That criss-cross tip on the wire counter wrap is a great idea. Thank you!
You're welcome! I picked that up from Tightline Productions. I forget what video of his, but I only ever saw him do it once.
Fish catching fly - I tied few after watching the video and it became my favorite stone fly imitation . Thank you for this video as well as all other videos you are posting much appreciated !
Nice pattern… gonna have to tie them too. See ya next month on the Pine
Great fly. I added CDC to the dubbing loop. Did well with your version and mine. Thank you.
Awesome! Glad you liked it. CDC is a nice addition for sure.
Nice videos man. You do a nice job with them. Very informative and I like how you don’t make things too difficult or technical. Keep it up man
Thanks a lot! I'm glad you like the videos and find them helpful.
I tied some last week and got 2 nice rainbow this morning. Thanks!
Nice work! You're welcome!
This is without fail my new stonefly pattern - thanks man!!!
You're welcome! It's a good one for sure.
Like that variation. Always interested in seeing what everyone else uses and ties. Thanks for sharing.
You're welcome! Glad you liked it.
Nicely done and excellent channel 👍
Your doing awesome. Quality and content is great. Keep going and you will keep growing subscribers.
Thanks a lot!
Great quality video man! Nice work
Thank you!
I tried this fly here in northern nevada, and have landed trout everytime I use it! Great pattern, is probly my favorite now too
That's awesome to hear! Glad you're finding success with it. 🎣
Thanks!!! I’m going to try t!
You're welcome! Let me know how it works out.
@@Brownsylvania for sure!
Great video & as someone commented in another vid you keep it precise and simple. I literally just started tying this week and I contact nymph & love jig hooks so all your videos will be used at some point. Tight lines.
Thank you man! Glad you find my videos helpful. Welcome to the tying community within fly fishing. haha
just subscribed
love the videos both fishing and tying
keep up the good work ive learned a lot
thx gus
Thanks for subscribing! Appreciate that.
Glad you find value through my videos.
Looks great! I'll give it a try.
Let me know how they do!
Nice fly! I tied a couple in size #12 with peacock hurl or the thorax. I tied 2 more with an orange bead as well. Can't wait to try them. I heard the orange bead really gets their attention as a Point fly! Nice video!
Hey man, would you add a playlist for all of your tying vids. You do a good job and i want to roll through your vids in an easy playlist format. Keep it up
Yup, if you go to my channel there should be a playlist called "Fly Tying Tutorials"
Here is the link to the playlist also: ua-cam.com/play/PLf5fQkMtiUeuFAm1JUDwV-vgzEEr1CRBZ.html
This pattern works well for me
haha Yeah it's a killer for sure!
I'd fish it. Love the name!
haha Tie some up and let me know how they work!
Another beauty 👌🏻👍🏻
Thanks!
Nice video. I tied up some of the stoned pheasant tails. And I like them. I thinking of doing some other stoneflies and glo bugs. Would you also recommend those and what other patterns would y suggest I tie up for eastern pa streams
Awesome man! Let me know how they work for you. I like biot and rubber legs stonefly patterns as well. Glo bugs are a good egg pattern too. I think both of those and any of the other patterns I've tied here on my channel would all be great for eastern PA.
nice pattern. I'm having a little trouble in the size 10 getting my Pheasant tail segments long enough to wrap the body to the eye. I;m using Hareline Ringneck PT feathers and its the same in all colors. 14,16 no problem but it seems the 10 is your major size. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Thanks! Definitely make sure you're using the longest fibers you can find and the more fibers you use the less wraps you have to make because they take up a wider area on the hook shank.
Reminds me a lot of a euro pheasant tail that a lot of people use. I think I have a few dozen of it in my boxes
Yeah for sure. It's nothing new or special, but I like to share my takes on the flies I use and my thought process. Thanks for watching!
@@Brownsylvania I agree with you there. Like josh miller’s zone stone is a good example of a stupid simple stone fly that catches fish. I tied the better part of a few dozen in like 2 hours.
Also the fly patterns I end up "coming up with" are mostly based on my experience with what aspects of other flies seem to work best and such, but I do realize a lot of these patterns have already been made/used by someone else. The only difference is I never saw them used by someone else and ended up coming up with them by myself.
@@Brownsylvania makes sense bud. A lot of the nymphs I use are other patterns that we just play around with and find something that works. My pine squirrel terror streamer was a combo of a slump buster and a head banger sculpin and made something of my own and the fish approved
That's the best part. Making something of your own and catching fish on it.
What do you think of orientsun hooks? I have read they break. What has been your experience with them? thanks for sharing.
I have yet to have one break. Love them!
I use the heavy guage wire ones though from TacticalFlyFisher.com
It's easy to see what makes the black version a blk. stonefly. In fact it is almost exactly what I tie, only I tie black ones in size 14 or 16. From the picture, it's difficult to see what you change to make the yellow one. Great videos. Keep em coming.
For the yellow one I use pheasant tail dyed yellow and golden brown hare's ear dubbing. Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed.
Can you provide the other materials list for the other 2 varient of this fly?
The others are either gold or black wire for the rib, yellow or black pheasant tail fibers for the tail and body, black or golden brown hare's ear dubbing or squirrel for the thorax and a gold or black nickel bead. Hope that helps!
Hey being from PA like me maybe you know this answer. Delayed harvest/ fly fish only areas are being stocked much earlier(2-14 thru 3-1) this year. Can you fish them the time they are stocked or can you only fish April 3 in those sections?
That's a good question! Yes, delayed harvest areas can be fished year round - even right after they are stocked, but I would read the PA Fish & Boat rules to bring yourself up to date with all the latest regulations.
@@Brownsylvania yeah i thought so but with covid wasnt sure if that changed thanks alot dude
You're welcome!
What’s the name of your Etsy shop? I know you’ve mentioned you have one. Thanks
It's just Brownsylvania. The link is in my video description as well. Thanks for watching!
Just wandering did you ever try this tie with goose biots for the tail?
Funny you ask. I do have some of this exact pattern with goose biot tails. They work just as good, but that's why I find it's easier to just tie in pheasant for the tail.
@@Brownsylvania i found you by accident and I am very glad I did
haha Thanks! How did you find me?
@@Brownsylvania just looking for pennsylvania flyfishing or fly tying
Where in pa are you located if you don't mind me asking
Any for sale? LMK
Not during the spring season. I'm too busy to keep up with the orders. Once summer rolls around I'll start selling them again.
Thx, they look great!!
Thank you!
What is old is new again. Your pattern, minus the jig hook, which wasn't around them, is the same fly as a pattern described by Don Bastain, the well- known PA tier (especially of the old Bergman wet flies) probably 40 years ago. Don admitted that it probably wasn't original with him, either. He called it the "Harey Rooster" since it was the back half of a PT (which is a cock pheasant tail, hence the 'rooster") and the front half of a shaggy Hare's Ear. He ties them in 4 colors, with and without beads, including your rusty brown version, a natural hare's ear thorax, along with olive, and black. These have been great flies for me over the years. The black one, which is a great pattern for the little black stone fly nymph, is in my top 2 flies for steelhead, and they've caught a lot of trout as well. Not a criticism of your thinking at all, just to note that so much in fly fishing and tying stands on the shoulders of those that came before us.
Love your channel and videos, which are outstanding.
I totally agree. Not much is actually new to fly fishing that someone else hasn't already done or been doing. Thanks for watching and glad you like the channel!
