i mean, i agree in part, but now at least Tyranids have +1 Str to melee in synapse, that cant fail and its not really hard to get either.

forgot about the str part, didnt play since the change. so yeah, true. the LD buff is only partly true, since they all got worse LD to account for that. it's a small buff compared to having ld -1 innately.

@@ChristianVonCarmian40kVtuber Chaos knights can be on the same lvl with GSC (i play both). The first two rounds you just didn't get the most of buffs (-1 to hit, +1 to wound). But also opponent can just pass all BS tests and just go kill you. Or even just spend 1 CP for most valuable unit, or got Chaplain denying the BS.

Started the army during 8th, only finished building enough since the codex release. Played around 5 games now and really struggling, getting board wiped by Tau & Space marines. Tried variations of Xenocreed, 3 trucks with 30 metamorphs. Going to try out 30 genestealers in their detachment in a few weeks time.
Played for fun 3rd-5th edition, competitive during 8th with Ynari. This is a high skill cap army and I find myself forgetting rules on the fly. I'm just gonna have to rewatch some of your videos and keep playing 👍, but it's tough to have fun when you're always losing

I personally want the rule to change to something like you need to get a higher result than they battle round, so battle round 1 is 2+ but battle round 4 is a 5+ (i say that after the faq that let's you return even if a marker is gone)
But for that there will be no plus to the roll

I'd like the idea of a Malstrain Genestealer equivalent, that's a product of Biophagus scientists tinkering with the DNA of Genestealers to produce weird variants. Very "Twisted Helix". Maybe the unit could have an ability where, during deployment (so, AFTER you see the opponent's list), you can choose from one of three bonuses to apply to the unit. As if the cultists (or the hive mind) saw their opposition coming, and tailored their Genestealer variant to exploit weaknesses.

I think that when a max size unit dies, you should automatically get a min sized unit of the same type in reserves and you place an Ambush marker. Units in reserve can either enter the normal way, or pop up next to a marker.

  • @Darkja

I know this is a GSC video but, *rant*
"there are no other army rule where you could just fail"... its called the Chaos Knights army rule. Which is even more conditional that the GSC army rule.
It has conditional activations in everything, being at 12" from the units, then having taken damage, then naturally have only 1 activation at the Command Phase, then it also works on a dice roll (that is balanced against you, and there are factions that are basically army-wide immune to it)
And even if it works, to take full advantage of it you have to be on turn 3+... oh, and i forgot to add that the Army Rule only works because the detachment rule, because by itself its absolutely worthless. So you basically have no detachment rule, since its only there to complete the garbage Army Rule.
And the only way to trigger BS on chaos knights without waiting for the Command Phase is attached to overpriced garbage models, like the Abominant and the Acheron (this one forcing you onto really inconvenient positioning to take advantage of it) and the Abominant is a single test for 385 points. And 1 Enhancement that forces you into melee. (or maybe Allied Skull Cannons, that come with a Bloodletters tax each).
For perspective, the Tyranid Neurolictor has the entirety Chaos Knights Army rule attached to it but better, since it works from turn 1, without the need of having the target being damaged ,with the Abominant BS test included to booth. On a body that can actually hide on terrain, and again, its only 90pts if you lose it, everything in a single model.
All that being said, GSC DO need improvements, lets hope in the next balance update they get better points at the very least, but some rule changes would be nice too.

There could be a problem with the throne patriarch if GW would use the new model with the throne, its the large size of it and the fact that it has a huge tail, maybe we can replace it with a foldable chair instead, that should do. (Jk)
But jokes aside, Sentel powerlifters should have been the thing for GSC, like other than the lifter claws themselves, the GSC can equip their sentinels with mining lasers, saws and drills, a whole new kind of unit they have with than other than the Guard sentinel

I always had the idea of some sort of ‘Star Saint’ being a cool centrepiece, essentially a Lictor/ WTP or some other vanguard nid through the lenses of the Cult where it appears as some angelic being, but then could have little visual cues about its alien origin. Maybe more angel from the front and Nid from the back. No idea how that would function in game just visually could be interesting

I did a kitbash with the warp spider exarch so he's throwing back his cape to strike with four arms each with a sword. I also didn't notice the model had a tail, but I read it in the book, so mine has one too.

My idea for fixing the dice roll portion of Cult Ambush is that a unit would always come back as long as it contained a leader when it was destroyed. This means every unit with a leader would (almost) always come back exactly once.
It would allow GW to balance the points appropriately, would allow some counterplay with precision, and wouldn't really add an additional thing to remember during the game.

I think the most fun for the detachement rule would be if:
    1) we got a +1 to all ambush rolls if a magus is on the field +2 for units within 18”
    2) enemy units need to be within 6” to remove markers
    3) enemy units need to perform an action to remove markers, that would make 1 enemy unit only able to take out 1 blip. So we could cluster blips in the enemy back field if they have few units there. Stretching their resources and start playing a real game with the blips.
Also, no rolls for placing blips only for placing units in reserves. Blips are placed in every command phase the entire game.

My Brother and me thought it would be best to make cult ambush a +1 per turn. So 5+ then 4+ then 3+ then 2+ on the last round that might matter. The idea being the longer you fight gsc the more they can focus their near infinite bodies to where the fighting is fiercest. Then the play style shifts and the vibe is more of a late game come back.

