      Me too, well I'm 45. I skated and later picked up riding after my skater friend picked up "Head First" Matt Hoffman's video. Dave and Matt hands down where who I looked up to when riding. Back in the day when the sprockets where huge and frames began spitting out with those "lumps" on the underside for bash-guards lol.

    Dave Mirra was the nicest guy I have ever met.
    I met him at a stop in Lawrenceville Ga. I was nobody important, I wasnt with anyone important and I asked Dave Mirra for an autograph for my nephew (I was also a big fan). He treated me like I was his best friend and we hung out and talked for about an hour. Nicest guy I have ever met.
    I have met some other famous athletes like Tony Hawk, Rob Nolli, Scott Byerly etc. all of them were nice but I always felt like a fan around them but Dave made me feel like a friend.

    I will always remember the day that Dave Mirra showed up at the local skate park in Switzerland me and my friend frequently visited as teens back in the days.
    My friend and I were lucky enough to be there and what started as a disappointing day because some skateboarders stole my friends cap out of spite because we were inline skating "in their park" turned out to be a fantastic session we had with Dave and memories I will cherish for the entirety of my life.
    Out of nowhere came Dave and asked my friend why he's so bummed. He told Dave what happened and without any hesitation he gave away his cap as a gift. We had the pleasure to talk to him for some time while most of the skateboarders didn't even recognize him.
    We were super exited when he told us that he would love to ride with us in that massive wooden bowl that's in that park. I will never forget the moment I did a Royale Grind and Dave jumped over me doing a Tuck No Hander.
    We watched him riding that bowl in awe until he left the place.
    Even though we did a different sport Dave was always a huge inspiration for me. He showed the world that there are other actions sports out there than skateboarding and exceptional athletes can be found in every sport.
    For me he first and foremost was an ambassador of having fun while doing a sport that you love.
    Thank you Dave for those memories and for beeing such a great person, you will always be remembered by kids all around the world.

    I had the pleasure of meeting Dave Mirra when he attended the Bike show 2004 in Birmingham 🇬🇧I was 14 years old and had not long started competing as a pro. There was supposed to be 4 riders in the group but 2 pulled out last minute. So Me and Dave shared the course, still to this day this is one of the best experiences of my life. R.i.p Dave your memory will live on forever.

We thought we were cool and didn't wanna wear helmets but dave and mat hoffman always wore their fullfaces... Its just weird because Dave didn't fall alot either... He was the miracle boy. Ive gotten 10 concussions that ended my bmx career. And I never wore a helmet that wasnt the *cool* thing to do.

      Suicide defies and derails more than you do in life because it affects those that LOVE you. You can be any SUPERSTAR, but you leave behind the biggest losers like children and lovers and the rest of the fam, you gotta be so careful ... I just hope the views go to the real heroes in this story. The survivors that loved him, his blood family.

    • @PatrickKaplin
      @PatrickKaplin 6 років тому +41

      I wish they would’ve talked about the suicide in this. Suicide has such stigma in society, as if we can’t really talk about it. It’s important to discuss, because maybe those people feeling suicidal tendencies could learn that it’s ok. That there are ways to combat it and that people are willing to listen. RIP Mirra, you inspired generations.
