Its 2023. I'm slowly listening through this series. Gotta tell you, this episode was a hard one to stomach. Its a really well-played tale of a lot of hurt and heavy emotions.
This has been my favorite episode of this campaign to date, and that's saying something. Slaying monsters is fun, but conflict between factions and competent combatants is the best.
the politicians turned into trolls LOL its amazing how the tension keeps rising episode after episode. the party never has a chance to catch their breath while the plot becomes more and more complex. master tier storytelling!
@@ShadowsOfEssence Foolish. Delerium will destroy the world sooner or later. The Silver Order is the only faction that seems to be doing something about this.
No, they dishonored everything the Knight commander lived by. Their decision to not accept the traditions of Single Combat by attacking the victor was nauseating.
No, pride is a sin, these paladins are having extreme pride by not honoring the pact of the duel between Pluto and the knight commander. Additional sin was also created the moment when the griffons were the first to draw blood. Morally I don’t think that Pluto was at fault in any part of it. Pluto just doesn’t talk correctly around his sword, if Pluto would had said his words better, the paladins would clearly be in the wrong. The paladins also are the ones denying the “truth” of the rightful heirs of the throne. Caspia (spelling) has a clear claim to the throne.
@@Streetconefilm I agree Greed is also a thin and they're only in this country in the first place because their world leader wants to take it over, otherwise they have literally no reason to be here at all and no reason to interfere with the politics that are happening because it has nothing to do with their country in the slightest I like Nigel and I kind of liked Theodore even if I kind of wanted to backhand him across a table, but other than them they're all just as corrupt as the followers of the following fire NBA entire silver order is definitely one of the bad guys here
Nah the paladins are very obviously lawful stupid. They see zero nuance and their plan is burn it all, there is zero compromise in them. The AA for all their faults (and there are many) will make a deal. They're also invading a sovereign nation. Very much the baddies and wish the players had hammered that point into them more
You know I think there was a legitimate argument for both the paladins and the academy. The paladins wanted to burn down the city but once cleansed the city could have been rebuilt. The mages want to harness the delirium and wait to reinhabit the city later. It was an interesting choice
No, the Academy doesn't want the city to be rebuilt. They just want to go on harvesting Delerium forever... which, for numerous reasons, is a plan with disastrous long-term consequences.
Monty is such master* at building characters, I felt every word the Night Commander said, and it pained me to no end that they had to fight him. It's tragic, I'm heartbroken for a fantasy US southern Paladin 🗡💔 *see what I did there? ah? ah?
Is it just me or did they never set the rules for the duel? If Pluto wins... what does he get? Not to die? The medallion? He should have asked for 3 griffins. This is a duel scam !
I hope that Veo's nice new cloak is fire proof. Jill seems to have so much fun with her utility spells. City Hall is full of Trolls? Satire in Drakkenheim?
My burning question... Can you break the heart of a sword? I know mine sure took a beating. I hope something good can come of it... though I fear Pluto was on to something when he wondered how the other factions would react after they "murdered the paladins." Not only did the Night Commander beg Pluto to make the trade, but Ignasius also made it pretty clear that this fight was wrong...at least for him/it...which takes me back to my question... Anyways, you guys ARE THE BEST, I LOVE YOU ALL, and can't wait for the next episode! PS, it also appears that you still have a team name problem...
The Paladins would never have had seen eye to eye with their Ideals and the Hierarchy would never call off the the war unless they couldve mustered a way stronger army so its better that they are gone now. Also screw the sword.
@@erysdahl Pluto should have demanded the duel be for ownership of Ignatius AND the badge AND all of you tin-can hillbillies leave Drakkenheim forever... but this session was EPIC. Easily my fav so far.
Would agree if it wasn't for the fact that the paladin still kind of want to burn down drakkenheim to the ground Also pretty ironic that the paladins hate magic users and yet their class itself is basically half castor They are hypocrites and arrogant shiny buttplates! Don't forget they also want to let the queen die, which I know this is a fantasy setting but that kind of think it's me like magical ableism vibes You should never let a group composed entirely of religious people be a political world leader, ever They aren't even from westimar, they're only here because they're being bossed around by somebody else who wants to take over an empire possibly it illegally I kind of feel bad for the sword though, I nearly lost it when it's kind of revealed that it was religious just like they were. I mean it probably should have been obvious because it was a magic sword full fire in a cathedral that worships fire itself but somehow I just would have thought that it just like honesty and wasn't following the whole sacred fire coat thing. The duality here would have been more interesting it's literally any of the paladins had actually believe that maybe the heroes had a point, we could have seen some of that classic religious inner tension of what the book actually says versus what the church leaders are telling you to do. Right now we just have the sacred fire versus the following fire and I don't think that's the same. Well I'm sorry I did not mean for this to turn into a rent I only meant to write the first line and it's sort of all kind of spilled out from there. 2:47:15 2:47:15 2:47:15 2:47:15 2:47:15
I can't help thinking that Drakkenforce just killed the good guys. I've always hated their decision to side with the Amethyst Academy over the Silver Order, and this episode broke my heart. I suppose that's just great DMing from Monty in creating such nuanced factions. Well done.
