These guys are over thinking this. The Chiefs did not intend to have Juwaan Taylor at left tackle and didn't want to seem desperate going into the draft looking for a left tackle. I think they wanted to draft Anton Harrison but were not willing to give up too much and knew Donovan Smith was the back up plan.
Chiefs fans obsessed with OT5 like he’d come in and be a star. Everything chiefs have ever said about Taylor was that he was their Left tackle. Should we have believed it? Maybe not but the team said did say it.
I enjoy to content/commraderie but I need close captions guys. I'm a disabled vet with thrash hearing, for some reason it's not available and I'm seriously hoping this isn't a case of operator error. You guys are crushing bro, keep it coming
If I didn't know any better, I'd think someone is lying. Our left tackle was signed with a huge contract. We just signed his backup. Lucas will be a swing T as he could be our 2nd best option...who really knows how good he is when healthy. Lucas may be our starting RT with the Rook backing him up till late in year. Bottom line, we have options!
The real question, Do I feel better about an O-Line with Donovan Smith at LT and Juwaan Taylor at RT than I did about Brown/Wiley last fall? Yes, no discussion required. Most likely, the knee is not progressing as hoped with Lucas Niang. Regardless, it will all work out and some combination of Smith/Taylor/Morris/Niang (?) plus the other 3-4 role players and a surprise UDFA will supply depth.
Smith Wasn't a compensatory free agent given the fact that he was Released by the Bucs, so the timing of this signing has Nothing to do with the post-draft signing window! Chiefs likely waited until they had the Draft and waited to see which Tackle was drafted by the Chiefs!
Love it for depth, hate it if he plays. The report of him starting by Nate has already been corrected by Nate saying chance to compete now. Congrats on 2 years kcsn!
So we have all these Tackles, I would guess that the Chiefs haven't been hit by the stupid stick! They will go with the best 2 players out of this group! They literally have only one Left tackle with NFL experience (Smith), but not crazy to think Taylor could move over if needed to do so.
Yall are getting way too deep into the weeds. They got a veteran LT to plug and play so they don't have to dump Juwaan Taylor into the deep end week one, Juwaan can play his natural RT and get some LT reps in for a potential future move, maybe next year or maybe this year if Smith gets hurt. Taylor might still play LT at some point, I just think they aren't putting all their eggs in that basket before they've ever seen him even take a half dozen snaps in pads... which is certainly something I was worried about. Wanya Morris is a legitimate swing tackle having played multiple seasons at that position, Lucas Niang isn't. Furthermore I don't think anyone feels good about relying on Lucas Niangs health as a major contributor. Dude was hurt coming out of college, and he just rehabbed from a major injury that often ends offensive linemans careers. Having him be your only serious answer at RT would have been like playing with matches while wearing a kerosene soaked tshirt. It just gives them a bunch of flexibility going into the year, and it makes me feel significantly better about the depth at the position... which I definitely wasn't feeling good about a week ago.
Or maybe Smith is insurance if Taylor doesn't work out at LT, what would our options be if that were the case if we didn't have Smith? I mean come on guys, you are overreacting without all the information.
I still dont know the nitty gritty details of the contract.. But im not thrilled of the idea of him starting. On either side. I think it would behoove the chiefs, if lucas niang impressed enough to win the RT tackle job, and have taylor play left
Probably if Smith is finally healthy. Last year he held all the time because he was injured. I still can't bring myself to trust Niang because he has yet to stay healthy all season, without even playing. I can't believe that Veach didnt trade up and get Anton Harrison in the 1st round. He only went 4 picks before us. Veach said he couldn't get any AFC teams to trade with him. Then he waited too long before trying to trade up. Not good. Our biggest need by far and we failed to jump up 5 spots to get a guy. smh
O-Linemen ROSTER - Free Up another SPOT by cutting the HALFBACK (240 lbs) that is Masquerading as a LONG Snapper in Winchester. He always lets rushers by on mutiple Punts per Season. Assign a Lineman that has PLayed CENTER to the LongSnapper Position & has a NormaL Size, ie. Nick Allegretti. Andy is too LOYAL, He would never do that, but should.
You do know no one can rush over the long snapper? On punts the long snapper doesn't really even block but is one of the three players that can release downfield as soon as the balls snapped.
I'm laughing histerically at Matty being perplexed by how the Chiefs would prefer Donovan Smith, an actual Left Tackle (capitalized for emphasis) with 124 games of experience and 9000+ snaps as a Left Tackle, who helped the Bucs give the Chiefs defense the worst pressure rate in Super Bowl history at Left Tackle over Jawaan Taylor a very good but not great right tackle, who has never played any significant snaps as a left tackle.
You just gave a bunch of experience stats but have you actually watched him play consistently? Very inconsistent, tons of holding penalties. He’s better suited as a veteran backup at this point
When it comes to the way football is now fans have to stop thinking so simple. Chiefs are out thinking the whole league and that includes the fans. In 2023 side of tackle doesn’t matter. Specifically Joey bosa and Crosby play on right side and are in division. Either way elite pass rushers get moved all along the line to the favorable matchup this is not the 80s or 90s. Chiefs are in a great spot. How do we turn having the best tackle room of mahomes Career into anger and panic?
I saw the parody chiefs fan page arrowhead addict* said the side of tackle doesn’t matter but it 100% does. Blindside tackle is more important no debate
@@jackiemoon5906 lol it can still be overall more important but the point but are extremely important now. Game has evolved. Tua is left handed and his best tackle is armstead who’s a right tackle. Micah parsons are whoever will go to the favorable matchup whether it’s right left or inside. Period. Chris Jones had like 6 sacks at edge. And multiple from the right side come on guy. So it’s actually really not that much important because the weak link will get exposed no matter what. Shouldn’t place a premium over one or the other. Need both really good now
@@ljindacut2597 just realized I said arrowhead live instead of arrowhead addict. If Taylor looks bad at LT keep him on the right side but in an ideal world every team wants their LT>RT. Tua is 1/32 and won’t be on the dolphins next year so Idk if they care that armstead plays LT instead of RT.
@@jackiemoon5906 dolphins are just an example but for the chief’s system specifically we need two good athletic tackles that can move around in scramble drills. Also need to be able to hold up on both sides which our tackles couldn’t do last year. Andy couldn’t run the offense the way he wanted to because of our tackles specifically until he made all the chip adjustments and that Also made McKinnon super valuable. Neither tackle is really more important than the other. We don’t have statue qbs standing still in the pocket who can’t evade pressure. And then again pass rushers move all along the line.
@@ljindacut2597 nah we do know that Left tackle is the premier position vs right tackle. And I can promise you “in the chiefs system” they would also prefer an elite LT
You guys are becoming click bait. Horrible takes. They are putting their best line possible forward. And Matt is 100 percent wrong on Smith, he has been a good LT except for last year because he was hurt. Not a good episode. Secondly, you guys have zero idea what is going on inside the building.
The situation is fluid. It will all become clear in camp. Just glad to have more depth and competition at the most vital group

Thank you. Definitely over thinking smith has done a solid job his whole career at LT.
100%

I'm happy that you figured this out. 80 million he's the starter😂
New rule. Way less utilizing the word “intentional” in places it doesn’t need to be.
Past May 1 was the key to the Smith signing. As mentioned.

Is it possible the Chiefs will trade an offensive lineman toward the end of the preseason for a 2024 draft choice?
Craig is the voice of reason! 😂
I think the Chiefs weren’t satisfied with the Tackles available in the draft so this is plan B
