    If you are attempting this swap the links are in the description but I will post here as well. Currently as of 4/24/23 small engines has this engine going for $450 and brandnewengines has it for $600. I dont know how long the $450 price will last as everything has gone up in price. Any amazon links are affiliate links, but the engine links I do not make money on - at all - I dont have an agreement with these people to send you to their website. I am just giving you a resource for you to use so you dont have to search for it.
    If you prefer to search yourself the specification for this engine is: Kohler CV224-3002 Command PRO 11.0 TP 224cc Toro Timemaster 25mm x 3-5/32" w/ Oil Filter - throw that in a google search and you will see tons of websites selling it.

    Did mine today, thanks for the videos...FYI, You can remove the black spring that is holding the transmission belt and make it much easier for yourself rather than using the 2x4 block method and wrestling with that transmission/belt combo. Just grab on tight to the black spring with a pair a pliers, pull it out of the holder, and voila! No more transmission blocking/belt to deal with, just put it back together in reverse when ready.

      Thanks for watching, I think that's a good option. This spring season I've noticed my grass is literally healthier because the cut is much neater and more consistent. It has a better vaccum and it leaves no stragglers. Even the grass matted down from the wheel paths are pulled up. I have struggled for many years with that underpowered Briggs and I don't think ppl realize what a peace of junk it really is. For the money Toro really should just give the cv224 out of the box.

    very interesting! The weak point of the original Timemaster is that the grass sticks and blocks the mower deck...and the reputation of not good for tall grass. Did you observe a difference now? Is your machine able to work well with tall grass and in the collection mode in the basket?

    • @atg4469
      @atg4469  Рік тому

      Yes, partially the deck clogs because of the shallowness of the deck but also the airflow pattern. It can be mitigated to a degree by using slip plate graphite coating and/or lawnmower spray lubricant which I believe is silicone. Some people use Teflon or ceramic coating. I typically mitigate the clogging by raising the deck to the highest setting and using side discharge, then going back over in the same setting and mulching. Then I would go to the next setting down and sidr discharge and go down incrimentally with side discharge taking off bit by bit. I never clog like that. But if I have to mulch I would make sure the grass isn't wet or ensure I have a deck coating. Now since the geometry of the deck hasn't changed theoretically if is the same risk of clogging. That being said I noticed on the Briggs engine that mulching DRY grass would bog down. In this video I showed that I mulched overgrown damp to wet grass and there was no bogging - I did not follow my typical pattern of raising the deck with side discharge and mowing, I just set it to c which is 3.25 inches and went straight to mulching and the machine never boggs down. I do have slip plate graphite coating on the bottom of the deck here but in my honest opinion I like gumout deck coating better. The slip plate doesn't work well in my opinion. I also wash out my deck after each cutting (total cutting of the entire lawn, not each pass).
      Hope I gave some insight. Also yes it works well with the bagging as well.

    Thank you. I have a little less than 1/2acre to cut on my property but my side yard is a slight incline (5~10* maybe) and the Briggs is definitely underpowered. It blew the oil seal a month after warranty ran out (right on queue). Replaced it but after a year later, the engine is running very rough. After watching your video, I'm not even going to attempt to diagnose and repair it. I ordered the Kohler today (it's still $450).
    A question... what did you end up doing with the kill stitch? I have electric start and I'm thinking I just remove it altogether (never worked all that well on the Briggs anyway) and just use the throttle/chock lever.

    • @atg4469
      @atg4469  Рік тому +1

      It is heavier due to the construction but it's not that much heavier to be honest. It's not more difficult to turn at all. If anything the weight distribution feels a bit better. It's more balanced when tipping for oil change, it's more balanced when cleaning out the deck. It's more balanced when I have to lift it up slightly to turn. The weight is neglible honestly but I can describe it as being better balanced on the deck itself. The lawn mower feels "made in America" if you catch my drift. It doesn't feel flimsy anymore.

    • @atg4469
      @atg4469  Рік тому

      When looking from underneath the mower there are two belts. The blade belt and the transmission belt. The belts are round so there are two sides. If you are trying to remove the transmission belt squeeze both sides together to make them touch each other. Then using a piece of wood behind the transmission leverage the transmission by pushing it forward then there should be more slack in the belt you just pinched together and it should come off. The blade belt should be slack and have no tension because you have to use a blade clutch to engage it so it should be loose by default. If my explanation makes sense please let me know, if not I will make a video

      This was made for owners of the machine who want to do something without breaking the bank. The process is actually extremely simple. "all of this" is literally three bolts on the bottom of the deck. It's really not that big of a deal.
      Lastly this mower isn't all that bad, there are some advantages of doing this. Number 1 it's cheaper to do this than buy a new mower. Ferris 15, Turf master, and scag 30 are all WAY MORE expensive than swapping out to the motor those machines use. WHY SPEND 1500, when you could spend 500? This is actually a way of having a good machine but spending less money. Number 2, putting this mower on the machine while keeping the other good aspects of the time master is beneficial. You maintain the personal pace, lightweight, easy to maneuver, 30 inch cutting deck machine and make it more capable.
      I understand your sentiment, appreciate you watching the vid, but understand there is a market for everyone

      @@atg4469 I own this mower. I wouldnt' dare put another engine on it and have over $2,000+ grand invested in it. Just buy the commercial version.

    Did you ever hear of the thirds rule in cutting grass?..you never cut more than a 3rd of the length of the grass...if you're deck height was at 3 1/4 there's NO WAY that grass was 8 inches.

      The rule of thirds doesnt prove or disprove the height. It's the rule for cutting healthy grass. My mower was down for weeks and it was not cut. Out of the 1000s of views this video has, this is the first comment claiming the grass wasn't what I said it was. It's clear in the vid that the grass is extremely long. 8 inch grass isn't 16 inch grass that went to seed lol.
      Either way, I agree with the rule of thirds, it was a torture test and I said that in the video
