My neighbor just got seven of these cuties, and turned them loose. They migrate up to our place several times a day because we have a bird feeder. They clean up the bird seed that gets dug out by birds and squirrels. My grandfather initially wasn't happy that his neighbors birds were on his property, until I pointed out the fact that ticks have been getting very bad in our area the last couple of years, and with seven guinea fowl hanging around, now there won't be any ticks. Now he enjoys sitting in the porch swing, watching them scurry around the property.
Absolutely! The Guineas go to where the ticks are, so if they are hanging out at your place, they are eating those ticks! The best part is you get the benefits without the cost in housing and feeding them 😉😊. I adore these birds for their help in protecting us from ticks and Lyme disease. Yes, they can be noisy, but it is so worth it when I don’t need to worry about ticks! I love that he enjoys watching them now 💗.
Anyone notice their guineas will police the chickens turkeys and ducks? Since introducing them everything seems to get along so much better. Ducks can now walk by chickens without a fight.

I HAD 6 ticks on me in 1 month bought them and yes everytime a car comes in or anything they are LOUD but not a tick on me since we only have 2 on 25 acers and we know are neighbors and they let them go on their land too so idk how their are no ticks but they work!

Added to that they will surround snakes esp the toxic ones and chase them out of your property and they don’t take much feeding if at all unless you want to give them a treat

I know… I never would have believed it, but they do get rid of them! A fox has left us with only two now🥲 and it was heartbreaking because we really became attached to them… especially little Bob! But right now our female is sitting on a nest in the tree line and our male is so lonely without her. He loves Hei Hei (our handsome rooster) and our two hens, so he will hang out with them for a bit, but he pretty much sits beside my vehicle and looks longingly to where she is (from a distance). He checks on her throughout the day. He refuses to come to the coop at night now because the eggs should be hatching any time, so he watches over her from the tree. I can’t wait until she comes back with her babies🙏🏻🤞🏻. He will be so happy. We have now hatched out 6 keets in the incubator from eggs we found in the coop before she left. I want lots of guineas. I just LOVE them!

We lock ours up every night also… this happened in the middle of the day, right around the house…. It got our hen, Rosie, when we were outside in the backyard with her😭. Now that the hayfield is cut, it has helped… less hiding spots for the fox/ coyotes to spring out from. We are going to build a different enclosure up at the barn to hopefully keep them a little safer🙏🏻.

I am trying to convince scott we need livestock guardian dogs… I think it would help us. He doesn’t think the girls and I would keep the dog outside with the animals, which would be the whole point. I think if we had a really nice spot for them where they could be warm we would. It is going to take a lot more convincing🤣😉
Thanks. Guineas always get a bad reputation because of the noise, but they are the BEST addition to our farm! While everyone around us is struggling with tick problems, we are able to enjoy the outdoors with no worries at all, thanks to them! We just hatched out some Guinea eggs this weekend, so I am going to do some more videos soon for anyone who’s thinking of getting them, new to them, or for anyone just wanting a laugh. I’ve been struggling with an unexpected death in the family the last two weeks, so am just catching up on getting videos posted. On a side note, I believe you mentioned losing your mother last Summer, so I know today will be a very difficult day for you. I am thinking of you ❤️.
I love that! That is amazing. You are the first person I have ever heard say a Guinea is smart. Ours are definitely not. They could be standing in front of an open gate and still can’t figure out how to get in (this happens all the time), but I just love them. I feel like Buddy is our smartest, and he has a puppy dog personality. What tricks can yours do and how did you train them? I want to try with ours. This gives me so much hope for ours! I know… that is the moment I fell in love with them. They are not too bright, but they are so funny and help keep us safe from ticks. Buddy and Bob are little celebrities around here and all the neighbours love that they eat ticks.
I'm glad you made this video. I think this bird is the answer to pest control everywhere. What an amazing bird. Free pest control fully organic, free eggs, free alarm system, and free meat for us or any wild animals that are hungry. We should raise them and let them loose in neighborhoods like Florida. After all, there are peacocks, why not guineas? If they get used to people, cars, dogs, they won't honk anymore, right? Also, do they eat snails, like ducks do? I would like to know why no one keeps the Vulturine Guineas? They are so beautiful and striking in plumage! Aren't they very similar to the regular Guineas? I'd love to hear any comments about the Vulturines. I want to get them instead.

