My first time seeing a Foo Fighters show was about 5 years ago where they played a 3-hour set. I'll never forget the moment when Dave addressed the people who paid to be standing closest to the stage, telling them how much he appreciates their support, but that he was gonna go stand closer to the sides and the back, because he wanted the people who couldn't afford the same tickets to have the same kind of experience, and that's exactly what he did. I was seated more on the back-left direction of the stage and I got to see him rock out up-close and it was awesome.
I was sitting in a similar spot to where u described and that was so cool when he sands out looking right out at you. Like most bands just focus on the people on the floor but he was awesoke
Brendan Manning one of the times I saw him, we were in somewhat nosebleed seats and they had a stage portion that elevated him up and he was level with us, singing right to us. It was incredible. He singled out our section and everything
rebeccatemchin that’s sick. You know the foo fighters aren’t my all time favourite band but I think they put in the best show, only band I can think of that compares is green day but they don’t pull as many stunts lol.
Brendan Manning oh they’re quite good too! It’s all down to what you’re looking for in a concert. For me, it’s what I’m looking for that particular day, ha
It’s really interesting that these down to earth, mellow guys like Dave Grohl and Eddie Vedder were at the forefront of these high energy, rock bands and when you watch their interviews they are so chill. It’s a nice dichotomy.
If you can go from tunes like, "Still" to "But, Honestly", to "Stacked Actors", and then back to "Best of You". Then, off to "Pretender" and then a masterpiece "Sky is a neighbourhood", and then back to "D.O.A", then up again to "Low" and so on...and so on... then you have IT!
i love this channel so much. you might not notice it, but the reason you get such great reactions is because the interviewer listens and engages so closely. he is awesome and this is the only place i'd wanna see an interview of someone i like. not interested in talk shows or something goofy
He experiments on other projects. Probot, Them Crooked Vultures... way too many to list. Foo Fighters is the ATM though. That's the money maker; give the fans what they want and you can basically print money.
I think it's what he said; he writes a song entirely for himself, decides it isn't right for the band, reconsiders, then does it with them anyway, and then releases it.
+Joshua Martins Yeah, I thought the only song they've refused to play was Creep but because that was the only song they'd request, 100% of the time, everyday, 24/7 and it'd get annoying at some point, but I had no idea they refused to play all of their top songs in general.
Sonic Ninja I believe it was meant to symbolize stars of the screen not actively acting, but being themselves. This is the first I remember of a musical guest.
I loved that album even though it was the pivot point for them really. You could say that acoustic disk from For Honor was. I think Echoes was really good though.
Next time Big Paul is out, he should fill in as drummer for Killing Joke to remind him again what is possible. They've got a whole album to do, most of which was never played live anyway.
this reminds me of the problem with Opeth. Fans complain all the time that the new stuff dont have growl anymore or that it is more progressive and so on...
Didn't he contradict himself? On the one hand, he was talking about pushing the envelope and asking why a song can't be a foo fighters one. On the other hand though, he was saying he wants to stay within the envelope and make music people want to hear. I'm confused?
What? I don't think so. They have only released ONE album and the only song they have never played live is "off to war", which is not even one of the most popular ones.
i think what i was talking about here is the artist making "challenging" music. i read in one of Julian's interviews that he acknowledges that The Voidz's music isn't the easiest to listen to but he makes them anyway cos he wants to and it also becomes a training for our ears so we'd be open to this huge area of "unheard" music
Thank you for those words Dave!! you guys are the best I was at a show in citifield when u broke your leg you guys still kicked ass but I was pissed at one thing idk if you will see this but when I go to see my favorite band I wanna hear foo fighters I love your covers dont stop sprinkling them in cause its cool to hear your interpretation but toooo manyyy I wanna hear the fucking Foo Fighters... love you guys!!! love and miss Nirvana too and its time to cover a song or 2 :) I say that most respectfully
I've never seen them play a Nirvana song live I agree someone show me? I dont think you can either as far as them playing it safe I dont think that's true if you want to alienate your fans start doing that nowadays you can experiment on a guest spot here and there or just post on you tube or social media if he did that shit and I payed 150 to 300 too see their show you bet they wouldn't get my money again I think Kurt might have changed as the world changed too he wasn't a narrow minded person I dont think
cobain/ vedder nah Kurt wouldnt even be in the music world today. Maybe production or something small scaled. He definitely wouldn't have conformed to society's way of making and presenting art and music. He was always his own person
I hope at this point he is just playing and writing what he wants. To me the Foo Fighters brand is literally anything they play. It would even be entertaining if they turned their backs to the crowd. But seriously...if it doesn't resonate with the artist then the artist shouldn't be doing it. Otherwise you are a cover band. It resonated with fans when Nirvana stopped trying to please fans/critics for Heart Shaped Box and just said "fuck it". Foo Fighters has always been whatever Dave wanted it to be...whatever his intentions were are sort of irrelevant.
