      @@PaperandMoose that sounds like the home my daughter and son in law just bought.....the neighbors informed them the previous owner was terrified of germs. so all the windows and doorways had plastic around them. the 2nd story of the home hadn't been used for 20 years since her husband passed and it was boarded off and wrapped in plastic, so was the basement....it took relatives over 4 years (they lived out of state) to make it livable again after owners passing but my daughter loves the story her house has to tell

    This reminded me of a time I helped a mother & her about a 25 yr old daughter move out of a two bedroom town house about 25 yrs ago. There was probably 6-8 of us. Took one person 3 days just to clean out one room in the basement. We cleaned out the living room & discovered a piano we didn't know was there. Cleaned out a room on the main floor that we all thought was a closet. Turned out to be a powder room (2 piece bathroom). Some rooms had stuff from floor to ceiling. The mother was a hoarder. And when they moved, same thing. Hoarded at their next place (a huge 100+ yr old 2 story place). Then moved again to a two bedroom apt because the house ended up with mold. Hoarded at that place. After that, moved to another two bedroom townhouse. Hoarded there too. Was very sad to watch the mother & daughter move from place to place over the years, while the mother continued hoarding at each place

    • @PaperandMoose
      @PaperandMoose  Рік тому +3

      Wow. I've cleaned out two hoarder homes before and what you described sounds like about 1,000 times more work than the two hoarder homes I cleaned out! So sad... That is how the hoarder mind works though and is very hard to break the cycle without the proper help.

    • @HSSG7
      @HSSG7 Рік тому +4

      @@PaperandMoose Agreed. Without proper help from medical professionals, the cycle will keep repeating itself.
      The original 2 bedroom townhouse literally had stuff piled in some rooms from floor to ceiling. Second house was just as bad if not worse as it was a bigger house.
      Helped another couple clean out their 3 bedroom apt. It was a hoarding situation as well. Though not quite floor to ceiling. Only piled about 4 ft high in 2 bedrooms and about 2ft high in the rest of the rooms

    I bought high end vintage clothing at an auction and the lady had a fireplace. All of the clothes smelled like smoke and what was boxed was wrinkled. I used woolite on everything and woolite spot remover. The woolite made everything smell great, took out wrinkles, and cleaned the dingy items. I even did sweaters. I used a hotter dryer then what was on the instructions. I also use the beads Armour hammer clean scentsations in the wash. It takes wet or damp smells out. It makes the laundry smell good instead of dryer sheets or fabric softener. Old southern ladies swear by using lemon juice on linen or age spots and lay the item on the green grass in the sun to dry. It does work. I was married in 1983 and we had a bedroom set somewhat like the one in the house. That house was like a time Capsule. I think people who lived through the depression were afraid to throw anything away. My mom and grandma saved all the ribbon and paper. My 89 year old mother- in- law has a lock of her baby hair. I just went through 22 shoe boxes of rubber stamps my mom had and books from her childhood.

    I worked for auctioneers for over 30 years. This place is a filthy dump but nowhere near some of the places I've done. We once cleaned out a late 1950s house. Owned by a large single female. She was Definately a horder. Hidden in the middle of the living room unseen was a verticle two stage twin cylinder new air compressor. The funny part. In the sub basement there was an upright freezer still running. I could not get the door open so I unplugged it. Next day it was still mostly frozen but after a bit I managed to get it open. Still full of frozen food. What kept the door from opening was a chicken. Half in freezer half in door. The entire freezer was full of ice.

      If it's the channel that I'm thinking of, then yes, he still is eating old food! I've watched it a few times and what is interesting is when the food actually doesn't taste bad at all.

      @@PaperandMoose Yes, thank you - that's definitely the one. Other than the food maybe losing a bit of texture, it sure was OK to eat. Funny, I always have lots of canned/jarred food, stocked up just in case there's a blizzard or something. If I see a can that's a month or so after it's 'sell by' date, I have to think, like maybe ten times, whether it's "safe" or not to eat! Thanks again.

    Renee, I've never been successful in getting mouse pee out of anything, especially clothes. I've tried everything with zero success & that includes the smell. It's too bad mice ruin the best things, but they don't get everything! There will be plenty for you 💐

      I think the clothes that I took that were hanging up are safe, hopefully! The 80s kids clothes might have to be tossed because they have the mouse urinate 😞

    I enjoy these videos. You can just work away and I’ll watch. I like to think about the people, for example this house looks like someone cared once but for years someone lived there and didn’t take care of the place. People are all different.

      @PaperandMoose  Рік тому +2

      We'll work, you watch - sounds like a good plan! I think that perhaps a family lived here, grown children stayed to continue to live in the home (why the 80s/90s stuff), and like you said, just let it go.

    Looks like another big job ahead of you. That box with the 80s clothes was a fun find. Fingers crossed you are able to salvage a few of them. I love those western style shirts as well. I found a pink one last year that someone had painted the coolest mermaid on the back. Excited to see what you find next ☺️

    Hi Renee
    It’s so good to see you. I haven’t seen any of your videos for awhile
    By the way, try soaking clothes in baking soda to get the smell out and it cleaners most soil items. The other cleaning supplies are products by Totally Awesome which you can get at the Dollar Tree. Try them

    I see a lot of ‘70’s stuff as well!
    The best cleaner I’ve found for knits and very delicate cloth items is named “Soak” .
    It’s available on Amazon and Walmart . You do just what the name suggests, it comes in concentrated liquid and there’s also a single use powder, the liquid is more cost effective.
    You mix it up and just put the items in let it soak for an hour or so then remove the item roll it in a towel to get out excess water then hang or flat dry. No scrubbing or rinsing necessary ‼️It also has instructions for stain removal.
    It’s the best method for cleaning scarves and beanies as well and it prevents pilling on crochet and knit items. 🧶

    I knew a woman that had a business handling evictions for apartments and townhouses over in Baltimore
    She had to go with the sheriffs to put them out and the stuff on The curb. She said things got exciting sometimes
    After so many days the city would pick the stuff up and take it
    She didn’t really keep anything

      I don't know much of the backstory, besides being told that this eviction took a decent amount of time & had its' own share of problems. I don't think anyone wants the stained mattress and 1980s heavy furniture, that's for sure!

    I wanted to mention to you to check the curtain that is pulled back onto the pine paneling when you were cleaning the first closet. If it is made of net fabric, not the cheap curtains of the 80’s, it could be worth quite a bit. Judging from the other items found so far, I don’t think it’s valuable but you never know. I also very late in watching you clean out this house.
