  • We rode around the Istrian Peninsula from the Italian city of Trieste, through Slovenia, and into Croatia. We mainly followed the Euro Velo 8 route but occasionally hopped on regional Croatian bicycle routes for some pleasant coastal riding. We also cycled the Parenzana Trail, a rail-to-trail that ventures inland through Istria's beautiful hill country.
    If you're interested in more route details including GPX tracks, check out our post about bicycle touring through Croatian Istria:

    We're Andrew and Jenny. We sold all our stuff, built our bicycles, and headed out on an around the world bicycle tour in May of 2021. We started our European tour in Paris, and we're currently in the Balkans.

    Thanks for the video. This brings back memories. I actually took a similar route in my mini trans eurasian tour 3 years ago. Only hickup, I broke my bike frame on the Parenzana near Motovun. Had it solded by some random guy there. Still works!

      Glad you enjoyed it! Sorry to hear about the frame, but that's awesome that someone was able to fix it and it's still holding! We are on steel frames and always wonder if they can actually be fixed as people say. Andrew broke a steel frame Bianchi Volpe in Cuba a while back, close to the end of a tour, and ended up taking a bus the last 80 miles back to Havana instead of risking it with a local repair. Probably should have just gone for it, the frame ended up in the trash anyway 😔.

    Croatia is indeed beautiful and its on my list of places to cycle around. Amazing video as always.
    If you can make a simple video about your bike and gear you are carrying and how much the trip cost you, it will be great. No Pressure :D !!!

      We're glad you enjoyed the video! We are definitely planning on making a gear video, we've put some miles on the bikes/equipment so we've got a pretty good idea of how it is all holding up and what works well. We're budgeting $30/per person per day for the trip and so far we've stuck to that since May. We're pretty frugal, we cook most of the time and try not to splurge on hotels too often, but it could be done a little cheaper for sure.

    Was there in 1999 cycling from Venice to Dubrovnik and return via the Istrian .of course Bosnia and Croatia were in a much different situation .food was scarce and war damage everywhere .all recorded in my book Pasta Punctures & Perseverance. Howard Ashton

    Ah, mystery solved .. at @5:16 I was thinking: is that a single speed, I only see one sprocket? Impossible!
    But now I see it looks like a Rohloff Speedhub, pretty cool!

    • @RollingExistence
      @RollingExistence  Рік тому +1

      Haha yeah we get a lot of people asking if they're single speed or e-bikes! But no, you're correct that they're Rohloffs!

    How are the mondials holding up? I wish they would make a slightly wider tubeless version.

    • @RollingExistence
      @RollingExistence  2 роки тому +1

      We have 10,000km/6,000miles on them so far and they're doing great. At least 1,500mi of that has been gravel, much of it quite chunky/sharp. Probably have at least another 3,000 miles of life left before we have to replace them. Only one flat so far between the two of us, about 5,800 miles in. We do use slime tubes though, we've had a few punctures that sealed up. The one flat was from a wider puncture that wouldn't seal above 30psi, it was rideable but eventually I (Andrew) got sick of putting air in the tire every day and just changed it. I also wish there was a wider version, I've washed out on steep downhills 4 times now. If we had 29x2.3s instead of 29x2.0s the handling would be much better in the loose stuff. Jenny goes slower than me on the downhills and hasn't had any problems though, I'm a little reckless with my descents.

      We'll be releasing a new video soon! It takes a lot of time to edit footage on the road, so sometimes we have longer gaps between videos. But we're definitely working on it!
