My Love’.
Matt died on 7 February 1985 aged 54 and only 5 days after receiving a telegram from Frank Sinatra which said:
“Sorry to hear that you've taken ill and hope you'll soon be on the mend and up and about. I send you love and prayers.
Your fellow boy singer,
Frank Sinatra"
Frank Sinatra said of Matt:
"His pitch was right on the nose: his word enunciation letter perfect: his understanding of a song thorough.
“He will be missed very much, not only by myself, but by his fans all over the world."

In case you were wondering ....That's class right there.
Amen, brother, amen.
My sentiments exactly
I do believe Frank Sinatra said Matt Monro was the Best Male Vocalist in the World!... Thanks for you honesty Frank
Your the second best!
Pure class
Definitely…
Sadly gone forever!
This was wonderful!♥️🌹🇮🇹🇬🇧
His voice is like ice cold water, extremely satisfying and refreshing.
Kinda like those russian paratroopers that got dropped into freezing cold Ukr waters and died

And one of the best Bond movie to,if not the best.
Agreed

RIP Matt Monro and Sean Connery may each souls to both of you Rest In Peace, the two of you are gone but will never ever be forgotten...To Matt thank you for all the wonderful songs you have left on us, and to Sean you will always be our James Bond.Thank you to both of you, for the undying contributions in the world of music, and movie.

The way he holds that last note is phenomenal.
The best and most poignant song of all the 007 movies...so unmatched as romantic...makes the heart vibrate ..
Absolutely
We Were So Lucky us Boomers,These Kids Now All They Got are them Poxy Phones
My dad used to sing us this song every night like a lullaby.
@@lizoetting4570 oh, how precious this is!😭💔
@@alfching2499 👍 Our generation was so lucky having experienced all the stages of development. So sad to see what kind of music we have now.
I listen and listen to this song hundreds of times. Voice nothing short of spectacular.
His voice in this pretty damned perfect.

So have I, my friend.
@@francoistalarico5402he was a bad man; 😂what a baddas singer!
The Man with the Golden Voice.... The singing bus conductor ..... Or just the most beautiful singer in the world. Every e perfect .. No one had a psych on Matt ...X
The best Bond song...
Indeed. What a Voice...
Nope! Goldfinger ftw
In 1963 i was 13, and since that i've been a Monro fan. He left us much too early. RIP.
Such a shame the song doesn’t get used in the intro sequence like most other Bond films
@@jckauffman6004 I think it actually fits better at the end; the instrumental version in the opening is terrific.
The legendary Matt Monro...
The singers singer, quality and perfection all in one.
This song holds a special place in my heart because it was my grandmother's favorite song when she was still here 🥺❤ She asked me to download it in her phone and would always play it while in the kitchen 😌💞
One of the top themes from a bond film. He had an amazing voice
Matt had a beautiful voice!! RIP Matt, your voice lives on.
I love his voice and I love this song
Sadly he left us but his voice and memory will live forever RIP!
Wonderful song. Wonderful voice.
Masterpiece, unique voice that penetrate inside your heart and skin.
It's unfortunate we don't have this kind of voice nowadays...
What about Justin Bieber?
Cherkaoui Fouad, te invito a qué oigas esta canción en la voz de Daniel Boaventura, es un cantante excelente, de maravillosa voz baritono, también canta My Way, New York, New York entre otras.
@@bruceli9094 Bieber? Eh.
But Matt Monro? This man’s voice sounds totally remarkable, just like Frank Sinatra! From Russia with Love is such an amazing film and I’m glad I gave it a watch. So worth it!
Michael Buble? Guy sounds like he's from the 80's
How so i sing like this in the shower every day
I first watched this movie when I was five years old. My dad had a bunch of VHS tapes lying around our tv and he introduced me to the seies. Its always a tradition of mine to watch this movie on my birthday no matter what. The other day when I turned 26, I cried at the end when I heard this song, its not because of the sad moment of Kerim's death but because of how beautiful this movie is. Its just so perfect, and in my opinion no other Bond movie can top it. RIP Sir Sean Connery !
Best Bond song ever!!!!
Easily.
Matt was a class act & From Russia With Love is by far the classiest Bond film.
For me OHMSS is the equal of FRWL in that department.
@@michaelschramm1064 It’s close I like OHMSS a lot, but Lazenby is a plank of wood. Best Aston Martin & soundtrack though
@@Warp75 Lazenby was always my favorite Bond, but then everyone has their favorite. Agree OHMSS is Barry’s penultimate score and both Ian Fleming novels, curiously enough are the best he wrote.
This is one of my top 10 of the best James Bond songs
An unequaled voice. The strength of the 007 Bond movies was supercharged with Matt' s incredible interpretation of this great title song.
From Russia with love! A very fantastic song and sung my Matt w/his velvety voice wow!
I always love him.. He just had an incredible voice that no one can compare..
One of my fave bond themesong ever.
The English Frank Sinatra wonderful voice like velvet and every word so clear
Rest in Peace Sir Sean Connery. Truly a classic man of his time.
By far the best at portraying 007 although I think George Lazenby could have run a close second given the chance.
For me it was the most outstanding James Bond movie and by far the best song. Receive a grateful memory, Sean Connery. Now and always you will be in our memories.
How sweet memories that song brings to me, my Sweet Lord!
What a spiritual voice! Masterpiece...

