    I'm a new to videography and also a local OK guy as well. I loved this video and it was the first SLOG or color grading video that was simple and not confusing / overly complicated.

    Thank you for the video. Quick question. When using SLOG3 and Phantom Luts do I need to convert the footage to Rec 709 first and then drop a phantom LUT on or can I just slap one directly onto the SLOG3 footage? Thank you
    I shoot on Sony A7IV and use Divinci Resolve 18

      @JAMImagery  Рік тому +1

      You can drop any of the LUTs directly on the footage. No need to convert to Rec 709 first.

    I’m glad I found this video, super easy to follow and very informative. I just got an A7IV and have been eyeing the phantom luts and have heard nothing but great things. Your approach and methods of grading are super easy to follow. Thank you for sharing.

    Thanks so much! I've been struggling and suddenly I'm not. Question: You mention Waqas Qazi. Did you take his Masterclass? I've been considering it, but I'm a retired photographer just getting into videography/filming to make work for artistic and social service reasons, so the teaching to become professional part doesn't apply AND the course is expensive AND it's on version 17 while i'm running 18.5 and as a beginner, I don't need that hassle of stuff not being in the same place. But if you took the course and think it was really valuable, that would mean something to me.

    Option 2 is incorrect because you need to change the output to Rec 709 and gamma 2.4

    I think color managed timeline is the most scientific and accurate way to go. From there you can create your own LUTs

    Thank you for this - amazing - is there a tutorial to show how I could match up my Panasonic GH6 and S1 footage to my Sony A7IV footage ?

    • @JAMImagery
      @JAMImagery  Рік тому

      Your best bet is to use a Color Space Transform to convert them all to either the same color space or to Rec. 709 and try to match from there.

    very informative video! i've never color graded anything before, but my research on youtube seems to tell me that s-cinetone would be good enough that i don't really need to color grade? am i mistaken? thanks!

    • @JAMImagery
      @JAMImagery  2 роки тому +1

      S-Cinetone is a great option that gives you a look where you don’t have to do anything if you don’t want to.

    • @chosenideahandle
      @chosenideahandle 2 роки тому

      You don't even need s-cinetone. Most Sony shooters I know actually prefer the standard colour profile over s-cinetone (Sony fixed their bad colour awhile before the A7SIII).

    that "editable spline" tip is insane.. thanks for making it so simple. Since you are grading a7siii videos and extracting such nice colors out of it , can you provide some tip on how you exposed the footage?? in this shot did you expose for the whole scene or for the skintone ??

    • @JAMImagery
      @JAMImagery  2 роки тому +1

      Absolutely - glad it worked for you! In this scene, I exposed for the highlights and then made everything else work. My key light was only barely bright enough to get any sort of shape on his face.

    • @nafisahmedvideos7882
      @nafisahmedvideos7882 2 роки тому +1

      @@JAMImagery for a backlit scene like this you got really nice image by exposing for the highlights.

      @@nafisahmedvideos7882 thank you so much! exposing for the highlights with digital sensors tends to help a lot when getting a well exposed image.

    Phantom LUTs are a to emulate ARRI footage from log, and then there are the "looks" he has. It's a different objective to what you're showing us here, but cool video.

    I recently purchased the phantom luts for the fx30. Does anyone know which set I would use for the fx30 being it's not listed after the download. Shooting in Cine EI/ SGamut3.Cine

    Have you tested the new G5 version of Phantom LUT? I find it very contrasty and was thinking if there is something wrong with my davinci set up. Have you tested that version yet? Thanks for the video

  • @gerrypi51

    Super: finally found what I was looking for for a long time: method 1, which quickly delivers a usable result (like A7S3 "gamma assist" on and off ). Then the film editing can be realized. This is then the first reference for exporting the entire film sequence for assessing the first cut. You could place this film on a video track above it (video 2) and then use method 3 to fine-tune the individual clips on video track 1. So you can check your own color grading (video1) for exaggerations by fading video 2 in and out.
    One more question about saturation:
    I find that I always give holiday clips, for example, a higher saturation (e.g. SAT=54 / Col-boost = 5). Does it make sense to increase the saturation parameter in Picture Profile 9 already in the A7S3? Or better only in post-production?

    • @JAMImagery
      @JAMImagery  2 роки тому

      I try to leave all of my saturation to be edited in post, so I don’t worry too much about fixing it in camera. I’d rather have the flexibility to change it later on than be stuck with something that doesn’t work as well for every situation.

    • @gerrypi51
      @gerrypi51 2 роки тому

      @@JAMImagery Thanks, I agree. Yesterday I shot 4 clips of the same scenery in S-Log3 with the A7S3: in PP 9 Sat= 0 / +3 / +6 / +9. In the post (only LUT = Sony SLOG 3 TOLC 709) all 4 clips have the same saturation. I'm confused.

    Hello, Friend, I saw your tutorial regarding used Lut. Yes i know about that, but can i used pantun lut for sony a7s2?

    • @JAMImagery
      @JAMImagery  2 роки тому +1

      They are built for specific cameras, so it probably won’t work as well on the A7S2 as it does in the A7S3.
