Where did the 'extra' piece of wood come from. The one that the nails are attached to? Are there 3 3/4" plywood pieces or just 2? Sorry if this a crazy question. This table is awesome!!

Yes, 3 sheets of plywood. 1 for the rail, 1 for the playing surface, and 1 for the trim ring that is edge banded and has the decorative nail heads.