The great Matt. You are legend. You didn't sing, you spoke the lyrics
Truly extraordinary- Matt Monroe was.
Fabulous Song! May it long remain too!
when they say Matt is the singer's singer it's because there are simply NO WORDS to describe his golden voice; that's one way to try to express it. MM transcended the medium of the romantic ballad and the popular song, not many like him left today
I agree with every word. Matt had a golden voice
This is my favourite song and movie. Matt Monroe is greatly appreciated, Liliane Chen from Vancouver.
Asian chicks love them some white dudes!
What a voice!
Beautiful music and a beautiful voice - gifts from God
I love this song so much.
Really
Very good song,
I Love it.
Thank you for Sharing.
Best Bond song at its finest!
Absolutely brilliant!
It's quite a long.... long.... time, since Grade school, that my father is singing this song and other MM's classics, I can''t help but smile and remembered my tatay- who is a fan and an amateur singer too (like me) . Miss my tatay... and remembered one of his favorite songs.
👍👍
This is my all-time favourite Bond song, and I still like it and well performed with lyrics by Lionel Bart and music by John Barry.
Matt is the greatest!
Meu tema favorito da série James Bond e interpretado por Matt Monro! Simplesmente magnifico!
Unforgettable tune right here.
Just brilliant and my favorite Bond song.
Good song lyrics & melody, with Matt Monro's mellow, unrushed, interpretation. As good as the best of Sinatra..
One time, when I tuned in to the radio on the middle of a Matt Munro song, for a quick minute I thought it was Sinatra. There's at least a general similarity.
@@basilmarasco1975 Much better than Sinatra.
@@basilmarasco1975 I wear two hearing aids and there's no way I could confuse Matt with Frank as Matt is a lot more mellow and unrushed when singing, I'm sorry HJD but I took your words but you described the difference between them beautifully, I think Matt was definitely the best and that's not just Frank that's ANY male singer. Sorry.
@@normancurragh768 . I would consider Nat King Cole as the greatest male singer of all-time, but I would definitely put Matt Monro as a very, very close second! Monro's magnificent rendition of "From Russia With Love" is definitely in the top 5 greatest Bond film songs along with (in no particular order), Chrissie Hynde's, "If There Was A Man", Shirley Bassey's, "Diamonds Are Forever", "Nancy Sinatra's " You Only Live Twice", and Paul McCartney's "Live and Let Die". Second five would include, Bassey's "Where Are You?"(Main Title Theme from Moonraker), Carly Simon's "Nobody Does It Better" (from "The Spy Who Loved Me"), Rita Coolidge's "All Time High"- a hugely underrated and underappreciated song (from "Octopussy") ,Tom Jones' "Thunderball" from the film of the same title, and Sheena Easton's "For Your Eyes Only" from the film of the same title.
Epic theme song.
My parents had the original vinyl in the house and used to play this song, from time to time. To hear it now, so many years later, is amazing. So many memories…
A timeless piece. I've been listening this for twenty years!
Masterpiece... Thick and deep. Reminds of some good old Bond movies.
Matt was thee Man...jesus, I could hear that on loop for days....
This is music.
He sang with a relaxed mouth, no pre-tension in the cheeks, jaw or brow. Rocked back slightly to lift his chin and clear the air passage. Not tall so he could tilt his chin up without singing "over" his audience. Despite having golden vocal cords and deep lungs he still sought to maximise his quality, and did so the traditional way. A crooner by result but with a belter's approach. But then, every opera singer too is both crooner and belter.
Between this and YOLT, for me the best Bond theme songs for sure
Love this song! I was reminded of it recently when re-watching the James Bond movie of the same name. What a talented vocalist -- gone way too soon!
Patbabygirl, it mystifies me why the best Bond score wasn't included in the film . The great Matt Monroe was dissed big-time. Your thoughts?
