1309 seems to be making easy work of these trains, I'm sure they aren't eager to test her limits, but I can't help wondering just how many cars she could pull up that mountain un assisted. I know these C&O mallets were built to haul coal in WV so I guess it makes sense that passenger cars really don't hold her back at all. I grew up watching 734 pull trains up that line and I could tell she really worked hard, so seeing how 1309 does it with ease makes me appreciate how strong she is.
What a beautiful locomotive. Nice to see steam engines without diesel helpers for braking, it looks so much more natural.

Is the whistle off a NYC Hudson? It's quite different hearing it on a large articulated, but surprisingly good!
Should probably get as many steam locos operational as possible... Probably have to be using them alot in the near future.
Personally, I think the 6 chime suits the 1309. I love the Hooter but this whistle has a more booming sound which sounds much better.