I totally agree. Many many episodes ago Sebastian asked Joe "Are we the bad guys?"... I think today's episode answers that question more definitively than any episode before this one!
In my opinion there isn’t bad and good in this campaign... after all the Paladins work to concur this city but also to get rid of delirium (is delirium even a bad thing?) What about the point of the amethyst academy that is helping magic touched people and tries to get rid of evil magic users? (Like Sebastian) What about the point that the silver order knows nothing about how to deal with arcane magic and the queen of thieves? In addition the silver order wants to burn the city to the ground and the rat prince! (And probably won’t give any property back to their owners) Also they refused the offer of working with the amethyst academy and the hooded lanterns (even the academy was ok with that alliance) also they want to kill the queen and veo vowed to protect her (and why is the question, is it because she’s “evil” or to get influence over the city) But the Paladins were the friends of the players no? And the academy is very selfish... But that’s just the general situation, what about the point that Pluto wanted to spare Theodore, but Theodore refused, But Pluto could have spared him and hope that Theodore won’t kill him without mercy... the party defended themselves after all... In conclusion that is the sign of a great DM and an immersive and beautiful story... That moment was heart breaking for me too but the players made their choice and we get to see how it will end...
I have to agree with Ariel. We have to look at all of these organizations with shades of Grey. Which is a mark of the DM'ing in this campaign. We know that the Silver Order were always in essence a conquering force and as soon as things didn't go their way orders were already made and sent out declaring anything and everything they could evil in their eyes simply because they weren't sided with. It really does a good job of illustrating the fact that Paladin's really are no longer the Lawful Good Knights of old editions that could only be seen as bastions of Holiness. Most of the Paladins in the Silver Order in fact have come off far more lawful than good in temperament. Caring more about order and following rules and chains of command rather than any kind of true greater good or redeeming anything. Certain ones actually seem rather merciless as well. Also keep in mind that there is a Rogue faction in the city that actually takes their same core beliefs and re-interprets them in ways that really illustrates the Silver Order's tenants were never all good in nature. Really the more we've learned in little tidbits and behaviors of different characters. It's shown us quite a bit that the factions are mostly a situation of picking what kind of enemies they wanted to have to face and what kind of evils they wanted to be accepting of. And I've had a feeling early on that with their style there was always a small chance that certain groups might turn against them even if they did decide to side with them. Unfortunately the way the Silver Order is I think they are one of those groups.
Nah the Paladins and the Hierarchy wouldve never seen eye to eye with them and at this point they wouldnt have called off the war with them unless they let go of all their current ideals and motivations. They were never the good guys for Drakkenheim. Even if Theodore was a good friend and a likeable guy.
Good/Bad is all perspective and history is written by the victor. That said, they wanted to burn a city that their inhabitants actively wanted to salvage ignoring the leadership of the town because their imaginary flame told them so. That's extreme thinking and somewhat villainous. If the Catholic church decided most of Africa are heathens and needed purging would you consider them the good guys? This isn't much different.
Monty, you have set up some fantastic drama here. Regardless of who they chose to align with, the conflict this game has generated is fantastic. Also, well done with the voice acting. The other episodes with faction interactions were impressive, but this was spot on. Jupiter Jones in character could easily sell 10,000 prints of his book, "Challenge Your Inner Caspian"
A very satisfying episode! Sebastian's clutch wall of fire and perfectly dark one liner was the star of the episode for me. The pacing of the episode was great, it really shows that you all are working to improve your game/our show. Pluto's dual was great and it really felt like two honorable warriors fighting for duty despite the desire not to. It's a shame night commanders subordinates didn't choose life over revenge. Makes me wonder if that type of corruption is rampant in the silver flame.
I want to thank you guys for all of the hours of entertainment. I wish I could afford to have kept up with my patreon account. Once I get back on track I'll pick back up my monthly support.
