    Great piloting and a great landing. Soon I will be rid of my evil hard centre TM WH stick and able to fly the IL-2 with pride with a WarBRD and T-50 grip, can't wait.. Just started a PWCG campaign with the 62nd and we are flying this aircraft.

      Thanks Skipper :-) I'm jealous as the Virpil stuff looks to be high quality gear!

      Thanks Haurdead, I'll be doing my best to keep them coming as fast as possible. I'm still on reserve at my airline so I only get 11 days off at home right now which is why I try and do everything video wise, except the flying, on my laptop out in New York.
      I just try and ensure the quality stays high instead of just popping them out willy nilly with no production/learning value, anyone can do that! :-)

      I plan on it Col Klink, just wanted to get some BFM videos out before more aircraft familiarisations.

    How do you keep your plane so straight on takeoff?

    • @RequiemsACTL
      @RequiemsACTL  7 років тому +4

      Hi Luxi, the easiest way to keep straight is to smoothly increase power. By doing this it helps reduce the abruptness of any turning tendencies which means your rudder adjustments work better because those end up being small and smooth too. If you just firewall it on takeoff then that creates very strong turning tendencies at a slow airspeed that requires you to make larger rudder adjustments, and if you don't get them perfect then you end up with a wobbly takeoff line.

    Great stuff. There is one thing I never understood: what do the water/oil/cowl shuters actually cool?

    • @RequiemsACTL
      @RequiemsACTL  7 років тому +1

      Hi Leon, I see in the IL-2 forum you already have some replies that have covered it a bit... it does depend on engine design though.
      Their function is basically about regulating the amount of air flow to help cool water, oil, and the engine in general. The hotter a liquid is the less efficient it will be at dissipating heat from areas that need it. So for example the oil takes heat and particles away from the engine (which are filtered out), then it is exposed to the cold air from the outside which cools the oil down before sending the oil back to the engine to repeat the process. If you close up a radiator/shutter completely it will minimise the amount of airflow available to for cooling, and if you don't get enough airflow to dissipate heat properly, you end up with the overheating situations that cause engine damage.
      That's about as straightforward as I can make it.

      Thanks. They are basically just liquid based heat sinks.

    Hs129 next? ;)

      Not quite yet Jakub, although I have the manuals for the HS-129 I'm going to get some other stuff out I've been working on first :) The HS-129 and the Spitfire will probably be the first couple of familiarisations I'll work on for Kuban though.
