This is easily the most under appreciated D&D live play group on UA-cam. I’m always surprised to see the relative view counts of Drakkenheim vs other live play content. Keep up the good work and the audience is bound to grow!
Underrated is a word thrown around quite casually these days. But this podcast is underrated. Way better than other d&d live play i have watched. Keep grinding.
Hats off to Monty that encounter was amazing in so many ways. I've loved his DMing, but after seeing that (and I was particularly impressed by the gnoll cleric a little while ago too) I have even more respect for him as a storyteller and a creative mind.
Pluto Jackson has been kicking so much ass. He’s like some Adonis Ancient Greek body god Spartan warrior. He literally bleeds heroism; if he wanted, he’s the kind of hero that could have a harem, but he’s far too classy for that.
Slashes a construct in half, impales Gemma with javelin, walks off a bridge and cleaves another construct in half, stands up and slices a ghoul in half, all in 12 seconds.
As a player from Argentina. I was surprised by two things: No matter the country, the D&D tables are the same hehehe And a great detail to use Borges as an entity that watch over the libraries :) another example of the Monty`s cultural level!!!
I'm starting to believe Matthew Mercer is a fan of Dungeons of Drakkenheim. His new one shot Adventures of Tarriens Brigade had a Purplish meteor crash into an area, and all the creatures who had the stone embedded in them changed and became evil with unusual powers. Some were undead. The stone kept changing the land and all I could think of was this a Crossover!!! Please have my favorite trio come out and say "I am Sebastian Crow and this is the Draconforce, and we are here to help you adventures!"
The imaginative epic combat at the Nexus is fantastic! Baby magma elementals, bleeding buckets (but not in the logical way), etc is amazing. This is why I’ve fallen down the D&D rabbit hole!
ME, DURING EPISODE 39: "This is such a cool library. It reminds me of 'The library of Babel', one of my favourite short stories ever". ME, DURING EPISODE 40: "Oh my gods, Monty actually referenced Borges as an entity that watches over libraries!". I love this campaign!!
I really like that we get to see more of the mystery being unraveled and revealed as we progress through the adventure. It's a mark of GM's craft to manage this while players determine their own course through the campaign - sure, there are always certain margins, but still, Monty has to weave it all so they get more information on the overall story (so the delirium thing is planar in nature? A demiplane as a comet? Actually makes sense... And the planar things already got teased nicely from the start before being introduced now) while they keep on adventuring down their chosen path. Now this got me thinking the date of the Clocktower stopping could've been when the first experiments to get / to use delirium were made. Perhaps a planar breach that severed things... perhaps that was what fried the modron captain, or perhaps he was even used as an access key. Really nice to see cool high-grade mages pop up and assist - at last, the mage guild power can be manifested. Hope Monty will have them make a real impact on how things go in the city in later episodes. Also really loved seeing the staff jury-rig repaired essentially due to decency - I was privately not looking forward to dealing with yet another devious dealmaker power, so I was glad when it turned out fakeout-like. Good timing there, Monty, you caught yourself well and in time, avoided falling into a rut. And now the party will no longer have to deal with everything in the tower - and they have a nice excuse for some specific mission they may be given while the head honcho mages deal with even more massive tasks like fixing the thing and getting it running again. Also Kyle is best hand, very glad to see our favourite thumbs-up of power immortalized (undeadized?) in-game. Great catch there, Jill, I actually clapped at that (thankfully not having anyone around to weird out at the time).
New viewer and dnd newbie here! I'm absolutely blown away by how good you guys are!! Def better than the other dnd live plays out there. Been binging the series for the past few weeks and I'm in love! Monty is a wonderful dm, and not to mention how good Joe, Jill, and Kelly are as players! I was even inspired to make a shadow sorcerer of my own! Keep doin what y'all do, Dungeons of Drakkenheim is awesome!
Veo: "Oscar was pretty powerful in the end. He wasn't a pushover. Probably should have taken care of him, you know, when we should have at the beginning." Eldrick to himself listening telepathically: "Well no s***!!"
Recently discovered Dungeon Dudes and have been binge watching all there stuff. I love this show. Everyone in it exemplifies what it means to be a good player and GM. Love Monty’s Dresden references, “Kemmler, Master of Necromancy.” Just great.
