I agree somewhat with your idea. But you have no guarantee that both caps will press in away from the snap rings. One may press while the other stays stuck. Also, not a lot of people have a vise to do your idea. I work on a lot of cars, and I do not have a vise. I am 55 years old and never owned a vise. But I get the job done. And my way, only a screwdriver is required to remove the clips.
Socket and a big hammer. Just replaced 2 40-50 year old you joints with only breaking one clip. Broke My first one because I wasn’t being aggressive enough with the hammer. Eventually the clip will rotate inside the grove and thats the sign that it’s ready.
Ok. Now give me tips on removing internal c-clip on Ram 2500 front axle u-joint. I am having the hardest time getting purchase on the tip of the clips which are toward the inside of the ears. So far , 2 out of 4 broke in half on the passenger side using a screwdriver and then later some nail set punches. So far destroying 1 screw driver and 2 nail sets. I am now half way done on the driver side. There has to be a better way.
What vehicle does that drive shaft go to? That Flange yoke looks like the one I’m trying to find. Someone customize a drive shaft and swapped the rear end on one of my vehicle.
You call this the easy way? Just shove the screwdriver underneath to pry the ring up a little bit then grab them with pliers and yank them out! That wrist twisting motion looks like a blast... As in blasting your joints to give you arthritis at an early age LOL
No. That's the whole point. Even if it snaps you can continue to remove it using this method. 3 of the 4 snapped on me replacing this u-joint and I still got them out without any issue.
Looks like that clips been there a hunurt years
Also helps if you give it a few love taps on the clip to loosen it up
I find it's a lot easier if I spray some wd40 and give it a few belts with a hammer and socket, the clips usually come right out with pliers then
yooo good to see you upload again!
Looks like your have a tough time there buddy
Tough to watch.
Subscribed 👌🏼
Peeked at some other clips first, N TP was funny but thoughtful for the mail person. 🙌
Luck with the project my friend good to see ya
Awesome tip Andy!
Glad I saw this lmao
Welcome back Andy
Pretty smart.
Wd and heat
Right on brother 🙏
The easiest way is to actually get a vice and 2 sockets and squeeze the caps together and that takes the load off the clips.

Handy tip 👌
Just tap that side with a sacrificial socket and that snap ring comes right out.

My fingers hurt watching
What do you do if the clips keep snapping even with heat ?
If you can’t get the new ones in without snapping you might have the wrong size.

Dude sounds like he's got 8 kids and he's teaching this to his 6 yr old
👌👍
Each one came out differently on the ujoints that im doing. I needed heat for all, but some came out with pliers, others needed more persuasion.
Noice

2006 Jeep Liberty
put a screwdriver against one of the bends on the clip and wack with a hammer.
My u joint clips are inside Still work the same
I did this and they snapped off 😢
