Well back when I did Security Police we always shined up our stars when they got dirty with toothpaste, Now I know thanks to this vid NEVER do that, Though Brasso I'm not too sure of, It has been used by the British to polish their insigina for ages and thus is popular for shining dull Police badges, I'm no longer in that line of work and now just collect vs wear badges and when I buy one that's just dirty and not needing polished but just dullish, I use a foamy gentle handsoap and soft tooth brush to clean it then rinse it, I tend not to polish unless absolutely nessessary cause I've found over time when you place the badge into a collector's pouch for safe keeping it still tarnishes and you'll have to reshine it, So if I can just clean it and make it look good again vs having to reshine constantly that's all the more better, Some signs of use are ok and give character, It's that green patina I don't like that makes a badge hard to read.
