One Final Sail...
Today we set out on one final sail. We will sail from Gili Goleng to Bali, Indonesia as the crew reflects on two months on the open ocean. It's been an extremely memorable season with much growth, many challenges, and countless laughs. We wish all the best to Monica, Kay, and Natalia in all of their future endeavors, and forever consider them a part of the ripple effect family.

We Visited One of the TRASHIEST Beaches on Earth | Lombok, Indonesia
Переглядів 68821 день тому
We have traveled halfway around the world to some of the most remote places on the planet. But there has always been one constant in our travels - TRASH. Trash on remote beaches, trash on isolated reefs, trash in the open ocean. It is a monumental problem. But until we experienced it firsthand, we didn't actually how pervasive the problem really is. We have sailed through the Philippines, Malay...

We Explored an Ocean Lovers PARADISE | Komodo Island, Indonesia
Переглядів 1,2 тис.Місяць тому
In 2011 Indonesia's Komodo Island, named after the largest living lizard that inhabits the island, was added to the list of the 7 natural wonders of the world. Komodo Island is renowned for its world-class landscapes, but the marine biodiversity and tremendous subterranean ecosystems make it one of the most sought after dive locations in the world. Despite having to sail through pirate waters, ...
We Tried a TOPLESS Tradition Crossing the Equator

We are about to embark on an epic 3 day sail from Nunukan, to Balikpapan, Indonesia. That's nearly 470 nautical miles and will be a huge test for our rookie crew who is still learning the basics of sailing. We hope for smooth sailing and beautiful sunsets, but of course there's always a chance for drama on the open ocean. Be sure to stick around for when we cross the equator and try wild toples...
Asking Strangers to Celebrate their most Important Holiday with Them | Indonesia
Переглядів 6322 місяці тому
We have 24 hours to spend in Nunukan, Indonesia and we want to get a true locals experience. As fate would have it, our visit falls right in the middle of Ramadan. So we thought, why not ask a stranger if we can celebrate Ramadan with them? 87% of the population in Indonesia is Muslim, so Ramadan is a huge deal in this country. As eager as we were to pursue this adventure, we also wanted to be ...
7 Days in PIRATE Waters | Borneo, Malaysia

Today we are setting out on a 7-day sailing trip through pirate territory. For the past two months, we have been sailing through the Philippines, and as we have approached the southern limits of the country we have debated where we should go next. In essence, we had two routes to choose from. Route 1 was to head west out of the Sulu Sea south towards Jakarta while hugging the western side of Bo...
Asking Strangers if we can cook for them in THEIR House | Balabac Philippines |Sailing Ripple Effect
Переглядів 63 тис.3 місяці тому
As we have explored the amazing islands throughout the Philippines, we have wanted to understand more and more what it truly means to be Filipino. As we thought about ways to try and experience Filipino culture in the most authentic fashion, we came up with a crazy idea. What if we approached strangers on the streets and asked them if we could cook them lunch. But here was the twist - we would ...
Can We Sail WITHOUT a GPS in the Open Ocean?? | Sailing Ripple Effect
Переглядів 2,5 тис.4 місяці тому
Our new crew has only been sailing for a few weeks now, and they are just starting to get the hang of how everything on the boat works. Today we will be putting them up to the ultimate test and will remove all electronic navigation tools from the helm, and will only allow them to use paper charts/maps to navigate the boat to a remote island in the Philippines. The crew will first have to plan a...

    I don't know why people in the comments are acting like you are advising washing all your clothes in salt water 😅 this is a temporary measure to make your clothes slightly less gross feeling until you can get to someplace with unlimited freshwater

    This is how we do laundry on the boat ⛵️ and a little secret for you 🤫 Being out at sea for weeks at the time has its challenges; one of them used to be doing laundry without the convenience of a washing machine or laundromat close by 🌊 However, with Scrubba, laundry is so easy now, even in the middle of the ocean - miles away from any land. 🏝️ This is how we use the Scrubba: 1. Fill the Scrubba with water 💧 2. Add your clothes 👙 3. Add your eco friendly detergent 4. Roll it up 5. Release the excess air 6. Start washing your clothes for up to 3 minutes using the washboard on the inside of the bag. 7. Rinse with fresh water 💦 8. Hang it to dry And thats it! It is really that easy! 💃🏼💃🏼 And for the secret? 👀 We actually have a washing machine on the boat, but it is wasting so much water and electricity that there is no way we are using that thing. And the Scrubba is so much faster anyway - so why would we 🤷‍♀️ #sailinglife #sailinglifestyle #scrubba #sailboatlife #thescrubba @thescrubba

    There is no way those are clean. Even if i thought that would work, and i do not because sea water.... theres no way you could use that and get out of scrubbing stain spots out by hand.

      We don’t have a lot of stains on our clothing, it’s mostly sweat and and dirt. If it’s hard core stains we do need to treat it with stain remover like normal :)

      We have very good results with this method, most of our clothes are just sweaty and dusty. We also rinse with freshwater not saltwater :)

    • @zachtalongamesyt9981
      @zachtalongamesyt9981 3 дні тому

      definitely not, the salt will ruin them, plus theres tons of bacteria and other debris and pollutants in the water

    • @SailingRippleEffect
      @SailingRippleEffect 3 дні тому

      We rinse it with freshwater, and if needed we also do a second wash with freshwater. But most of the time we just need to get rid of the sweat and dust 😂🙈

    Thanks for visiting my island Santa Ana. The island was named by Alvero De Mendana when he visited the islsnd in 1568.He also named another islsnd close by (about 2 miles away) as Santa Catalina.May be you have heard of " Wogasia" The word literally mean worship.Santa Catalina still practice wogasia,usually on May each year. The late Moffart Wasuks,a graduate of Edenbrough University and a one time director of USP Center Sol.Is.wrote a book about wogasia.He is a native of Santa Catalina.
