Awesome always was curious abt this stuff as I don't get into BMS much. Hope Eagle Dynamics is doing something like this with their upcoming "Dynamic Campaign" system for DCS.
I don't think people understand that the dynamic campaign system is just the tip of the iceberg. The dynamic campaign in Falcon is actually very simple. The problem is that there is a long list of features that Falcon BMS has which enable the dynamic campaign to function, which are missing from DCS. Here's a list of things that I know of. - AI that can employ teamwork tactics in BVR, and that tries to preserve its own life. - AI that doesn't cheat its flight model, and that doesn't need to cheat to be dangerous - AI that can fly coordinated missions with multiple flights in the package. - Consistent, believable damage modeling for air and ground units, and weapon effects - AI that can perform in-flight refueling procedures alongside human players. (This was the exact moment I realized BMS was special.) - AI that can taxi, take off, fly a pattern, and land without deadlocking the airfield or circling until it runs out of gas - Air traffic control including separate ground and tower frequencies. - The ability for players to exit their aircraft while it is in flight and have the AI take over their aircraft and fly the briefed mission. (instead of just disappearing.) - The ability for players to take over AI aircraft that are in flight, whether it is the flight lead or a wingman. (Allows you to rejoin if you get disconnected mid-session. See previous.) - Integrated air defenses with good AI (not scripted) - Flak (not scripted) - A mission planner (as seen in this video) and working DTC - IFF plans - Ground units that can move without bogging down a whole multiplayer server - A complete and period-appropriate set of aircraft, air defense, ships, ground units, etc. - The ability to keep the sim running for days or weeks of real time, and to save/pause/load the sim. (It's not a series of connected mission files. It's continuous time.) - Dynamic weather and turbulence - ECM (it's not so secret that it cannot be modeled with a reasonable degree of accuracy) - Enough built-in callsigns for all the players and AI
I'm afraid, that if ED wants to make dynamic campaign functional, they would have to make it rather pretty small scaled, or do something with the optimization. I've been trying Liberation, and any campaign with scale higher than 1, meant instant crash for me after loading (if it loads at all).
should get into BMS much. That is the best flight sim campaign you can play. It's a literal sandbox where you can enjoy whatever playstyle you want and see the world actually react to it. You can even control bits and pieces of (or the whole) ground war too - by ordering ground troops around which can change the battlefield situation dramatically.
My first online sim experience was with BMS, about 12 years ago. It was a small community server, running default Korea, perfect for testing the waters. Everybody was super friendly and supportive and it was just a great first experience! Eventually we had like 10 regular players, switched to Korea modern and tweaked all kinds of settings, to make the campaign not complete by itself (we didn't want to pause, because of TOD changes). For longer missions, someone came on hours in advance to prepare the package and tankers. In the evening we could "quickly" do all the 2D stuff and hop in. On weekdays we'd be a hand full of people, planning and flying some shorter missions. I highly recommend BMS, if you're willing to study a lot.
Your tutorials were a large inspiration for me doing my own, they are awesome and this one is as well, it's such a great explanation about the dynamic campaign!
AP, I played falcon years ago when it first came out and really didn’t know about BMS until I stumbled across your channel. I’m relearning everything and stop here first to learn something new. Thanks for the vids 🍻
This dynamic campaign is still 100% unique and literally nobody has ever been able to create a better one, in any sim. The closest was probably the old Enemy Engaged: Commanche vs Hokum sim but that dynamic campaign was much smaller in scale.. but it worked, sort of. Anyhow, Falcon 4 / BMS is an absolutely unique gem of a simulator and has never been surpassed over 25 years!!
1:46 The force ration sliders do not have any effect in BMS4.37 they are just heritage of the past. Long time ago it had effect on battalion / sq. size but currently all the 16 slots of a battalion are used.
Is my favorite part as well. I really enjoy only having to create a flight and wait and see what the campaign will be dish out to me when I am in the air.
You mentioned those 3 maps that are supported by the DC, however are there not some other theaters? Equivalent of Kola as I recall? Are those supported by a DC?
I don't have time to play depressingly (I only get 15 minutes of free time a day), can you start a full campaign playthrough? I'd like to experience how F4 has evolved since the 90s!
You can only fly BLUEFOR, but you're not limited to the F-16. There's also a full-fidelity F-15C, and you can fly pretty much any other jet - but with an F-16 cockpit
Question for the author (or other folks). I just completed my first campaign mission and post mission I trying to wait for HQ to give me another mission. However, i just see "planning" where you would choose your slot. Am I missing something stupid or just being too impatient? This happened after the 144FS Frag Order was complete
I am currently trying to get it to work on my potato notebook as a sort of rts, just ckntroling units toigh it is a hell of a lot of info too keep track of, but have some problems becaise the text stays small, doesnt matter which resolution setting i put in (am play 4.37), and it doenst seem to pass 30 minutes with me playing before it suddenly shuts off.
Hi, thanks for the video. Do you know whether having more aircrafts and new pilot joined is possible? Or are you and your squadron fucked if you run out of pilots and aircrafts?
You can always add more and reset the pilots with Mission Commander. After a while aircraft and pilots are added to your roster but it can take a while.
Are you using the full installer? Do you have the original Falcon 4.0 and when you do run it once and do not install BMS inside of the Falcon 4.0 folder.
@@Duvstep910 That's not my question.. I've flown the F-18 and its OK, good enough for some carrier missions. Obviously not DCS comparable, but its good enough for a 6$ F16 primary sim. My point is it would be a great idea to put out a video showcasing what other aircraft are available, and their current state, and how OFM plays vs what's available "stock" BMS. I've had a lot of fun in the F-4, even tho its jank as absolute fuck. It might be better to venture out and try stuff on your own. Either way for the red side it is better to use the default F-16 pit if you want it to be flyable. Being that the cockpits are not great and the lack of documentation of how to use it.
No change the dynamic campaign but there are changes to the AI, ATC and Tanker logic. Also improvements in the logic of AI wingman and the outcome parameters of your mission rating.
AP, have you ever checked using mission commander when HQ is unchecked then create your own mission. After that, put the HQ Controlled back again, check at the mission commander, the whole squadron's pilot exp will turn into thrash. If that still occur at 4.37.4, I just put my suggestion through you to tell the dev, it needs to be fixed. Cause somehow, we know some mission is suicide, so we as human create proper things by overide that, and put the HQ controlled back again. But then, the whole squadrons will turn trash (in my case, often they shoot my butt / friendly fire). But if you do reset the pilot exp via MC, boom, your squadrons perfoms normal again.
@@AviationPlus yep, to reproduce, try uncheck the HQ control, create single mission like BARCAP for example, then delete it, put back the HQ Control on, let the engine create mission, check your squadron pilot Exp, they all default into 4 if you choose ACE, and lower if not ACE. Compared to the other squadron that exclusively HQ control, they will vary between 40-60 (60 for the colonel). As far as I notice, this have a huge impact on the squadron performance. I'd rather fight 8 SU-35 solo because I expect they shoot at me than shoot at my butt by my AI squadron operating at the same area, when they affected by that low EXP pilot. I do always reset the pilot names, every single mission create at campaign to overcome this. 😅
Yes you can have it live in the background or have it pause when no human is connected. However timing is important because you can't stop it as a player it keeps going so make sure you give yourself enough time to brief before take off.
@@AviationPlus I misremembered. From the discussion I was trying to recall, it seems the BMS folks recommend ignoring the Force Ratio sliders and adjusting them indirectly via the Challenge Rating setting only. Challenge Rating also only affects the sliders and you will still have to set the skill levels manually in the other drop downs.
