It seems like the information in this video was given in the order that they should be done, but it doesn't seem to make sense to apply the adhesion promoter and then abrade the surface. Is that was 3M suggests? Adhesion promoter and THEN sand the surface?
Would this work well on painted metal roof or would I need to sand it down to metal finish? My plan is to VHB tape two lengths of unistrut and connect a solar panel to avoid adding holes to my shed's roof.
Hi Ric, 3M VHB tapes have heat resistance ranging from 200 to 450 °F (93 to 230 °C). Temperature resistance for each tape family is detailed here: www.ellsworth.com/globalassets/literature-library/manufacturer/3m/3m-brochure-vhb-tapes-design-guide.pdf Our team of Glue Doctors® can help you find the right product for your application: www.ellsworth.com/resources/ask-the-glue-doctor/
Hello, Thank you very much for this video. Quick Question: Could I use ethyl instead of IPA? or there will be some drawbacks? Several people also suggest spraying IPA on a tape prior to adhesion since it gives them the time to readjust the position of the working surface and tape. Is it a good idea, or it might weaken the adhesive properties of tape? (could I spread with ethyl alcohol for the same reason?)
my RV roof is fiberglass, but has a kind of pebble finish. Will the two tape work well on finish that isn't as perfectly smooth? I want to install flex solar panels. Let us know please.
Can you please tell me the model number, thickness, and width plus brand name and part number of the best tape you have discovered for this application. There hundreds of different tapes, sizes, types etc. Thank you much!

Can a hang a hand pump sprayer from the side of my laminate garage cabinets by using VHB on a steel L shaped hanger? The pump sprayer weighs 4 lbs empty and about 8 lbs full. Thanks.
yes you can...clean the surface as described, and use a little adhesion promotor as well as a little heat and you will be fine...added pressure is the key too
Hi Jeanette, IPA is an acronym for Isopropyl Alcohol, sometimes referred to as rubbing alcohol. It is often used as a disinfectant in medical or manufacturing applications.
Hi Goldwin, Isopropyl alcohol has a high concentration of alcohol which provides antibacterial properties. We would recommend using isopropyl alcohol or acetone to ensure the best results.
This man is tape god

You’d want to sand the surface, clean it then follow through with adhesion promoter right before applying tape

What would be the best solution to reapplying smooth chrome Harley Davidson tank badges.
If you’re bonding a flange to a tank how do you make the place where the tape meets waterproof ie on corners or on a circular flange

Sorry what is IPA , more details please
Hi Jeanette,
IPA is an acronym for Isopropyl Alcohol, sometimes referred to as rubbing alcohol. It is often used as a disinfectant in medical or manufacturing applications.
YOU MUST WARM THE TAPE IF YOU WANT IT TO BOND FOR LONG TIME
You DON'T need to do this.
Thank you I already knew that but I was just looking for confirmation which this man did not provide
What is the difference between isopropyl alcohol and alcohol? Can I use regular alcohol? Because I'm not familiar with isopropyl alcohol.
Hi Goldwin,
Isopropyl alcohol has a high concentration of alcohol which provides antibacterial properties. We would recommend using isopropyl alcohol or acetone to ensure the best results.
Isopropyl alcohol is the kind you get in the first aid section of a drug store/pharmacy.

I bought 60mm circles and the red does not release! make a video of that impossible to use product !!!
I guess for plastic on plastic you have to use a primer? Even with scuffing and alcohol to both surfaces...this shit just don't stick for me.
I have the same issues with plastics before. It works when I apply rubber cement glue on the plastic, let dry then apply the 3m tape.
Abrading, really you couldn't just said scuffing.