The hardest thing these guys are going to have now, is remember all of the things they get from the academy that they can take advantage of. Monty's reward system from the academy, the hooded lanterns, the squads etc... In my estimation they can probably tackle challenges 6/7 levels above what they could before. Pluto with access to shield. Pluto and Sebastian with access to healing word. 10 more slots for Sebastian. Mana potions. Plus Pluto's armour/Ignatius/lightning javelin. Veo's armour/lanterns/access to flight and invisibility. Sebastian's staff of power etc. I get the feeling Monty is setting them up so he can just throw whatever he wants at them.... This is going to be fun.
Also I love the rings and the aqua delirium... Monty has set it up so they won't get bogged down needing to long rest, now they can hit it hard and take on protracted missions without slowing the pace (and it counteracts the haze stopping them from resting) This campaign is brilliantly crafted. Well done.
I don't believe that Drakkenforce was wrong, but that victory still didn't feel right. So tragic. What an amazing story. Thanks for streaming your game for us!
So just a few tips for would be DMs watching this. Potion of invulnerability halves all incidents of damage. So when being hit by a smite spell it halves the weapon damage, then halves the other smite damage type. Also Pluto totally didn’t double the damage dice on the critical that disarmed the Knight Commander 2d8+2d10+5 should have been way more than he did.
I'm actively cheering for the Paladins. Go Paladin!!! What, Monty you went so easy on them and didnt use holy smite at all. Invulnerability doesn't half radiant damage. Who really thought that Pluto wouldn't be beaten? I really don't like Veo in this episode. The three murder and lie and steal for their own benefit all the time. Monty great job. Got me invested but I don't like the moral hypocrisy of our would be heros.
Nah dude monty is a legendary tier DM and these players are total nerds not in the good way. Monty carries them hard. They are not that skilled at RP and immersion at all. A combat round is 6 seconds in real time and they are so dishonrable they couldnt go 6 seconds without interfering with shineannagans in an honor duel.
No one cares for honor these days Besides, the silver order soldiers didnt respect knight captain's choice to die in their place They instigated a fight and died So knight captain's wishes have been in vain That and they do not have any business in drakkenheim in the first place They have no right to just meddle with their affairs for the stupid sake of self righteousness and obnoxious zealot bs
@@shanemccausland958 Yeah, they interference in honor duels consistently drives me nuts as the PC's act like a bunch of 14 years olds in a Tiktok prank war and it seems far too easy for the PC's to not get caught when the duelists seconds would be watching them like hawks for interference. I get though that Monty doesn't use alignment and so all factions operate almost as chaotic neutral and then equivocate their actions. I think what does bother me though is the PC's seem to have a huge blind spot for their own dishonesty in nearly all their dealings with everyone throughout the campaign, yet act indignant when other sides don't act honorably. I think the PC's may actually be playing their characters as back-storied well, but the society they grew up in is just an absolute morally depraved mess of pure survival of the fittest. In some ways this makes me think of what it would be like growing up in Zhentil Keep in the Forgotten Realms, which was basically a chaotic evil society, or growing up in someplace like Thay in the Forgotten Realms. I think Drakkenheim/Westmar was likely a pretty corrupt state and didn't even make the pretense of being a just society prior to the meteor, but the heroes were too young to know what a freaking mess their society was that they are now trying to recreate. Ironically, the most "moral" person in this setting might be the Queen of Thieves. Really all the factions are just jackals preying on the carcass of the world, and maybe that is the point. No one has any really redeeming qualities even the PC's.
Monty actually played it pretty by the rules, potions of invulnerability do halve all damage (at least in 5e) and the 5e equivalent of holy smite (which I think is from 3.5?) is blinding smite which Monty used a couple times as well. That said it would've been really cool if Theodore Marshall had pulled out a destructive wave
I have A LOT of questions about this episode! What alignment is Pluto? I am assuming that the Knight Commander was a Lawful Good Paladin & his troops were as well. A duel would have permitted him & Pluto to fight, even to the death. That being said, he spoke openly about him fighting instead of his men. A Paladin unit would have seen his words as an order not to fight. Unless they were attacked they would as Lawful knights have more likely swore a death oath and left. Is the Order of the Flame a Lawful Neutral organization?
@@DungeonDudes then it doesn't make sense for Ignacious to act that way... well, other than the fact that Pluto is weak willed on his overpowering the intelligent weapon.
Spoilers: Veo watches Pluto enter an entirely avoidable match to the death over Caspian "honor." A few moments after congratulating Pluto on the win, tells Jupiter that he has something to learn about honor when he expects Pluto to make THE EXACT SAME CHOICE, again. Much more "honorable" to burn the child to death in her eyes, obviously. God, I hope someone puts Sebastian and Veo in their place.
