    Creative Grids rulers are my favorite as well. I use my 2 1/2 x 12 1/2 often. If you scan the QR code on the ruler it will take you to a related You Tube video.

    I use quilters select rulers and like the all over non slip surface on the back. No matter which way I place the ruler I don't have to keep changing the direction to see the numbers I need.

    I like the rulers from Missouri Star. A lot of them are specially made for using with precuts. I do have a few of the Creative Grid rulers. I feel a good mix works for me.

    I replaced most of my rulers with the Creative Grids rulers. It took me a long time to make that decision because of the cost, but to me they are so worth it.

    Thank you for the video. The Creative Grids rulers are not ideal for left handed people. No matter which way you turn them the numbers are either upside down, in reverse order, or you’re having to measure from the half-inch side. I prefer Quilters Select. They have a gripping back side, The lines are very fine and precise, and there is easy to read numbering for both right and left handed people on all sides.

    Thanks again Erica for your helpful information. I have the same go to rulers as yours. The other set I have is the Creative Grids set of squares 2.5 - 6.5 that I purchased from Fat Quarter a number of months ago. I find that I use these a lot. Again as you mentioned the markings are very clear and helpful.

    New sewer here. I have made 1 quilt and I'd like to make another one and only have one that's 13"×6½ and a bigger one that's 12½×12½. I was trying to make or measure to make a tiling quilt pattern but need a pile of templates, to order it can be pricey especially since I just bout tones of fabric and a wide back I didn't want to spend more money. So lost on these rulers. Thank you for your video. I do have a scan and cut but first I need to figure out my sizes for templates.

    I started with several that I really can't adjust to. The lines are confusing to me. I love the ones from MSQC but sometimes the green doesn't work well with some of my fabrics. Watching one of the tutorials you have you used the 12.5 square, I picked that up and it really works for my brain. Thank you.

    My favourite rulers are the Quilters Select but they are hard to find here in Canada and I only have 3 sizes. Next is Creative Grids. Both have very easy to see lines but I find the Quilters Select are a little less slippy and seem a bit easier for me to use. Creative Grids are easier to get here and are definitely great too and I have a few that I use all the time.

    So I probably have half Creative Grids and half Quilters Select rulers. I love them both but I think Quilters Select wins by a nose over Creative Grids. I absolutely love the QS backing, it has the perfect amount of fabric grip for me.

    I love Creative Grids rulers! Started out with Omnigrid but found them hard to read and constantly slipping. Probably my inexperience…lol. One of my favorite CG rulers is the 4 1/2 inch by 6 1/2. Such a handy little size

      Karen Maddox,
      I just bought the omnigrid a few days ago…struggling with what you just mentioned…I am working on my first 9 patch quilt and it looks wonky. Tomorrow I will be using my seam ripper and cutting a new square as it is throwing off my pattern. I wish I could take the ruler back, but I already took it out of the package.

  • @emcbabe
    @emcbabe 2 роки тому

    Absolutely the best. I have 3 of your favorites and need one more. I have Omnigrid ones that I started with - very hard to see, slip all over. I got Slip Doctor's tape to use - it's cheap and works well. My three Ominigrids are 5 x 24, so no half measurement built in, 5 square, and the last is 3 by 12, no half measurements either. The 5 x 24 is good for cutting a strip to make charms (first I used a heavy pewter pitcher on the far end to stop the slippage.) So annoying. I would beach myself on top of the ruler to weigh it down. Also, if anyone has a rec or a good cutting mat, I would appreciate it. Mine is Olfa- no markings up and down the lines, and a big yellow box printed on the right corner, which I always head for since I'm right handed. Then I swear and move the fabric and ruler over again. All these little frustrations add up to a lot of time!. Erica - I really appreciate your addressing where to put fabric on a thick ruler line - I didn't know anyone else had had that problem to solve. I've always sewn clothes, but am beginning to quilt, and between 1/4 inch differing from sewing machine to sewing machine, mat to mat, ruler to ruler, and presser foot to presser foot - it's a nightmare!

    Hi Erica......I’m just starting to collect my tools to begin quilting and was wondering do you prewash your new fabric before quilting?

    • @erica_arndt
      @erica_arndt  3 роки тому +1

      Hi, I do not pre-wash my fabric ever unless I'm quilting with flannel. I will pre-wash flannel because it shrinks more than regular quilting cotton. And definitely do NOT pre-wash pre-cuts ever, they will fray like crazy! I do ALWAYS use color-catchers when wash my projects though to help prevent fabric bleed.
