Hello guys and gals, it's me Mutahar again! This time we take a look at what appears to be a situation where plenty of "gaming" versions of Windows are being freely distributed on UA-cam, these are some of the sketchiest downloads I've seen in all my time and it's high time UA-cam step in, but before that can happen it's best to educate why you should never install an operating system unless you get it right from the source. Thanks for watching!

Hi, Atlas co-owner and developer here. At 16:15, I want to clarify that this is only for the Playbook install process (to prevent Defender from slowing down or otherwise false-flagging AME Wizard's Playbook runner, which is open source), and next restart Windows will auto-enable Defender if you didn't select to disable it in the Atlas options. At 18:06, I want to clarify that the checkbox is only for auto-updates and that the user can update manually if they disable it. With manual updates, users will get notifs for updates if they don't disable them. We agree that Microsoft making a ‘debloated’ install of Windows accessible to everyone would be amazing. Still, we intend Atlas to be the best modification out there, and that’s why we’ve made various things like the security customizable.

I used to be a huge Windows fanboi. In fact, I used to mock Linux and Linux users saying "The only reason why they love it so much is because when they finally get it running they have no choice but to love it due to the sunken cost." I had to eat my words and swallow my pride when someone finally convinced me to give it a try after I saw how shitty Windows 8 was. I don't have a single Windows computer anymore anywhere in my house, everything's running Linux, and I've built my business on developing Linux server software. Good to see that other people might get the same experience I had, but with Windows 11.
Once windows 10 is done I'm going to be moving over the Linux due to the subscription model that Microsoft is going with. Windows died with 8 and while you can make 10 80% like 7 it's not the same. There's only like 2 games that might not work on Linux that I truly care about (and a bunch of older games) but I rather have something that won't ask for money and show me ad's every 30 seconds like what 11 is more then likely going to become.
The only part is getting the ability to make it happen due to my deep technological knowledge lol.

@@Walamonga1313 yeah that's one important thing i need to know, I really want to switch to linux, the extreme amount of customization and stuff it has is great, plus the 10000x less ram it uses compared to w11 but I don't see too many games with linux ports and there's no way i'm switching over to linux if I can't play some games.
Presumably a vm is how it's done, but i'm wondering if there's another way, since I think i'd find it kind of annoying to have to start up a windows vm whenever i want to play something
Linux users are the vegans of the IT space, and this comment is a prime example of the fact.
@@jonaut5705 Aside from games that use pretty invasive anti cheats, most should work fine out of the box on Steam using Proton. Proton is Steam's personalized version of Wine, which is a compatibility layer that translates Windows API calls into Linux API calls. Most games I tried actually run quite well under Proton, even though they are games made for Windows.
You can also just use Wine directly if you want (or need to run something without using Steam), it is just more annoying to setup properly and will might require some fine tuning depending on what you are running while Proton pretty much just needs you to enable it and it will mostly just work out of the box.
Again, aside from games that use invasive anti cheats (which refuse to adapt to and/or accept Linux), running games on Linux is really not as hard or annoying as most people assume it is.

6:01 Mutahar I love your channel and watch your videos frequently but this is not the "worst tech advise on UA-cam" TechYesCity did a whole video about ghost spectre and did a deep system analysis and found nothing harmful, he even goes to say at the end of the video its comparative of his own win 10 custom ISO he uses on his own and client machines. I have personally used it for a whole year for just gaming on my older PC and worked great w/ no issues.
15:19 there already is a light version of Windows 10 and 11 they are called LTSC edition... Its is literally on their website and there is even a FREE trial to use it. But I do agree they need to amp up their game and have a dedicated desktop gaming OS like SteamOS.
19:54 Yes this is really bad to download a custom ISO of windows, but you fail to mention that Ghost Spectre and other custom OS have tools to let you verify the hash files, Atlas and Revi OS both instruct you to download the ISO directly from Microsoft.
21:15 Yes most people who use these custom OS are on low end systems, nobody is saying to use these to login to your bank account, its just for gaming and Atlas's code is open source, you can read what each line of code does for your PC. It is very similar to the code/tools you show at the end of the video
26:50 Not only FPS but system stability stopping those annoying windows updates, oh and bypass the windows 11 minimum system requirements for older hardware. You talk a lot about Atlas in this video but did not mention at all Revision OS which has the same goal as Atlas but without breaking anything , the end result is super smooth OS that can be used as a daily driver for both gaming and productivity.