Completely disagree with the comments painting the trio as villains or monsters while only seeing the Silver Order as the good guys. I can see their point about removing the city and starting over somewhere new. Except, it isn't their choice to make. Drakkenheim isn't there home or even part of their lands. They were asked to leave and are now invaders which in and of itself is an act of war without even mentioning the letter being sent out. As far as the sword goes, it doesn't matter if they handed over the sword or not. The Silver Order wasn't just going to turn around and leave the city. You'd just be handing them another weapon to use against you as you try and stop them from destroying your home.
"Destroying your home?" That's a very questionable interpretation. Drakkenheim IS destroyed, sir. The *only* factions who aren't attempting to profit off its rotting corpse are the Silver Order and perhaps The Hooded Lanterns. The "city" is dead. In truth, there is no city; it's a ruined, magical Chernobyl that has polluted everything around it. Ok, so the Silver Order is from Elyria. So what? In fact, shame on those who remembered Drakkenheim in its glory and instead chose their own personal enrichment over maybe, POSSIBLY reclaiming the city one day, or at least eliminating the delerium to the point that the environment was no longer being contaminated. I say again: The Silver Order was Westemar's ONLY meaningful chance to set things right. And now? Well I guess the members of Drakkenforce and everyone else will just have to sleep in the bed that they made. Drakkenheim will continue to pollute the land and indeed the world to an unknown conclusion, all while the vile and corrupt leaders of the very factions that Drakkenforce sided with grow rich beyond reason.
@@Beau74 my guy there won't *be* a westermar because the knights are there on an order of holy conquest, and with the right of succession to a new heir outright and arbitrarily denied by the hierarch regardless of there being a valid heir. The Silver Order are there as invaders, it's a simple fact. And while the Academy is certainly not trustworthy, the Silver Order were the only ones who were full on "my way or the highway" and in some one else's house no less. Whats more I do agree that the whole argument that delirium is only corruption/evil magic is outright willfully ignorant. It should be studied, and with understanding it can be used to help, or even prevent another Drakkenheim. We're outright told earlier this isn't the first time that this has happened. Better to understand what it is and prepare for it than destroy it (if it even can be) and remain ignorant. While I don't always agree with the PCs here and how fast and loose they play with their morals, I can't fault them for wanting to protect and restore their home from dogmatic invaders.
@@remigusker6024But now the characters have learned that delirium really is evil, and really does need to be destroyed. Interesting how the plot twisted over 3 years
I love this argument after the duel. Monty, I really salute how well your NPCs are thought out. A group of grieving paladins are going to be hard to "reason" with... A logical argument will be hard to make. And a threat is even harder. From a mechanical standpoint, their "mental stat" is charisma. They arent smart or wise, they are passionate.
2:24:00 Spoiler . . . . . . Shouldn't the riders have been attached by a harness? I thought that was a thing in the assault against the gate a while back
He was using them for Riposte and Shield mostly. I agree it would have been a better idea though, even if it just meant he got to use different maneuvers for those attacks.
This is the problem with the action economy at high level. You often have several choices for your reaction and bonus actions. Which makes it more fun, as you need to think about what you are doing.
@@CallenExile Yeah but there was one moment that he did not have any resource left and just took the smites like a champ he is without using the mage slayer reaction to just smack back.
I love what the cast did (that duel was EPIC) but personally I would have sided with the Paladins. Seems like the Hooded Lanterns could have been convinced to work with them, after all they had fought massive battles side by side. The Academy is just too shifty and naturally selfish, whereas the Paladins though dogmatic are at least honest and want to help other people. They're right that the city is corrupted and the Academy is only interested in profiteering, they have healers and the power of the church. They also said they WOULD respect the lineage of the Royal Family (before Drakkenforce cast them aside). Drakkenheim is a dead city, cleansing it and rebuilding makes way more sense than creating a magic stone mine with a few pockets of civilization. Especially with what is happening in season 2, seems like the Paladins would have been the better choice for the world long-term if not the best for Drakkenheim in the short-term.
Now that I think about it. Veo was the perfect candidate for the Lord commander position. If her friends betray her and put their own desires (and their factions desires) above restoring Drakenheim and installing the rightful heir, she would murder them without a second thought and then eat them. She is actually the perfect Lord commander. Noice.
When Kelly realized he said the wrong name and corrected himself all my anxiety disappeared and my faith in the world was restored. Not really, I just felt it when he said the wrong name and was happy when he fixed it. As a DM it's nice when the players remember the names. Or correct themselves. Awesome episode.
