Thank you! Yeah, NaNaNa dolls are not that popular and pretty niche. They don't have very much poseability and I don't see many collectors who have them. but I always gotta pick them up from goodwill for like a dollar if I see them!
Out of all the repaints I've watched this is the most interesting. I love nanana dolls and have so many that are thrifted and have messed up faces. I didn't know what to do to repair them. This worked so well. She's so cute abd her elf ears makes her unique from the original dolls. Like she is a fairy princess or something. She needs wings now.
You don't have to apologize for your hand! It's good to see the hands of artists, its good to see the form and method, and it reminds us that we too can create with these hands!
I much prefer the face you gave her!! It’s so cute and so much more fitting than the original. I have na-na-na dolls and now I wish they all had that face lol 😅
I have this doll!!! I got her in 2020 and she was a HUGE comfort doll for me and still is. She’s literally on my bedside right now, and I have her backpack still out and displayed in my room. I love her so much and wish MGA would make a Na Na Na Teens version of her with a full head of hair and more elaborate fashions. I loved this doll line soooo much
at 12:11 the choice of giving the doll a buzz-cut-looking hair style reminds me of a cartoon character with a similar hairstyle. I found it an interesting design choice.
As a short haired girl who would consider wigs over growing my hair long, I approve this doll! I've definitely met some very femme girls who got full buzz cuts, but I love the character flavor. I used printable iron on design paper forever ago, I wonder how that might fare with something like this, just doing whatever custom face you want digitally...? You'd probably have to transfer it flat and form it around the face, which sounds like a pain, but possible? It would sort of be like wrapping a texture on a 3D model lol. I'm so down with watching some LPS redesigns, they're very nostalgic to me! Ponies would be cute too, maybe you could make one to match your humanoid doll!
If you want to use stockings or tights for these, but worry about runs, get a pair of dance tights! You can cut them up, and not get runs, and typically thicker then normal tights.
The patchiness of the short hair as you were applying it reminded me of someone with trichotillomania! Would be a reasonable explanation for why she wears wigs ❤
If you do this again I think some printable fabric or fabric transfer might work better. She turned out cute tho! I had know idea these were vinyl under the fabric!
Someone else mentioned transfers might work, so that's a possibility! A little less hands on then painting tho. Maybe if I had some sort of interesting, complex body pattern that would be totally impractical to paint!
I wonder if applying spray glue to the face before applying the fabric would help the fabric conform to the molded facial contours? You could even sculpt more pronounced cheeks and noses with some foam clay first
Depending on the thickness of the fabric it might help but honestly the mold is *so* faint I'm not sure how much that would change things. a foam clay would for sure help.
2:44 I haven’t even seen this doll in person, but I can tell from working with printers the eyes dtf transfers, and the film is white. So they’re not like screen printing white on.
Idk if I made it clear enough (and I'm not sure what dtf means) but what I meant was, the fabric is white, and they print the skin tone + eyes on. Presumably they leave the whites of the eyes "blank" since that's the lightest part of the face!
She’s really cute! I wonder if iron on transfers would work for this? The light fabric ones are transparent so you can get closer to a screen printing look but for cheaper. Might have to touch up the whites.
I think that's a possibility for sure! Might be hard to make sure the placement on the fabric is correct because I think you'd have to iron it flat. But then, i havent used transfers before.
I'm surprised that this is your first faceup, it looks great! Some tips I'd give as a doll artist would be to use a thin cotton or jersey fabric instead of a nylon stocking, since it would be more durable, and use pastels to color match You could just trace out the shape of the original face onto your new fabric to get the right size and shape. I wanted to customize one of these but I chickened out. 😅There are "fabric mediums" that you mix with acrylic to make fabric paint, which would be less textured. Any size video is good! Don't feel pressured to make something longer because you feel like you have to.
I can't believe I didn't think of making a stencil... hoo boy thats silly of me. good tips though, I didn't know about fabric medium either although it makes sense that it would exist. I will say I'm not sure how to make sure pastel stick! so thats why i said maybe an alcohol dye of some sort, which would be a little bit more colorfast (although probably could fade over time depending so... imperfect)
she's so cute!!! i've been hoping to see someone customize a nanana, i haven't been brave enough myself lol i ended up finding one a year or two ago at the thrift store and she's been needing to be fixed up... maybe i can come up with something!
Do it! If the fabric face up doesn't work you can always just paint over the vinyl doll like I've seen some people do, but it's also nice that the fabric is easy to replace!
I think the run looks like a little scar on the doll, it gives her a story. Maybe it was just a scratch from her cat, Maybe she got it from a near death experience, Who knows? Maybe her name is Sunday Paws?
Hi, super silly question? Did you post about thrifting this doll on tumblr? I’ve seen this exact doll somewhere recently (I recognize the drawn on lipstick lol) and that is the only place I can think it might have been lol
not a silly question, I have a tumblr i think I linked in the bio, I post a lot about all my art projects/dolls way before the video. I also posted her in some of the new tumblr communities when I got her.
@@art-eroflore Ahh that makes sense then, I've been poking around in the Dollblr community since they made them public recently. She came out super cute by the way! (I commented before I had time to watch because of the 'omg I know her!' >w
She looks much better with her new face ! I didn't even know that there were dolls that are made from both plastic and fabric.

thank you!! I kinda ignored the pointy ears, next time I do one of these I should for sure make them a fairy or soimething!

Thanks for teaching. I learned how to make my plush doll.
I much prefer the face you gave her!! It’s so cute and so much more fitting than the original. I have na-na-na dolls and now I wish they all had that face lol 😅
I would love to see more of your smaller projects ❤ it is so fun to follow your progress and work
Thank you! thats very kind!
She's reeeeaallyy cute. Also, I would love to see some pony customs, especially with clothes!
TY! I hope to make some based off the 1980s ponywear and some custom stuff :3 hopefully

Omg this video is giving “oh no… that’s gore of my comfort character…” 😂😂😂😂 but I love how your face-up turned out!!!!
@@C.K.Productions Glad you like her, it's sweet you have such a connection to this doll
she looks AWESOME! i've always wondered what these dolls were like on the inside. awesome to know that they're customizable in some way!
ty! Yep they're real weird, someday I really want to peel the whole thing to see how detailed the doll under all the fabric is...

I wonder which one? But thanks! It stands out from the other nananas a lot, but I've gotten used to seeing her without the wig on.

good tip!
The short hair is a great idea! I bet you could make a similar "wig" with felt and sew it around the head too

awww headcanon accepted! I like having little backstories/facts about characters, it makes them more unique!

she turned out so cute! Painting on top of the fabric is so impressive I think I would've gotten frustrated and gave up. Amazing job!
Ty! Honestly was sort of less frustrating than typical painting because there are no doovers LOL just more stressful.
She's so cute I love her ❤
Wow i never even thought about a faceup on a nanan
It looks really cute! You did such a good job!
thank you v much!
I love how experimental you are! it always pays off so well❤️❤️❤️
thank you! this whole video was one big experiment lol

I made flocking by cutting up yarn once, never again 😐 lol