My birds are working hard 😉. They are a crucial part of this farm and I just love them… especially Buddy!

You can't keep Guineas contained, if you do they can't eat your ticks and they will be EXTREMELY loud. Guineas can fly high, so no fencing will hold them in. Ours are only loud when calling to each other if one gets lost from the group or if something is alarming, but some people say they call out for anything and everything.
I just love these birds! You should definitely give them a try. Even our neighbours love them... they are just so funny. We had 8 to start with, but I have seen others say they started out with 20-30. Unfortunately, a fox got 7/8 of them the first night out because they roosted in a tree instead of coming in the coop. We got another 5 and heard they will come back if you keep chickens and it worked for us (we got 3 chickens and 1 rooster). I think the biggest thing is to make sure you have an equal number of males to females because they mate for life. I am definitely not a guinea expert, so I am sure there may be other opinions out there, but from what I have read this seems to be fairly consistent information. We are currently trying to hatch guinea eggs, and plan to get more guineas once we get a larger coop built because a wind storm destroyed our current one. We are really excited for you. Let us know if you decide to get them, how it goes and what you think.
I would ask your local co-op what foods they carry for Guinea Fowl. They will be able to direct you to the feed with the proper nutrient balance they need. They need a higher protein feed usually.
Oh gosh, I’m so sorry to hear that. It could be caused by any number of reasons, such as mites, gout, bumble foot, etc. You should definitely consult a veterinarian who can exam your bird, determine the cause and an appropriate course of treatment. It may be a simple fix, such as an Epsom salt soak or medication, if you get it looked at quickly. Best of luck, and I hope your Guinea has a speedy recovery.

I’ve heard people say they haven’t seen a single tick since introducing some guineas in their yard. Has that been the case for you or do they just reduce the population of ticks?
They took care of our tick problem completely! It took about 2 weeks of them free ranging, and I recommend having at least 10 Guineas. We only kept 6 over Winter but then had a hard time finding more in the Spring... with 6, we were finding the odd tick. As soon as we got additional Guineas, no ticks at all! Check out our other Guinea video for details on how to train them to return to the coop at night.
That was how we kept the grey pearl ones. Someone's Guinea laid a nest in the forest and abandoned 30 babies near our friend's place. They came to his farm in search of food and he couldn't feed them all so we took 10 of them. They free roam during the day and come home at night because they know this is where food and water are. Good luck. They are very beneficial birds to have around if you can tolerate their singing voice 😉
They do free range, and can fly over any fence, but if you train them to know that the coop is home base and where they get food, they will come back every night. Oh no. If you can get it back, lock it in the coop for at least a week or two (with some chickens preferably.). Once it realizes where home is and where it gets food, you should be ok. They will return.

Yes! They apparently eat thousands of ticks a day! I literally have no idea how they determined this number but they definitely seem to have controlled our tick problem around the house, barn and paddocks. Last year we couldn’t go outside without finding ticks on us and so far, it seems the guineas have made a HUGE difference. We have only found ticks 5 times this year (compared to last year where we found them almost daily between us, the dogs and horses). I love these birds!
So is it wrong to call these thing Guinea hens?? Nobody ever called these Guinea fowl growing up. Are we having woke problems about guinea hens? Good grief….
A Guinea hen is a female, a Guinea cock is a male, and if you are referring to them in general, they are Guinea fowl. I hope that answers your question.

We don't have yellow jackets any more because of our Guineas ... They are worth their weight in GOLD !!! LOL
They certainly are! I can easily put up with their noise because they get rid of our “Lyme disease-carrying” ticks! Plus, they’re so funny!

Guineas keep snakes away from your house... they either kill them or drive them away. I do get tired of them squaking though.