I think its just a problem with the cult ambush in the codex is that not only is it harder, your unit is also way way worse for the most part
You went from near auto returning strong battle line units and occasionally returning strong elites to unreliably returning crappy units that I'm probably gonna have to respawn in a bad location (given a random nurgling doesn't teleport ontop of it and i just get nothing)

the solution to cult ambush is in age of sigmar , plenty of armies have recurring units as a army mechanic, they have learnt over time to make this a small regular thing , don't make it a dice roll just limit the amount that comes back so maybe 1 unit per 1000 points , you then can cost unit approximately to how many come back

  • @Rukdug
    @Rukdug 6 місяців тому

Huh. Adding the Malstrain as a weak almost Kroothound esque "get in fast, hopefully do some damage, then die" type of unit would actually pair very well with that proposed "add 1 to the Cult Ambush roll for each previous units that was destroyed and failed their cult ambush roll" change. Could even give them a special rule where they trade their chance at coming back for Cult Ambush for an absolute guarantee that a future unit will succeed their Cult Ambush roll, the justification being that Malstrain are just so intrinsically WRONG that it distracts the enemy from the rest of the Cult's movements.
If we went that direction for Cult Ambush changes of course.
Also, having a guy in an industrial powerlifter suit as a sort of "Working Cultist's Dreadnaught" would be cool.
The existence of Hermiatus Reborn for Necromunda really opens up the door for Genestealers to finally get some named characters, and I see opportunities for things like a named version of the Sanctus or Biophagus in addition to the Kelermorph.
Think about it like this: a legendary Sanctus who played a game of cloak and dagger with the Inquisition and or the Officio Assassinorum for years or even decades, distracting them from the true workings of the Cult until it was too late to even Exterminatus the planet before the Hivefleet came, preserved in perfect genetic memory by the Hivemind so that a copy can be used by Cults on either the most vital of targets, or on the planets farthest from the Hivemind's reach, cults that might need to be hidden for another millenia before the Hivefleets ever reach the planet. And so the Sanctus makes sure the Cult can play that long game, silencing investigations almost before they begin. Gaining ever more deadly experience and memories with every successful incarnation.

My freinds and i tired to remove the rng from the army rule without just bringing every unit back. Here is our idea:
You start the game with two ambush points and generate on ambush point in each of your command phases (so effectivly start with three). At the end of each turn you must muster all in tbat turn destroyed cult ambush units and decide wich will be destroyed for good or placed in cult ambush. Placing a unit into cult ambush costs 2 ambush point, except for neophite hybrids wich cost one. After placing it in cult ambush all the default stuff with blibs etc. happens.
You now regain, within the first 3 decicive turns, either tow elite units for carefull plans or a big secondery wave of fooder for a delay taktic.
Then one of my friends had the crazy idea to completly remove respawns. Insteat you place 3 blibs on the board before deployment, 9" away from the enemy deployment zone and objectives. During deployment all cult ambush units get to deploy 6" around those markers. Scouting is disabeled for those units.
Sooo um... gernerel thoughts about weather those ideas are balanced? And how could they be balanced better?

Not an easy problem to fix. First, if they change how the whole faction rule mechanic works, GW has to rewrite stratagems, habilites, enhancements .... not happening until next codex. Now, people just hate (both GSC players and opponents) the current faction rule. If they make a minor change to it, most likely things will remain the same , it's not just about chances to get units back, it's about lack of control of blip placement. They messed up big time with GSC codex.

      And/or:
      - +1 to Cult ambush roles for each character attached to the destroyed unit. Representing motivation in the revolt to avenge the martyr and gives additional utility to the characters.

My idea is that the cult ambush should be still on a dice roll, bringing back units is always amazing and having a possibility of it not coming back is a good balance, however the roll needed for it to come back is N+1

I don’t want crossfire to return. The rule was weird and janky and half the time you got around it rather than actually going through it. My favorite solution is improving cult ambush the more units that role on it. Makes sequencing matter and helps incintivize small units.
For units I would like the patriarch to be better, but it does something. It would be nice if while the patriarch was on the battlefield you got +1 to leadership since the head honcho is here in person. the magus needs a change so it actually does something. I would like the magus to behave like the nerolictor. Causes the enemy to take a battleshock test and then gives a buff and the buff is better if the enemy is battle shocked.

Also having mad space cow as a unit would be really cool.

it was already late when I posted the video so I knew I wouldn't have time to add music and balance it all.
It will be back in the next video - and maybe more BGM tracks too

The army rule for your army is too important in this addition to be bad or subpar with how codxes haveing 90% of your power being locked to the attachments you picked, comparing this to 9th. 9th haed more like 80% to core book and about 20% to the detachment. I do feel bad for you, but you could have been demons in 9th where you had an army rule that worked some times and then nothing to use it on. The old rule, btw was roll 8 d6 on a 4+, get that many points for this turn, then spend them on stuff for that battle round the tables you spend points on where relly bad and needed to be cheeper for what they do.

Why can’t we just go back to blip deployment? It’s what made me pick up the army in the first place

I really didn't like it. It made deployment take twice as long as you have to deploy everything twice and some games it just didn't matter

    Fire Stu Black, GW.
Overwatch from titanics, Admech/Custodes/GSC codex, this guy is incompetent rules writer

I didn't knew he wrote them, sad. My main concern with Stu and GSC is that, if you hear the past Metawatch episodes he tslks about how cool and flavor the faction rule has. Problem is he's thinking on the opponent point of view, not the GSC player. Bring someone who actually play GSC to write the rules.

Just stop crying because you can not destroy half of opponents army on turn 2
Playing since 9th ed, played 4 games with new codex recently, only one of them was lost, just grow up and play mindful, forget about shitty acolytes and bikes, use metamorphs instead, hide them in trucks and be happy, in my last game pack of 10 metamorphs with Biophagus chewed up squad of 6 meganobz, then destroyed deffdread, returned and destroyed another deffdread
Who can help you if you run beta units who can do nothing on the battlefield?