Best band marketing ever. " I want you to be part of the experience..." Sure Dave. Lemme on stage with you next time and then I'll have a full experience.
Wasting light= Amazing variety Sonic Highways= All the songs sound very similar (except something from nothing) I won't buy an album to hear the same thing 10 times over. It's like a book, if every chapter is the same story it isn't really inviting after a while. Come on Dave lets get some more variety next time please, you are not Lady Gaga, you are proper musicians don't fucking sell out like that.
I think Wasting Light is the album with the least variety of their discography. Its a heavy arena rock record from top to bottom, and its fucking great dont get me wrong. I would say that their last two albums show more musical diversity than the others.
+jnthemyst of course he is...he's almost 50 now !! Krist has dabbled in politics..pretty sure he's the total opposite of what they "stood for". They were young guys in their 20's playing angry, punk inspired music. People grow up and change..and realize the things that they were so angry about in their 20's seem trivial when you hit your 40's. Trust me...I know lol
Krist was always into politics though. I'm talking about commercial music, after ff first album they made pretty mainstream music and like dave says they don't challenge their audience like radiohead, like nirvana surely would've done and I'm not saying that's bad (though it's not my thing) but he basically admits to trying make arena rock music which is odd and kinda lame considering he was in nirvana I understand ppl change but dave did a 180, and I even like ff first couple of albums. Janes addiction sure as hell didn't get away with abandoning their roots and making radio friendly traditional albums.
They have taken a lot of chances on recent albums though. I'll give you that maybe their first few albums sounded very similar, but Wasting Light and Sonic Highways have a number of songs especially that hardly safe and radio friendly. (ex. Rope, White Limo, The Feast and The Famine, Bridge Burning)
Znapaznarf Dave is my favourite musician im actually kinda jealous u saw foo fighters play live lol must've been awesome
He singled out our section and everything

..........What a quality, down to earth human being Dave is.......
Dave comes across as down to earth, adaptive, diligent & honest
i love this channel so much. you might not notice it, but the reason you get such great reactions is because the interviewer listens and engages so closely. he is awesome and this is the only place i'd wanna see an interview of someone i like. not interested in talk shows or something goofy
It's true. the interviewer knows what he's doing. He knows how to engage, dig and push the interviewee.
i wish he'd make music more for him than us. hope he experiments more in the future
barfyman362 Probot was one example.
And then Medicine at Midnight came out and everyone was mad🤷🏾♀️
@@Mialamorena1 ...and then But Here We Are came out and everyone is happy and nostalgic at the same time :)
I could listen to that man my whole life
Right
"I don't want to be a band that invites 80'000 people to a show..and then challenges them" . First band that comes to mind...Radiohead lol
What do you mean? What did Radiohead do?
+Zohraish Virani I mean ..Radiohead has often refused to play their "popular" songs in concert.
+Joshua Martins Oh ok. That's interesting.
+Joshua Martins Yeah, I thought the only song they've refused to play was Creep but because that was the only song they'd request, 100% of the time, everyday, 24/7 and it'd get annoying at some point, but I had no idea they refused to play all of their top songs in general.
Nirvana did the same, and Grohl was the fuckin' drummer of that band.
Elliot smith said it best: you write music that pleases you first. If you like it someone is bound to like it and hate it
So crazy, as I'm reading this, I'm listening to Elliot Smith right now...
This is literally all on camera.
Sonic Ninja I believe it was meant to symbolize stars of the screen not actively acting, but being themselves. This is the first I remember of a musical guest.
Lol
yeah, and the url in the end is off center. bugs the sh** outta me.
I DIDNT EVEN NOTICE THAT UNTIL YOU MENTIONED IT FUUUUUUUUUUUUU
Really?
Try to listen to Statues by the Foo Fighters. Its not really a Foos song but it is,
i love Statues and Summer's End. Underrated songs
I loved that album even though it was the pivot point for them really. You could say that acoustic disk from For Honor was. I think Echoes was really good though.
One of the best Foos songs
Agreed.
really loved summer's end.
1:35 i wonder what my wife thinks if I kiss dave in the mouth?
TheOrisya fruity... 😂😂😂
TheOrisya she’s probably think and wonder, how did he fit his entire body in his mouth
"cough" run "cough"
"cough" best song ever "cough"
That’s exactly what I thought best foo fighters song ever
Does anyone know the story behind the song 'Still' on the 'In your Honor' album? The song sounds so eerie and I love it!
....”right”.......
To prove his point, “In Your Honor” Disc 2 is one of my all-time favorite records!!!
Shit, I really needed to hear this as a writer and a musician! Thank you, Dave Grohl!
I
this is why i love this man.... like, listen to this!
