Microsoft fumbling PC gaming for so long, that Valve had to develop a standalone OS built on an entirely different architecture and succeeding, getting users to develop their own in-house PC builds people to want to use on their PCs, and Microsoft having no answer will never not amaze me. Not even an Xbox Mode for PC. It’s impressive how little they try.
My ROG ally is my PC and a very easy to use hand held, all u need is a dock and a monitor I'm happy I'm not locked to an interface like consoles, mutah just has a weird hard on for Linux or whatever UI tge steam deck has
I am astounded by Microsoft's missed opportunity to leverage its Xbox technology for the advancement of gaming. They have so much potential yet to explore and I hope they realize this sooner rather than later to keep up in the gaming industry competition.

I've been saying this for so long and I'm glad to hear you say it too!! An Xbox handheld that had the Xbox front end but a desktop mode that's in the background like steam OS would be a serious competitor with the steam deck, and hopefully force them to wanna do better. One thing I hope becomes common in the next generation is dock options with built in GPUs and SSD. This would make it the ultimate handheld to desktop experience. A little bit more power at home for certain higher end games you wanna play, but you could still play them anywhere if you wanted to, or leave the big files saved to your Dock so you have more storage for your handheld device. Currently the Ally and Legion Go support external GPU options but not steam deck. I'm hoping they'll consider this for the next version.
Oh that explains a lot. No wonder why I couldn't get the Steam OS from valve to boot up properly past the install. I'll have to look into those projects and give one a try sometime.
I got myself the steam deck oled awhile back and I am really liking, not only for its gaming prowess, but I also like to watch movies and anime shows whenever I hook it up to my TV!
@@batty5265it plays very nice. I have rdr2 on my steam deck and whenever I have it docked, I have it running fsr balanced scaled to 1080p and it ranges from 30-60fps and it’s crazy
@@batty5265it rubs most games well but struggles with the high graphic games such as the new ratchet and clank game, it’ll run and play but the deck gets really hit and you can tell it’s struggling. I can play elden ring smooth with no issues. Baldurs gate 3 works great. You do have to play some games at 30 fps but I absolutely love mine, I actually have shifted to using my steamdeck as my main device now just out of the convenience of being able to play while watching tv.

This is an interesting take, i used to have a microsoft developer account on my xbox, and it allowed me to run windows 10 applications on my xbox, would be super interesting if microsoft allowed this outside of a developer sandbox mode
Both “next gen” consoles are just mini PCs just with more restrictions and less things to do with them. At that point just buy a PC at the same price and you’ll have more options to play your games. (Also cheaper in the long run)
I’m also interested in a video on a device that is portable and can stream the pcs display like a steam link. All of the apps for chrome stick, Roku, fire, etc have too much input delay to feel usable for gaming and I don’t want to move my chunky PC each time I want to sit on my couch. My steam link also recently died and Steam could do nothing
The only crossover I would care about is if Forza ever came to PS. It would make my life easier recording both, and I’d probably never buy an Xbox again

Edge on Xbox is also the full blown browser as well. The only thing it’s missing is extensions but everything else you could possibly do on a browser it will do.

On the extra features front, we do have to give the PS3 credit for being a gaming system and also the cheapest blu ray player on the market at one point.

I don’t understand why they don’t do this. When I bought the original Xbox was because I thought this was the case. It did use pretty standard PC parts But it wasn’t a “compact PC”.

As long as the 780m e.g. in Z1e / 7740U vs 8845HS is not starved in power then 900p plus nearest neighbour upscaling is king. In steam game mode / gamescope you simply set internal and external game window resolution to 900p and set upscaling to not use FSR1 but nearest neighbour. A 1440p screen is required to not have an ugly result like pre 2016 reviewers hating on upscaling.
I agree with Muta on his steam deck stance. I got a steam deck because I run deliveries from restaurants and sometimes the food prep part takes forever. The steam deck is my go to when orders are taking a long time or I dont want to fire up my gaming pc. The steam deck is why I have even beaten any games this year considering I work two jobs.

Hey Muta, I'm not a big tech bro or anything of of the sort, I usually watch your more tech related videos on the background and forget everything that you said 2 minutes after the video is done. But this time something you said caught my attention, the fact that many steam deck like devices don't have a custom interface to use like consoles or the steam deck; I say this caught my attention due to the focus you put on how important this is to the user experience and how recently here in Brazil the Zeenix (another steam deck adjecent) got anounced and it has a built in custom console-like interface while running on Windows. I found interesting that people here don't seem to care about that fact, but that may be the key to making it begginer friendly here in Brazil compared to other similar imported devices, although at the end of the day the price of it will mostly define it's success here and they strangely didn't ananounce it yet.

9:40 On compatible hardware(not many devices) you can install the steamOS image meant for the Steamdeck without modifying the image itself, works almost flawlessly on my beelink SER6 Pro (7735HS which is Zen3+ and RDNA2) I think the main issue i have is that it doesnt see my SATA drive which is a large 4TB samsing SSD.