Maybe a future Quest. Episode 41. 47:00. The magical pip to control ratlings. Episode 42. 32:40. Using the blood to scry and find the princes and princesses. I don't remember the episode number.... The 4 Turtles 🐢, The hero's Bow, The Dutchess,
It baffles me why the Silver order wouldn't honor the agreement the Knight Captain made. Their insistence on serial challenges seemed quite out of character. It seems like Pluto won an honorable duel and should have been allowed to leave in peace per the terms of the original challenge. But entertaining story none the less. I'm late to the party but I'm definitely hooked ❤️
Question on wall of fire as I am playing a light domain cleric and recently got this spell but thought it worked differently. When Sebastian cast it he immediately killed like all the Illyrians but my reading of the spell is that it creates a wall 1 foot thick by 60 ft long and “when the wall appears each creature in its area must make a dex save” for half damage of the 5d8. But it goes on to say that “one side of the wall, selected by you when you cast this spell, deals 5d8 fire to each each creature that ends its turn within 10 of that side” or “when it enters the wall for the first time on a turn or ends its turn there.” Basically my reading is that only those caught in the 1 ft by 60ft long, thin rectangle of the wall make the dex save and take immediate damage. Doesn’t everyone else get an opportunity to get away from the fire (and failing to do so they automatically take 5d8 and get no save)? A fireball or cone of cold probably would have accomplished the same thing so didn’t really change the outcome but wanted to make sure I understood the logistics of wall of fire. It also would have added a potentially cool RP moment where the silver order basically gets a choice to run into the fire or be given another opportunity to walk away.
Calling them murder hobos when they're consistently tried to be diplomatic with most of the factions (even if they've bungled it repeatedly with poor attempts at deception) seems fairly disingenuous to me. The problem here is that the Silver Order are dogmatic zealots.
However the sliver order does work to CONQUER this country and although the knight captain seemed like a good person, the heiarch is definitely motivated by politics (they are at least as bad as the academy). In addition the sliver order wanted to KILL queen Lenore and veo is sworn to protect her. And they want to burn this city to the ground- a city the hooded lanterns want to salvage and save what remains... However I don’t disagree with you, I also think the sliver order has a point, but both sides are “correct”...
What are you talking about? The knight captain in this scene leads an invading army and loots the city (the badge). His babbling about "being connected by the flame" is completely out of place.
awh :( rest in peace Knight commander.... you were too good for this world, and certainly too good for your men.... although i do wonder why the party didnt say anything like ''do you dare buffudle his dying wish and strike at us now? AFTER an honorable duel? i felt a little sad everyone kept trying to intimidate, on the other hand it probably made sense for the characters :) and honestly.... as much as i like the silver order i would have chosen for the academy as well.
Wow awesome show just finished catching up over the past few weeks...and realized that there are 42 episodes not 43....gonna have to wait a few days to find out what happens next. Can't believe what happened this episode...sad, yet awesome.
Little disappointed that both the DM and Pluto didn't catch his 2 attack of opportunities from mage slayer since he casted 2 spells when pluto had reactions. Would of made the fight much easier.
Man I kind of wish that Monty would have given Pluto the option to do a non lethal blow. Also the scene after the night commander I love the scene of the whole crew just being speechless. Especially the kid.
I don't think the Knight Commander would have accepted that outcome anyway. He was set on a fight to the death. All knocking him out would have accomplished is in delaying the inevitable for however long it would take him to recover.
Watching this on Thanksgiving while I prepare the food! Wishing o could play as a guest character for a game or two. Slowly catching up to current episodes!
The crow has led the party on a path of darknes, i feel like Pluto wuld love to go with the paladins and Ignatius, but his friend put him on a sinister path.
I'm a late to the party, but I can just sense how the party could easily have stood on the side of the Silver Order and the Hooded Lanterns instead. I'm not sure they made the right choice, to be honest.
The silver order is against spellcasters, sebastian is a sorcerer that LIKES his spellcasting and likes that magic can bring good to the world. Plus the silver order is from a foreign force and it's very likely they would want control over drakkenheim after they... burrn it and rebuild, or at least try to reinforce their religion. The academy is politically neutral, caring more about themselves and magic and we have seen how delirium can be good, fascinating and probably dangerous messed with willy-nilly. Both factions can be bad and extremists, but the academy is more in line with their personalities and goals especially sebastian
@@petrus9067 The fact is that the Silver Order is the only faction with the desire and capability to successfully end the threat of Delerium. And end Delerium they must, because we now know that the contamination and Haze will continue to spread if left unchecked. The Amethyst Academy is primarily concerned with harvesting Delerium so as to enhance their own power, wealth, and position. They have absolutely zero interest in restoring the city or helping the kingdom of Westemar. For all their faults, coming to blows with the Silver Order was a mistake. It was the moment that my opinion of the characters (not the players, but the characters themselves) took a turn for the worse.