"I don't want to be a band that turns its back on the audience". Give them why they came to see you.
God I love him!
Who's to say whether it is or isn't a Foo Fighters song ..well that would be you Dave.. My absolute favorite rock and roll guy right here
Back then you had the full interview on UA-cam
What happened to that? Oh..
Can someone please link the whole interview to me? Can´t seem to find it
Go to " offcamera.com "
I love the song run by the foos
Next time Big Paul is out, he should fill in as drummer for Killing Joke to remind him again what is possible. They've got a whole album to do, most of which was never played live anyway.
What album was it?
Greatest advise for any band ever
this reminds me of the problem with Opeth. Fans complain all the time that the new stuff dont have growl anymore or that it is more progressive and so on...
... Right
Right ...
That’s just how it is!
i enjoy, and am not scared of a challenge
‘Is the emphasis on Foo or on Fight ers’
An honest man has nothing to fear.
...And this is how we got The Sky is a Neighborhood.
He sounds a bit like a marketeer but I respect him and his music that he makes his band play.
Right
right
Ride On by AC/DC
haha where is it?
Your style of music has always been aggressive with mellow. You listened to your own records?
Right. Right... really added a lot to the video lol
Didn't he contradict himself? On the one hand, he was talking about pushing the envelope and asking why a song can't be a foo fighters one. On the other hand though, he was saying he wants to stay within the envelope and make music people want to hear. I'm confused?
artist that comes to mind: JULIAN CASABLANCAS... + THE VOIDZ
I know what you mean. I had trouble myself listening to The Voidz at first, but then I was just hooked by such a genious musical project.
i hope linkin park is listening lol
True that lol
ZSimpleName yea man tell me about it
SenkaiKasa Thats terrible but great.
:'(
Well... maybe Chester listened to this and And it seems that he really regretted :(
Sam, ya gotta step up ur interview game.
Hes a great interviewer ya wanker
I haven’t watched much of his work, but he says one word in this interview twice. Right
@@jonb6099 that's 5 minutes of a hour interview.
Led Zeppelin were the masters of making unexpected music that was still of them. IV/ZOSO is the high example of this.
unfortunately I agree
Well this interview explains the fuck out of The Sky is a Neighborhood...
Has anyone noticed that Dave looks sort of like Aubrey Plaza?
now that you mention it.... Aubrey is hotter tho
Dave just fuc4ing rocks, man
Thank you for those words Dave!! you guys are the best I was at a show in citifield when u broke your leg you guys still kicked ass but I was pissed at one thing idk if you will see this but when I go to see my favorite band I wanna hear foo fighters I love your covers dont stop sprinkling them in cause its cool to hear your interpretation but toooo manyyy I wanna hear the fucking Foo Fighters... love you guys!!! love and miss Nirvana too and its time to cover a song or 2 :) I say that most respectfully
They'll never do a nirvana song
richard10013 They have never played a nirvana song and most likely never will
+richard10013 Fine show me a video of them playing a nirvana song.
Ummm...no...no they didn't do a bunch of Nirvana songs at Reading. Nice try though.
+richard10013 still waiting for that proof
Free of constraints = Foo Fighters
I've never seen them play a Nirvana song live I agree someone show me? I dont think you can either as far as them playing it safe I dont think that's true if you want to alienate your fans start doing that nowadays you can experiment on a guest spot here and there or just post on you tube or social media if he did that shit and I payed 150 to 300 too see their show you bet they wouldn't get my money again I think Kurt might have changed as the world changed too he wasn't a narrow minded person I dont think

Gonna have to be a pretty big stage for 80k people
Derp Derp Derp ...he looks like the drummer from Nirvana! Derp Derp Derp
do rhcp
R I G H T
The interviewer has the worst hairstyle I’ve ever seen
what he meant to say is, his acoustic song in Nirvana was the worst song ever and he redeemed himself through his new band.
Wasting light= Amazing variety

The irony being that Lady Gaga is a classically trained and very highly regarded musician.
I think Wasting Light is the album with the least variety of their discography. Its a heavy arena rock record from top to bottom, and its fucking great dont get me wrong. I would say that their last two albums show more musical diversity than the others.
Sonic Highways SUCKED and the fact that they don't play a single song from that album on their current tour validates my point .
Pretty much the definition of being a safe rock band. ff play it safe unlike Dave's previous band, that was the kind of thing kurt hated. Just sayin
What Kurt "hated" as a young man in his early 20's..would probably have changed quite a bit as a middle aged man in his 40's.
Probably so, it's hard to say what he'd be like. Dave is pretty much the polar opposite of what nirvana stood for in the 90s though.
+jnthemyst of course he is...he's almost 50 now !! Krist has dabbled in politics..pretty sure he's the total opposite of what they "stood for".