Maybe Xbox shouldn't have decided that forcing players to use a gaming console with internet was a good thing. Ever since Xbox 1, their sales have gone down. They did this to themselves. And now they wanna up the price of their gamepass cos they're too stupid to stop themselves from buying big gaming companies that they're struggling to offput the costs for. On top of that, they don't even make physical games actually physical anymore. Half the game isn't even on the disc.
PC gaming isn't just expensive. it's also a pain in the ass for average people. I've had so many BS problems occur for games on my PC that sometimes it takes hours for me to fix. By the time I do fix it, im annoyed and dont even want to play the game anymore.
Honestly I'm in the same boat a Muddahar I literally don't play any games on my computer just work stuff and play games on the steam deck or legion go.

I tried chimeraOS on a 2009 Mac Pro with a 6600 plugged into it. It’s amazing how steam’s UI turned that into a power hungry game console. Played through half of Spider-Man remastered on it.
Consoles are outdated now imo, it's time they get rid of that obscure concept and just start going down the Steam Deck route, which is basically affordable mini handheld pcs.

The ps5 does have a browser it's just hidden and not easy to access unfortunately.
It's nothing compared to the browser on Xbox. Literally the Wii U browser is even better or Safari on iOS.

But this time something you said caught my attention, the fact that many steam deck like devices don't have a custom interface to use like consoles or the steam deck; I say this caught my attention due to the focus you put on how important this is to the user experience and how recently here in Brazil the Zeenix (another steam deck adjecent) got anounced and it has a built in custom console-like interface while running on Windows.
I found interesting that people here don't seem to care about that fact, but that may be the key to making it begginer friendly here in Brazil compared to other similar imported devices, although at the end of the day the price of it will mostly define it's success here and they strangely didn't ananounce it yet.

Great idea! Make it have gamepass and all the games you own, plus backwards compatibility games :) Although I have a feeling an xbox handheld is already in the making. After how well the Steam Deck has done, I wouldn't be surprised if they have the Surface people working on it with some tech guys from xbox. Wasn't there also a rumor earlier this year about one to? I don't know if they will do it properly though, I guess time will tell.

9:40 On compatible hardware(not many devices) you can install the steamOS image meant for the Steamdeck without modifying the image itself, works almost flawlessly on my beelink SER6 Pro (7735HS which is Zen3+ and RDNA2) I think the main issue i have is that it doesnt see my SATA drive which is a large 4TB samsing SSD.

I don't think xbox will ever go down but I agree with you, always thought they should make a handheld after I bought the HP Xbox tablet thinking that's what it was, also always thought they should make the xbox into a xbox gaming PC so you can play xbox games but also play PC games or at least download the steam app just to open your choices to strictly PC games, never made sense we couldn't play PC games when they run on windows?, also I'd love to just hook my oculue up to expand on some games even if it was just xbox games, I don't know what happened to that as oculus and xbox were meant to be making a app for you to wirelessly play xbox games on oculus but it never happened, we only have 3rd party apps but obviously if they did what they said it could have been a lot crazier.

I only game on PC, and once in a blue moon I'll hop on my phone or my Switch, but nobody can deny that a proper Xbox handheld would go hard for the people who'd be interested.

Maybe Xbox shouldn't have decided that forcing players to use a gaming console with internet was a good thing. Ever since Xbox 1, their sales have gone down. They did this to themselves. And now they wanna up the price of their gamepass cos they're too stupid to stop themselves from buying big gaming companies that they're struggling to offput the costs for. On top of that, they don't even make physical games actually physical anymore. Half the game isn't even on the disc.
Microsoft could just ship an xbox as a pc package with ms office and sell it for 500 and almost every company would buy it
PC gaming isn't just expensive. it's also a pain in the ass for average people. I've had so many BS problems occur for games on my PC that sometimes it takes hours for me to fix. By the time I do fix it, im annoyed and dont even want to play the game anymore.

You know, I keep hearing rumblings and rumours of Microsoft/Xbox working on a dedicated Xbox handheld that's more than just PlayStation's glorified streaming... thing. Every time someone brings this up to Phil Spencer, he always plays coy with such a thing. Not that we all should be taking Phil's word with any grain of salt anymore. Also, I could use a bit of advice. Say if I want to upgrade my gaming laptop to run on Linux. Right now, I have an Acer Predator Helios 500. Not the most powerful but it is beefy enough but I want to strip out Windows 10 cause it's starting to irritate me at this point. What would be the most ideal Linux distro to run on that particular gaming laptop or any? Can it be done?

I tried chimeraOS on a 2009 Mac Pro with a 6600 plugged into it. It’s amazing how steam’s UI turned that into a power hungry game console. Played through half of Spider-Man remastered on it.