Its 2023. I'm slowly listening through this series. Gotta tell you, this episode was a hard one to stomach. Its a really well-played tale of a lot of hurt and heavy emotions.
Dungeons of Drakkenheim episode 42: Sebastian kills the younglings
Sebastian doesn't need the High Ground when he can just raise the flame up!
For they loved the light so well, they burned bright in tribute!
2:19:45 "And the magic was, like: 'Oh, you like getting stabbed?'"
Hahahahaha!
This has been my favorite episode of this campaign to date, and that's saying something. Slaying monsters is fun, but conflict between factions and competent combatants is the best.
I think trading Ignatius away might have been "the right thing to do" but this was pretty F-ing epic.
Oh what tangled webs we weave, when oaths we utter and believe.
the politicians turned into trolls LOL its amazing how the tension keeps rising episode after episode. the party never has a chance to catch their breath while the plot becomes more and more complex. master tier storytelling!
Monty made Theodore Marshall so charismatic that half of the comment section would have joined the paladin squires in their last stand.
While set in their ways, ignorant, and stubborn, I would have sided with them against the academy.
@@ShadowsOfEssence Foolish. Delerium will destroy the world sooner or later. The Silver Order is the only faction that seems to be doing something about this.
@@Beau74 I said I would side with them (the Silver Order) OVER the academy. Did you not read the comment?
@@ShadowsOfEssence Apprarently not. My apologies.
No, they dishonored everything the Knight commander lived by. Their decision to not accept the traditions of Single Combat by attacking the victor was nauseating.
Holy crap Monty, great episode and RPing. A part of me is starting to believe we may be the bad guys... That's amazing hahaha
@@Streetconefilm I agree
Greed is also a thin and they're only in this country in the first place because their world leader wants to take it over, otherwise they have literally no reason to be here at all and no reason to interfere with the politics that are happening because it has nothing to do with their country in the slightest
I like Nigel and I kind of liked Theodore even if I kind of wanted to backhand him across a table, but other than them they're all just as corrupt as the followers of the following fire
NBA entire silver order is definitely one of the bad guys here
Nah the paladins are very obviously lawful stupid. They see zero nuance and their plan is burn it all, there is zero compromise in them. The AA for all their faults (and there are many) will make a deal.
They're also invading a sovereign nation. Very much the baddies and wish the players had hammered that point into them more
The crows cawing in the audio during Sebastian’s warning were great!
You know I think there was a legitimate argument for both the paladins and the academy. The paladins wanted to burn down the city but once cleansed the city could have been rebuilt. The mages want to harness the delirium and wait to reinhabit the city later. It was an interesting choice
I love it when the villain is more sympathetic than the heroes... we're not there yet, but I have hope for Sebastian's dark powers!
No, the Academy doesn't want the city to be rebuilt. They just want to go on harvesting Delerium forever... which, for numerous reasons, is a plan with disastrous long-term consequences.
Veo finally gets her one on one moment!!!
Hey Dungeon Dudes, just keep doing this and pretty soon you *will* get the Critical Role effect! Just crazy good from everyone involved.
Monty is such master* at building characters, I felt every word the Night Commander said, and it pained me to no end that they had to fight him. It's tragic, I'm heartbroken for a fantasy US southern Paladin 🗡💔
*see what I did there? ah?
"They pushed their convictions past the point of foolishness."- that line is beautiful!
My burning question...
Can you break the heart of a sword?
I know mine sure took a beating.
I hope something good can come of it... though I fear Pluto was on to something when he wondered how the other factions would react after they "murdered the paladins."
Not only did the Night Commander beg Pluto to make the trade, but Ignasius also made it pretty clear that this fight was wrong...at least for him/it...which takes me back to my question...
Anyways, you guys ARE THE BEST, I LOVE YOU ALL, and can't wait for the next episode!
PS, it also appears that you still have a team name problem...
They'll figure it out eventually... probably in the middle of battle, after all, what's the worst that could happen.
The Paladins would never have had seen eye to eye with their Ideals and the Hierarchy would never call off the the war unless they couldve mustered a way stronger army so its better that they are gone now. Also screw the sword.