Compliments!: I want to send a personal thank you to you, and the team. Your the guys that paved the road for me to become a DM, as well as play a tabaxi gloom stalker. Big thanks for being an inspiration to us all, and reminding us how much fun D&D can be. Best D&D campaign on UA-cam bar none.
Another totally awesome episode. Monty you really have built a huge world and Jill, Joe and Kelly do a fantastic job exploring it. Matt Mercer said at their first Gencon live show that live play D&D was a new way to tell a story and you guys are REALLY nailing that. I look forward every week to seeing how the story moves forward. There is so much lore in Drakkenheim that I really hope Monty, who is obviously a skilled writer, considers a novel set there. That would be cool. Keep up the great work guys! Can't wait to see where the story goes next.
No Monty. From the bottom of my heart, three years later, thank you. And Kelly, and Joe and Jill. This is a phenomenal campaign and I still have two more seasons to catch up on. I'm here for it. You might not read this late response, but I'm just glad to be a small part of what makes this table so fun and entertaining. Even if my contribution is just time. Thank you for all of your efforts, and thank you for making magic as a group of friends around a table, rolling dice. Yes, yes, yes.
watching this 4 years after the release, for now the mage tower exploration has been my favorite part of the show, the mix of fun, action and lore is amazing.
A giant chunk of stuff popping out of nowhere in space? My god that gets my nerdy sense tingling. I love the implications of that and the cosmological aspect added to the story. Mad respect for story depth, mate
I have really enjoyed everything so far. Thanks for sharing. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little bit annoyed that Sebastian didn't tell Eldric that the Archmage's Spirit was the reason he was able to reset the nexus and that his friends helped him concentrate on controlling the staff. Monty, you are extremely talented and very good at being a dungeon master. Thank you guys(player characters) for being so into the game. I appreciate all of you.
Thank y'all for making all of these videos for us! I for one get great joy out of them! I like to mute Skyrim while I'm playing, and listen to in the back ground, or watch. Thank all of you very much!!!🎊👍🎉 Just for info on audience age idea, I'm 19yrs. old/ young 😄👍
As a lover of Wizards, Mage Towers, and magical happenings, this was so entertaining. Another phenomenal episode from the mind of Monty Martin and the play at the table!
Hey, an argentinian here. I see with you did with the staff of Borges in a gigantic library. I was amazed by that easter egg. Great episode as usual! I'm still catching up.
I like to imagine that Sebastian's "Tiny Hut" actually looks like a Wendy House version of the Addam's Family Mansion made from shadow. It is nice to see Oscar lending a helping hand, or two. That battle in the Nexus was brutal.
Been catching up with these in the recent month and it's a blast. I'm usually not that big of a fan of live plays, since a lot of them feel a little too produced for my personal taste, but this one really has that "friends hanging out and playing"-feel that I love about the game. All that while still having one of the most amazing GM performances I've ever seen.
I do enjoy Dungeon Dudes content. However, I only recently started watching Dungeons of Drakkenheim. I wasn't sure about it at first but I've binged to this point in a very short time. Good job handling a party w/out a dedicated healer. So many potions!
The Tower encounter... intense and loony all at the same time. Good job to everyone, but namely Pluto, who spent the entire encounter keeping most of the enemies at bay. Congratulations. The Tower has been reclaimed. One step closer to victory.
What a dramatic, funny, creative episode! Congratulations on reaching 100K subscribers - it's well earned. You guys have been instrumental to my understanding and appreciation of the game in all its variety and richness.
Finally caught up! Congratulations on reaching 100k subscribers, to say it’s well deserved is the understatement of the year. Keep it up dudes!I can’t wait to see you next time... IN THE DUNGEON!
Amazing episode as always! And congrats on 100k! And minor spoilers: But just for next time, Sebastian had a point of exhaustion that would have made all the checks at disadvantage to control the nexus! It was in my opinion one of the best episodes still and keep up the good work!
Yeah, I noticed that after. I really wish that when you clicked exhaustion in D&D beyond, it put a big old reminder somewhere showing you it’s effects. I tend to forget what isn’t obviously in front of me when I’m playing, too busy looking over what is on my sheet to go digging for what I forgot about. Either way, the episode was cool! - Kelly
@@DungeonDudes The power of Desperation channeling through Sebastian overtook the exhaustion level... (I forgot about it myself with all the chaos going on, shhhhh)
I know I'm late to the party 🥳 but I love watching yall play. You have so much fun and don't get too muddled in trying the perfect plan every time. Plus im always learning new things to try and ways to play.
