You doubled the size of that room by painting it white and putting a larger bed in there. I would never have tried it. Anyone flying over to spend time there would be grateful to fall into that bed and sleep off the jet lag, or sleep in mornings. Just a small wall mounted platform shelf 6'x6' next to the bed for phone, nightlight is all you need. Bravo, the Before looked impossible, and depressing actually, but you have vision :)

If you put paint over the plaster in the kitchen if will eventually fail because the plaster won’t be able to breath. Use the lime wash and for color install tile.

I would recommend drilling large holes in the piece of MDF under the mattress for airflow. Humidity is very high in Portugal so airflow is important to keep things free of mould. We used a 25mm auger bit and it worked well.

A skylight Built into were the missing ceiling paneling is - They have those glass roof tiles- do three - then that wall would have a ton of natural light raking it and bouncing around. I thiink that hole in the wall was a listening on on the conversation hole-Or would the priest go house to house- and it would act as the confessional - although I think you had one in the laundry between the houses so the ladies could talk as they did laundry.

Hey, JD. When I come to visit - you ARE going to ask your viewers to stay, right? - could you have a small shelf on the wall for glasses, phone, book, whatever? (Before I saw the bed, I wondered if some sort of attachable wooden tray could be made, but it would ruin the look. I know I'm being demanding, but could you also find some old drawers and put wheels on them that roll on cork flooring for under the bed? I try to pack light, but I'd just as soon not have to rifle through my backpack or luggage for my clothing items. I love the look, but I'm all for a fan and a skylight. As to cleaning the dirt off making things look better, maybe I should do that in my house? Or I could just keep calling it patina.
the skylights here are glass or plastic versions of the clay tiles so you just replace one of the tiles, no need to worry about leaks or trying to seal around a frame
it would be better if you had placed the boards far apart from each other, but in any case make holes (many and large) in the board under the mattress, otherwise the sweating of the body will make the mattress moldy

It has some type of coating that makes it durable and water"proof" (enough for use in a bathroom). I'm not a geezer yet but I'm clumsy lol. Tiles were my first thought, especially since its a Portuguese specialty, but its only hot for 2 or 3 months and even then mornings are chilly so the floor gets cold. But I can get leftover pallets of tiles for cheap at the thrift store so that is also a factor.
What's the layout of this room? Do you have cupboard/wardrobe space? A sky light is an excellent idea; paired with good placement of a mirror will turn it into a favourite snug. 🤗
Theres a random little room through the doorway before the bathroom on the other side of the wall that will be the wardrobe space, so like a walk-thru closet I guess

Its just a big open space above, so it would be nice to raise it to be even with the kitchen ceiling about 6 inches higher, but that will require doing a lot of brick work and resetting beams so that will wait til much later
Its from when I cut the old pipes out, but I'll have to wait til I remove them from the bathroom side of the wall before I can fill in the hole. Unless you're talking about the square hole on the left, then I have no idea what thats for.

The plan is to do the main bedroom next so I can use it as storage space to do the rest of the house

Yeah, once I started cleaning that was my thought. Seems like pretty much everyone smokes here and I'm sure it was even worse back in the day.

Cork is nice in the bedroom but too tender for the kitchen. Tiles are bulletproof.
Its rated for high traffic residental/medium commercial spaces so it should be durable enough, plus a little bit of cushion when I drop stuff.

you could put down linoleum for now until you save for the cork.
The concrete is fine for now, no need to create a bunch of extra waste

you cant use a sprayer for white wash it will clog up we even tried a drywall texture gun and it clogged

Decke und das loch in der Wand ist nicht schön da muss dir was anderes einfallen und der Fußboden was ist da mit