I'd have got rid of the sword tbh. Not much point being truthful if it will not allow you to speak out about bad orders.
@@erysdahl Pluto should have demanded the duel be for ownership of Ignatius AND the badge AND all of you tin-can hillbillies leave Drakkenheim forever... but this session was EPIC. Easily my fav so far.
Would agree if it wasn't for the fact that the paladin still kind of want to burn down drakkenheim to the ground
Also pretty ironic that the paladins hate magic users and yet their class itself is basically half castor
They are hypocrites and arrogant shiny buttplates!
Don't forget they also want to let the queen die, which I know this is a fantasy setting but that kind of think it's me like magical ableism vibes
You should never let a group composed entirely of religious people be a political world leader, ever
They aren't even from westimar, they're only here because they're being bossed around by somebody else who wants to take over an empire possibly it illegally
I kind of feel bad for the sword though, I nearly lost it when it's kind of revealed that it was religious just like they were.
In my opinion there isn’t bad and good in this campaign...
after all the Paladins work to concur this city but also to get rid of delirium (is delirium even a bad thing?)
What about the point of the amethyst academy that is helping magic touched people and tries to get rid of evil magic users? (Like Sebastian)
What about the point that the silver order knows nothing about how to deal with arcane magic and the queen of thieves?
In addition the silver order wants to burn the city to the ground and the rat prince! (And probably won’t give any property back to their owners)
Also they refused the offer of working with the amethyst academy and the hooded lanterns (even the academy was ok with that alliance)
also they want to kill the queen and veo vowed to protect her (and why is the question, is it because she’s “evil” or to get influence over the city)
But the Paladins were the friends of the players no? And the academy is very selfish...
But that’s just the general situation,
what about the point that Pluto wanted to spare Theodore, but Theodore refused,
But Pluto could have spared him and hope that Theodore won’t kill him without mercy...
the party defended themselves after all...
Feels like, just maybe, that could have gone better. At like, every step
2:09:00 - That might just be my favorite Sebastian moment so far, and the competition is fierce!

Probably my favorite Pluto quote
That duel was really intense! I love how non-filter Jupiter is, Caspians represent!
I've just arrived here to have a good time and this tittle is freaking me out
1:19:00 Thanks for letting me know about the Sentinel Shield, now my Artificer build can add a different infusion than Helm of Awareness.
Joe,you're the man,i love how you play Pluto, nice work.
Monty, you have a great poker face. Every time the party is discussing what they are doing, your expression is neutral. I hope can do that when I GM.
Gotta also remember they are a group of 3 instead of 4 like a lot of parties
I definitely need to check out the remastered audio podcast. Thanks for doing this.

KNIGHT CAP'N IS BACK! I could listen to his righteous speeches all day!
Also I love the rings and the aqua delirium... Monty has set it up so they won't get bogged down needing to long rest, now they can hit it hard and take on protracted missions without slowing the pace (and it counteracts the haze stopping them from resting)
This campaign is brilliantly crafted. Well done.
What a gut-wrenching episode. 😢
I don't believe that Drakkenforce was wrong, but that victory still didn't feel right. So tragic.
What an amazing story. Thanks for streaming your game for us!
I'm so gonna start doing occasional one on one duels in my campaign, it's such a cool storytelling tool! Great work 3 years ago y'all!
Strike down a comander of a holy knight order, then when the sword dedicated to said order refuses to work, call it a temper tantrum.
I'm very curious how Veo's new armor will affect interactions with the fish people.
What an AMAZING episode!
I wonder if Monty has forgotten about the TMNT he mentioned waaay back in, like, episode 1 or 2 that Drakkenforce saw when crossing the river?
This duel is still a moment where i love and despair for them. Marshal was such a great friend in battle
Was really hoping for Ignatius to fly into the knight captain’s hands when Sebastian and Veo interfered x(
Well cued crows in the background.
Fantastic episode, thanks for putting on this show ❤ also shout out to the discord gang
Veo's coat of arms is so fun!
It might cause problems with the fish people though...
No one cares for honor these days
Besides, the silver order soldiers didnt respect knight captain's choice to die in their place
They instigated a fight and died
So knight captain's wishes have been in vain
That and they do not have any business in drakkenheim in the first place
They have no right to just meddle with their affairs for the stupid sake of self righteousness and obnoxious zealot bs
We don’t use alignment.
@@DungeonDudes then it doesn't make sense for Ignacious to act that way... well, other than the fact that Pluto is weak willed on his overpowering the intelligent weapon.
