Checking in with government so they could monitor & patrol area is the best plan. Well done on doing your research. If you get a chance to visit Raja Ampat, it is well worth it!!!💙
That route are known to be a very dangerous zone especially at night. Desperate people takes desperate measures, that's a way of life. Exposing yourselves to such danger is actually not a wise idea.
Yeah it used to be a dangerous area. We did take app precautions we were told to do, and also told by the government that it was safe. We didn’t take it lightly. But after sailing through, I would feel pretty good about going through again. After reflecting on everything we did feel safe the entire way.
After passing through the area we would not be worried about going back. But with the stories you hear from some people, you should respect the rules and warnings set by the government. There has been a lot of bad things happening in the area previously, and everyone should do their own research before deciding to go through or not.
@@SailingRippleEffect I'm Malaysian and I'm well aware of what's going on in Sabah. There's a militant group known as the followers of the Sulu Sultanate in the Philippines who believes that the rightful owner of Sabah belongs to their heirs, even though the heirs cannot be verified as the actual descendants of Sulu and there's an agreement between Sultanate of Sulu and British commercial syndicate which stipulated that North Borneo was ceded in 1878. In 1942, Japan invaded Sabah during WW2 which lasted until 1945 and after the war, the people voted in a referendum overseen by the UN in 1963 to join the Federation of Malaysia. That's the simplified version of the history in Sabah. This militant group tried to take back Sabah by force in 2013 but was repelled by the Malaysian security forces and killed 32 militants during the mop up. While there were cases of piracy after 2013, threats in Malaysian waters have dwindled significantly after the incident. The Malaysian government have taken steps to mitigate potential threats by beefing up patrols and acquiring more military assets. In this video alone, there were at least 3 patrol boats and 1 Malaysian Coast Guard vessel with more warships and patrol vessels are currently under construction. You can bet that Sabah and Sarawak will be the most militarized waters in Malaysia in the future due to piracy, presence of militant groups in the Philippines and the growing territorial dispute in the South China Sea
You can't be too careful. You were sailing in dangerous waters and people have been kidnapped and killed in those waters. It's good that you took precautions ... and you were lucky. Anyone not taking all possible precautions is a fool.
i had the feeling this was hyped up for some reason by the government the military guy said he had never seen a pirate makes you wonder what eyes don't see cant be reported ? {:-) PAV UK

That guys plan was ridiculously funny. I hope you continue to be lucky for as long as you sail.
We sure hope so as well.
i was just reading about this and wanted to make sure i will be safe travelling to borneo
We felt very safe in all of it, even if we had some moments of doubt. but if you follow the recommendations it would be all good
im so glad you are all together and you are all ok. im glad the government is doing their job to checkon travelers
Very positively surprised by the experience we had the entire way

still many scary areas on this planet, but getting better
I hope you’re right 🙈
Overdramatized. That area has a lot of patrols because it's close to the Philippines and many have tried to sneak into Sabah illegally.

It’s hard to know what is really there. We felt safe, but it’s difficult to say what is the real situation 🤷♀️
Nope.. the treat is real. Some resort even guarded by military. On vagabond video, their boat was attended by VAT69, special police forces