Glad someone mentioned LTSC, it's really the only usable first-party option these days and I wish more people knew about it. Haven't found a good way to get legit individual licenses for it, though. Do you know of any?
Mutahar has been mixing kiddie horror with IT for a good while now. It's slop and straight up misinformation.
I've been using Ghost Spectre (both W10 and W11) for years, downloaded from the right source - no issues whatsoever.
"it was filmed at my mom's house" 😂

Ghost spectre is frequently audited, I have been using it for 2 years as a second install for minor things that don't work on my Linux side (Adobe) (Maya). I looked and there is no suspicious traffic there are no weird changes to the registry side of things. It's quite clean but it's like muta said, always trust what you're downloading don't take my word for it. I will however not be using ISOs down the like I was a little dumber a couple years ago to have done that. Next time I'll probably use a script like Atlas or something well known open source and audited on a a genuine windows iso just to avoid anything that could very well be hiding deep in there.
THANK YOU. It felt like Muta completely missed the bar with nuance. Like not all custom OS builds are equal. It really boils down to due your due diligence. I chose spectre for the same reason, not for my main build but its still amazing. @@Superlegofighter101 i don't know much about this release, but i know what they're usually for, and how they usually work. this guy's advice is 1- click bait, he wants views,

it's actually pretty simple to install a light version of windows using the original ISO from Microsoft, via the automated install features, you can just exclude everything to be installed but the bare bones. and poof, there you go. so "technically" Microsoft does offer this indirectly be allowing installs to be manipulated before they are installed in the first place.

tbh these ios are really bad, but they are affecting other good custom OS projects like RevisionOS, which’s not even an iso but an open source playbook which debloats and makes the windows experience much much better, i’ve used it for the past 1 years with an i9400f and a gtx 1050ti and it’s running really fast
Tiny11 is decent too, at least in my experience
Chris Titus’s power shell utility is a pretty good all in one tool for reducing some bloat and tweaking a windows install
It's the best option if you worried about security
It really is the best, because Chris Titus actually works in IT and knows when to not remove something just because it's deemed as "bloat". You don't need much more on a fresh install.
Just get the official OS distro and debloat it yourselves..
I am 4 days into my Linux Journey. Running Mjnt. While I have a lot to learn, I’ve been able to play some of the games I want and run my DAW of choices REAPER. Input devices, WiFi and printer just worked. Very impressed

If Linux:
- supported all games (Epic Games and Steam)
- could run all exe's/programs
...I would switch over. But I tried last year and had so many walls I ran into: couldn't run SQL Server, Visual Studio, Photoshop, Fortnite, certain Steam games,... Sure, there's alternatives for these programs, but I needed them for college.
If you're not just browsing the web and checking emails, going to Linux is hard.
Request @SomeOrdinaryGamers: please make an OS for us that is not bloated and can run everything. TempleOS but for the gamers.
same but plus fedora dont support my wifi driver so i am stuck on Windows at least for now ... but i play on console so the game compatibility is not a issue for me.
If Zbrush can run on Linux, I would've moved to it on my main PC long ago.
But for now, Zbrush is hella cursed on Linux.
I am a pro when it comes to making Windows Faster. I made w whole list of things with multiple sites on all the stuff you have to do to make Windows much faster. I did this to friends and family PCs and now they run much better. :)) It is also why I won't switch to linux too. I do have a friend that makes custom Windows Versions but I focus on plain Windows.
I just wanna thanks Muta for inspiring making me more and more into tech. I finally built my own pc cuz of him and its great. Not the greatest specs but better than the laptop I had.
Honestly from windows all I want is a search function that isn’t complete ass. Apple gets clowned on all day, but one thing they did right was make an actually useful search
Second this. So sick and tired of seeing "No files match your search" after I accidentally didn't put spaces in between every single word when I saved a file.
Can't remember how, but you can disable internet searching in the win11 search bar by registry editing. Should come up just by googling 'how to disable internet searches in search bar'

I absolutely loved the idea of a "gutted" windows that I have more control over. I wish there was a legitimate and safe way to do this. The fact that I have to tell my operating system to not disturb me is insane to me. I don't want or need any notifications at all on my desktop. If I want to check my mail I will check my mail, and there is absolutely no news about anything I need from Microsoft.
Every time there's a Windows update I worry what they've changed. What new **** are they gonna put in front of me that I don't want? Is this a new privacy concern? Is this an ad? I hate it a lot.
Back in Russia i saw a lot of people using "custom builds" of Windows, which were actually just regular windows with some software preinstalled, including windows activator, and with a ton features that the author deemed "useless" removed, and also i remember how often my friends had problems with those because always something broke because some component of windows needed by a certain program is just not there anymore, and you can't even restore it properly. Especially often i saw builds by "OVGorskiy" who everybody called "OVGovnovskiy", because "Govno" means "Shit" in russian and his builds were exactly that. But i would say that the only Windows worth using are LTSC builds by Microsoft themselves, recently Windows 11 LTSC came out officialy, and it's not bad. Most of crap removed, except copilot and defender, both can be disabled. You can't get those builds easily from microsoft though, only evaluation versions, but you can easily find them on internet archive
As someone with dying hardware, and as someone who actively used a 2009 Phenom CPU all the way up until 2020, I completely get why people feel the need to do this, but for real, never install Windows unless you got it straight from the source, and never run programs that basically gut your system for the purpose of "gaming." I completely agree that Microsoft should sell "lite" versions of their own operating systems. Shame that'll never actually happen tho
You can easily avoid this by not installing windows 11 at all
We getting doxed with this one 🗣🗣🗣🔥🔥🔥🔥
Honestly if one of these debloat tools was open source & we could verify it wasn't malicious it could be very useful for ordinary users. Cutting out the unnecessary stuff Microsoft runs by default is a legitimate need.
Ghost specter is pretty good actually. I use it on my music laptop and i personally think it runs a lot better & smoother.
You may have missed the plot, or you're just a very brave soul
I've used it too and had similar results, but would never run it on a system I was gonna do my banking and shit on either
@@shantyguyGhost Spectre is great!
i've been using it for a while. literally saved my pc from a windows update that hated my gpu drivers and totally screwed me over. spectre is legit.
@@shantyguy No, no. YOU missed the point of the video. Muta takes antivirus sponsor after bashing antivirus in the past. Then proceeds to fearmonger all custom OS builds. Spectre is audited, not saying it doesn't have issues and there may be something buried deep deep down inside. But the point of the video is DUE YOUR DUE DILIGENCE. Downloading stuff randomly off the internet is NEVER the way to do it. Not all custom OS' are built equally.

