    I love my Kaweco sport, really good nibs. Unfortunately I hate the TWSBI Go - the section is rather sharp towards the nib and very uncomfortable for me. The Eco is brilliant and oncle of my favourites. Love your channel by the way.

    Big fan of the iPad as a writing and productivity tool, especially with the pencil and keyboard. I can recommend the Air, as it's got most things of the pro for a good price (I have the pro but in hindsight I might've gone with the Air, although the screen real estate is wonderful in the 12.9). I wouldn't recommend the new iPad, as it's stupid to need the old pencil with an adapter - if that matters, of course.
    Maybe someday a collaboration with William Gallagher? He's also a British writer on youtube focusing on writing on Mac and iPads. Would be a cool video to have you two experts have a talk about writing and technology! Just a thought.
    All the best, Chris

    • @writerlywitterings

      Thanks for that, Chris - and for the advice on iPads as well as William Gallagher. Interesting! I've been looking at an iPad Air. I think that would be the best future-proofed tool for me, because of having the same chip as my M1 iMac. The additional benefits of Sidecar etc will help, but having Aeon Timeline on the iPad will be the most important aspect. Plus, of course, being able to record videos and instantly upload to the Apple for editing etc. I was astonished at how quick and easy it was this week to pinch my wife's machine, rather than setting up the Fuji camera, separate microphone, and after recording having to upload the data to the iMac, which always takes an age - have to upload straight from the SC card, which is a pain compared with storing it in the cloud and calling it back from the iPad. I think I'll have to sell a Visconti or something to afford it, though!
      That's a very interesting idea with William. I'll have a think about that and get in touch with him. It could make for a brilliant collaboration. Cheers!

      Thanks, and that's the main comment I'm getting. I'll have to create a separate shelf in front of my desk to accommodate that, which should not be a problem. It's certainly a great deal faster to have the iPad upload straight to the iMac than filming separately, using a separate audio channel (the camera doesn't pick up audio terribly well), then editing to splice the audio and video together before the main editing ... it's a pain and takes ages!

    Like your video, Michael. I am a writer of sorts, and do all my writing using a fountain pen. Plus, I have had a bunch of serious strokes, so I need to use fps that have a pretty hefty cgirth. I have after saving my pennies, have invested in a few MB 149 pens, and a CS Churchill pen from before CS changed ownership most recently, and I also have and use a few Parker Duofold Centennial pens. Haha - it was my birthday a couple of weeks ago, and my wife bought me this. It's lovely, really warm (and since our house has oil-fuelled central heating, we're wearing more layers this year), and pure wool, so it's much better for the environment. It's made by Aran Crafts in Ireland, and it was really good value - plus I love the oatmeal colour!
      On the Pineider, you're absolutely right. Really good value, and I've been immensely impressed with this TTT system for refilling. Much more efficient than, say, the Viscontis of similar design. Somehow it sucks up much more ink than them. And the nib is equal, to my mind, with the Conway Stewart stub medium.

    • @writerlywitterings
      @writerlywitterings  2 роки тому +1

      Hi, Joe. Really glad you like the Breeze - I think they're fabulous and not terribly expensive for the quality.
      Yes, I am struggling a little with Aeon, because this is the first time I've used it in anger with a new book, but it's really good to be able to see the timeline represented graphically, and I do love the way that interactions between characters can be portrayed. I'm gradually getting to grips with it. It is very complex - but so is Scrivener. The good thing about the two together is the seamless syncronisation between them. It makes life a lot easier. I'm starting to work slightly differently, and trying to plan my day more first thing, and then setting out the scenes I want to have in Aeon before going ahead and typing in Scrivener, adding and removing as necessary. So far it seems to be working - but it'll be a lot easier when I can afford a newer iPad, I think.

    Forgive the intrusion. Unable to find the video which spoke of the Freewrite typewriter to comment in the proper place I am reaching out to you here. I own and love the Freewrite and am okay with the no edit concept. I applaud it, actually. But now I have all these written words that need editing (likely serious editing) and I am unable to understand how to move these scenes to an editor. I have the ability to edit within Scrivener and Word365. Are you able to resolve this problem for me? I have been enjoying your videos; I might need a new fountain pen after watching this one!

    • @writerlywitterings
      @writerlywitterings  2 роки тому +1

      Hi, Patti,
      No problem. There are several ways. One is to plug your Freewrite into the computer using the USB cable. It'll ask if you want it to work as a spare disk drive. Say OK to that, and you'll find that you can look on the computer's file manager, you'll find the Freewrite.
      Second, you could have the Dropbox alternative. I use this. You need to go into your Postbox account (if you don't have one, go to this page and it'll tell you everything you need to know).
      This is my approach. My Freewrite syncs seamlessly with my Postbox account, and from that to my Dropbox account. On my Apple, Dropbox is one additional disk drive. When I open Scrivener I just copy the new Dropbox files across to my Apple.
      Hope that helps!

As to how well they write - well, you already agree on the Schneider!

    I have six pens that I love beyond measure. The Bronze Age, the Scribo Feel, and the Kaweco Brass Sport with a gold nib are my daily carry pens, and I love all three massively. I also have three Namiki pens, one Chinkin and two Maki-e, that I bought back before retirement, and before Covid hit our finances so hard. Pilot nibs are great, but the Namiki nibs are even better. I can't imagine better nibs.
    I can't afford any of these pens now, but long ago I learned the value of saving money, and of how the best way for me to save is with a "Christmas" account. I don't know how banks work in England, but my bank has something called Christmas account. You start putting money in two weeks before Christmas, and you aren't allowed to withdraw any money until two weeks before the next Christmas. Even ten dollars a week makes five hundred and twenty dollars per year. Slip in an extra few dollars whenever possible and it builds quickly. It's forced saving because you can't withdraw a penny for a year, and it makes a wonderful way of buying high priced fountain pens.
    I have friends who use these accounts. Some buy fountain pens this way, some buy other nice things, and some just give their families a nice Christmas this way. I just use my account for fountain pens, and my wife uses hers for different things each year.
    Right now, I can't decide whether to roll my account over and build up a really nice sum, or whether to buy an Avatar. But I have nearly a month to decide.
    Anyway, the Brass Sport has been the pen that surprised me the most. I used it with a steel nib for quite a while, and loved it, even though everything about it was something I didn't think I would like. When I put a steel nib on it, it instantly because one of my favorite writers, and I'm still not sure why. I almost always use it with cartridges because it does run out of ink rapidly, and a cartridge pops in so fast that it doesn't really matter that it runs out. It's just a pen I truly enjoy using.

    • @writerlywitterings
      @writerlywitterings  2 роки тому

      Thanks for that, James. I love the Kaweco too. In terms of ease of carrying, comfort to use, and general quality, I think they're very hard to beat. Of course the TWSBI Go has the advantage in terms of the ink capacity - but it doesn't look as good!
      I'm not sure about Christmas savings accounts. I know we used to have lots of them with the Co Op and other banks, but I think they've mostly fallen by the wayside (could just be that I haven't kept up to date with what is available, of course). They're no good for me, because, as an author, I only get paid once every six months, and a monthly savings plan just doesn't work, sadly.
      I'm jealous of the pen collection. I have never been able to afford better quality Japanese pens, and the idea of a Maki-e is really appealing, but I doubt I'd ever be able to justify it, sadly.
      AS for the Pineider - I cannot recommend them highly enough. I've been really delighted with this one. It writes like a dream, the filling mechanism is superb, and it's basically wonderful!