Jill, Kelly and Joe, Kyle, Clayton and the rest not forgetting Monty who makes the best DM ever! Thank you so much, this story has drawn me back into playing DnD from a 4 year gap, It's re-opened my eyes to another life and if I knew back then I would of never stopped playing. Once I catch up fully be another thing to look forward to in the week, sadly no Dwarves yet but always hope that things will get better? :) hahaha... Well done guys x
So cool to hear anything related to Mechanus, I've been interested about it for a long time! And even more elementals, they are my absolute favorite! What a treat!
2:36:44 Kemmler, Master of Necromancy! I own a Bretonnian Mousillon army bent on reconquering the Dukedom and restore it back to its proper glory, so the reference to Warhammer Fantasy wasn't lost on me!
I adore this so much and am so appreciating a binge of all of it - but man it's hard to look past how they keep ignoring the fact that the Amethyst Academy has (at this point) not actually shown any more flexibility than the Silver Order - and it'll be kind of surprising if they're into any of these rebuilding plans. xD LOVE this story. Beautiful. Masterful!
They agreed to cooperate with the other factions to eliminate the threat posed by the Queen of Thieves. They also agreed to fulfill their obligation to Westemar by helping identify and locate an heir, but only once their tower and place in the city were restored. They never actually agreed to restoring Drakkenheim as a living city. Quite to the contrary, they stated that it would be many years before such a thing could even be considered. They were surprisingly transparent about their real goals -- to reacquire their Tower and the staff of the Archmage of Drakkenheim, and to quarantine the city.
It was mentioned in an earlier session that healing potions could be taken without risk with another potion, as long as they were taken at least a minute apart from each other.
I never seen a live play before but I really enjoy the game they are playing. I played D an D since 1979 and I still love the game. Great job with the live stream.
I knew it! The mages knew the meteor would hit! Now to prove my follow-up theory about how the mages actually drew the meteor here to boost their magic, maybe repeating a past event when in ancient times another meteor struck that brought magic in itself to this world.
This show is great! It shows real gameplay and how most of my home games are (or I aspire to). But for the last two or three episodes I have a question about Sebastian - what bag of holding? Hasn't the Queen of Thieves take it as a... souvenir?
Am now only 5 episodes away from catching up. Read through the comments (don't mind the spoilers to much) and saw where you think this might end around the end of the year. Please tell us that you have another campaign going after this one ends, love the setting and there is so much more you can do in Drakkenheim. Take a break if you need to, you've certainly earned it, bring in new characters if you must but please continue to have adventures in your incredibly deep and complex world.
Fifteen minutes in when they start talking about channeling the nexis and I'm like "I bet a bottled elemental could channel a ton of arcane energy before popping."

Agreed! Love these guys! :-)
100% agree! Quality content. How it's not more popular is beyond me.
They need to be shouted-out by someone who's already "big". They really deserve a lot more attention.
By far. Ive show them to three othets already
I love how excited Joe gets about Jill’s damage rolls, real team player
Underrated is a word thrown around quite casually these days. But this podcast is underrated. Way better than other d&d live play i have watched. Keep grinding.
I put this above critical role
Believe it or not, I Kickstarted their book because of Dungeon Dudes.

Was thinking something similar. He’s really come into his own and has just been awesome to watch!
He is very good at positioning. He makes Pluto do the most amazing things. Pluto Jackson is accomplishing feats like a legendary King of Old. Love it.
Slashes a construct in half, impales Gemma with javelin, walks off a bridge and cleaves another construct in half, stands up and slices a ghoul in half, all in 12 seconds.

Screenshot this and save it for later... Don't mind me. Just saving a great phrase for this coming Tuesday. Credit to you of course.
Monty's had a few good variations on "bloodied" so far.
Yeah. Muddied is my personal favorite.

“Guys, they’re made of buckets. What are they weak to?”
“Holes?”
Classic. Thanks.
Well done Monty for combining a Kurgesagt reference with Pratchett.
Edit - for anyone who doesn't get it, the exploding fractal elephants.
"You have successfully recaptured the tower of the Amethyst Academy." Wow, so much has happened since episode one!
Mechanus and Pandemonium ripping into the Material Plane was a really awesome description, holy poop.
I am fairly sure my neighbors heard my surge of laughter from Veo's, "I'm hearing tiny BBQ".