Spoilers:
Veo watches Pluto enter an entirely avoidable match to the death over Caspian "honor."
A few moments after congratulating Pluto on the win, tells Jupiter that he has something to learn about honor when he expects Pluto to make THE EXACT SAME CHOICE, again. Much more "honorable" to burn the child to death in her eyes, obviously.
God, I hope someone puts Sebastian and Veo in their place.
@@BlueberryDro1 FOR REALL!
"Destroying your home?"
That's a very questionable interpretation.

Joeeeeeee, you forgot to use your reaction from mage slayer to make an attack every time Knight Commander used a "spell" smite.
He was using them for Riposte and Shield mostly. I agree it would have been a better idea though, even if it just meant he got to use different maneuvers for those attacks.
Thiago Bessa well at least he did remember the advantage on saves against spells...
You are so right! I need to use the full extent of mage slayer, also using it for my reaction leaves opportunities to add maneuvers on top.
My thoughts exactly.
Got this up a little earlier than normal! Excellent!
FINALLY! took me 40+ episodes to memorize the into
Now that I think about it.
Because they're fanatics and can't be reasoned with.
This is the correct interpretation. The wall of fire should not have affected them as it was cast where it was cast.
And these murder hobos might some day end up ruling Drakkenheim...
Calling them murder hobos when they're consistently tried to be diplomatic with most of the factions (even if they've bungled it repeatedly with poor attempts at deception) seems fairly disingenuous to me. The problem here is that the Silver Order are dogmatic zealots.
"It's cold, about ten degrees. And, as always, it's raining." Thanks for reminding me you're in Canada XD
this episode breaks my heart
when pluto calls the night captain a hypocrite i cried out like ignacious...
"NO, YOU ARE!"
;_; don't lose your way
However the sliver order does work to CONQUER this country and although the knight captain seemed like a good person, the heiarch is definitely motivated by politics (they are at least as bad as the academy).
@@Eygam1yeah, I don’t get why no one else thinks the knight commander is the biggest hypocrite and blinded by pride fool by his words and actions.
I love the Wayne's world reference from Joe... and her name was cassandraaaaa
58:50 the squad of caspians just got batmaned.
"Can you at least rub it in a little more?" XD
awh :( rest in peace Knight commander.... you were too good for this world, and certainly too good for your men.... although i do wonder why the party didnt say anything like ''do you dare buffudle his dying wish and strike at us now? AFTER an honorable duel? i felt a little sad everyone kept trying to intimidate, on the other hand it probably made sense for the characters :) and honestly.... as much as i like the silver order i would have chosen for the academy as well.
They kinda said those things, rolled poorly, and then lawful stupid paladins do what lawful stupid paladins do
This battle and the subsequent one was epic… I was talking to myself… hollering!
Wow awesome show just finished catching up over the past few weeks...and realized that there are 42 episodes not 43....gonna have to wait a few days to find out what happens next.
Can't believe what happened this episode...sad, yet awesome.
"Well said, they can die!" You heard the man hahaha
Little disappointed that both the DM and Pluto didn't catch his 2 attack of opportunities from mage slayer since he casted 2 spells when pluto had reactions. Would of made the fight much easier.
2:11:40 classic Wayne's World reference, gotta love it!
It's not so much that the flame is with them more like they are now kindling for the flame.
Pluto tried to let him surrender, he refused. Pluto could have just said he kos him, but he didn't.
Watching this on Thanksgiving while I prepare the food! Wishing o could play as a guest character for a game or two. Slowly catching up to current episodes!
This episode got me so fucked up 😭😭😭😭😭
Such amazing story telling and acting this session
I’m really sad, Marshall was one of my favorites. 🙁
That “Hoping for Snacks” T-shirt is perfect for Veo.
The crow has led the party on a path of darknes, i feel like Pluto wuld love to go with the paladins and Ignatius, but his friend put him on a sinister path.
that dual was hella tense 😥 I wasn't sure if Pluto was gonna make it.

With 600' range, Veo could shoot quite a lot with her bow from the clock tower....
Also not nearly as loud as a rifle....
but most of the time vision is obscured in drakkenheim
i thought veyo was going to go full dark side with "leave one alive" for a second there
I'm a late to the party, but I can just sense how the party could easily have stood on the side of the Silver Order and the Hooded Lanterns instead.
It was the moment that my opinion of the characters (not the players, but the characters themselves) took a turn for the worse.
are the defenders of drakkenhim now considered murder hobos?
That would depend on how you define "murderhobo".
Yeah... they're murderCOMMANDERS