It's a shame that Microsoft doesn't sell Windows 11 LTSC to consumers. This is the bloat-free version of Windows that everyone is looking for but you cannot officially buy or download the OS from Microsoft unless you are some massive company.
Piracy exists
The main problem is third parties tampering with these customized OSs. It's a vessel to distribute malware under the name of the original creator. E.g. the original Ghost Spectre is assumed to be safe, since no one has ever noticed any malpractices going on, but there's so many channels distributing the OS under Ghost Spectre's name that you just can't be sure. Only download something if you are 100% certain it is safe or if you have EVERYTHING backed up.
Why are you taking antivirus sponsors after repeatedly saying they're useless?

I thought he was fine with malware and virus protection just uncomfortable with VPNs.
Microsoft actually does make a lite version of Windows 10/11 (Enterprise LTSC and IoT Enterprise LTSC) because some businesses and governments have actual standards for performance, security, and reliability that the enshittified slop they make the rest of us use can't live up to.

As a person:
1) who used laptop from 2010 till 1 month ago with Intel Pentium CPU + integrated GPU
2) tried many gaming ISOs and playbook(both Atlas and Revision)
3) experienced distrohopper as well(tried around 30 and each of them was tested both for gaming/daily use and development)
I can say:
The Good, The Bad, The Ugly
First, with "The Bad". I would like to talk about Linux gaming. Well, for hardware that is 2016+, it might be as a real option but there is not that much you can do when your GPU is intel integrated that barely handles DirectX 10 and OpenGL support is 2.1. With such options, not only OpenGL, also Vulkan doesn't work at all. Even OpenGL games didn't open due low OpenGL version. So, we remove this as an option. (Now I hear you saying "Oh, get urself some money bruh" and I did. That is why I got a new laptop now. But it took sooooooo long)
PS: Don't get me wrong. I love Linux and have been using it as daily drive for 6 years. And even now sticking with WSL(waiting for my warranty to end so I can mess this laptop up with Linux. You know, Asus is bitch when it comes to warranty.)
Second, about "The Good" scripts: Yes, indeed they work at some point and actually do something for making game less laggy. But they are not deeply useful. I personally had this experience and GOD FUCKING HELP YOU WITH REMOVING MICROSOFT EDGE(I FUCKING HATE YOU MICROSOFT) WITH A GOD DAMN SCRIPT! It is technically impossible. It is not only Edge. There were many things but I forgot since last I went hard on OS testing was 2022. We mark this option as "possible" but not effective as customized OS
Third and final "The Ugly": ISOs/PlayBook.
They actually work. They really do. But as said in the video, they might be shady. It is like, having official dealer with high prices and corner side dealer that has things for 30% cheaper. Now, they are not "virused/backdoored" as was told in the video. Some might be, but bigger ones such Atlas and Revision(aka Revi) are pretty stable and clean. And disabling antivirus is required cuz Windows Defender might detect it as malware/ransomwhere which interrupts the installation and even can cause your OS being unusable or booting. Currently, from many ISO testings, I clearly and securely recommend these 2 and tiny11 for your but tiyn11 will be overkill for you. Before talking about them, gotta say something: They both break couple things to gain more frames and making it more stable. Atlas ISO and playbook was strictly for gaming and nothing else. So, I didn't stay there so long since I am also a software dev. So, I moved on to Revi. And holly mother of Jesus. It was hella stable + perfectly fine for all purpose usage and indeed was the least self-advertising thing I have ever seen. I could do both gaming pretty stable, some 1080p video editing(yes but too soooooo long to render output), software development and for that time what was crucial for me: smooth multitasking. Aside from existing ISOs, you can even could create your own customized OS with disabling packages/components of windows from ISO file(There was an app for that. You downloaded Windows Official ISO and customize it in the app. App was NTLite afair. I might be wrong)
Conclusion:
Read all of these and make your choice. Only you and no one else is responsible what you do and what it causes.
You can ask your questions related to this and I will try answering as long as I know answer.
Have a good day! :D

Coming from someone who installed XOS 11 on an ssd purely for gaming, i can say that it isn’t meant to improve fps but more so latency. Before installing XOS my task manager said i had over 200 processes running in the background while idle… this has gone down to around 70.
I only installed XOS on a separate SSD separated from my work and school documents. XOS is very popular and I trust that it doesn’t have any malware/bad intentions, but as you said muda we don’t know.
