Great video. What are you using for your light dimmers? Did you buy different lights? Are they WiFi? And the Harmony remote can control the smartthings?
Hello Peter, excellent video. I had a question, how do you get Alexa and SmartThings lock your doors and set your alarm system?? Thank you for your timely response
Hey man, I'm trying to watch your video but that "motion stabilization" is making me motion sick :( I'm not sure if it's the youtube effect or an effect on your smartphone or whatever, but please disable it for future videos if you haven't already. Cool setup though!
Great job!. Im in the process of purchasing different products for both the Smart House and a security system. The technology is awesome. Im real new to it, so can you tell me what the monitors or tablets are for you have mounted on the wall? I watched the video but that just went over my head, lol!! Thanks again tor your video, very articulate as well!
Amazing setup! I've got the Echo, smartthings, LIFX, and a couple harmony hubs setup in kinda a similar fashion. Can you please tell me how you got push notifications to the Echo to announce when a door is open???
quick observation, instead of voiding your echo's warranty, why don't you just get a raspberry pie, load either plex, subsonic or serviio on to the pie. connect it to your amp,you can either go 2 channel, 5.1 or 7.1 if you really want, and make make the echo cast all your media directly to the raspberry pie, is that something worth considering? rp are relatively cheap lately
THIS is pretty cool! If you wanted to control things away from home, does Alexa have an app to make it do everything you just did remotely or is that something you would have to do with Smartthings. I just got a combo for Smartthings and Echo and have no idea how to use it and what all the possibilities are. I want to use it for home security. So when a door sensor is triggered, or camera detects motion, I want a siren to go off and video recording to start. And I also want to be able to enable or disable all of it remotely. So far I have no idea whether to buy devices that pair with Alexa or Smartthings for this purpose, without buying a dedicated alarm system.
The latest version of the Logitech hub firmware now integrates directly with SmartThings. You shouldn't need to use IFTTT to control your tv/receiver. You'd probably get better performance with just ST and Logitech talking directly.
How much did it cost you to complete this project? Just bought a smart things hub, cant wait to mess around with it. Your setup is AWESOME, nice job bud.
I just ordered the Echo, Smart Things hub, and a switch. I'm very interested in doing the door sensor to voice alert on the Echo. Was that difficult to set up..? Is there a specific door sensor.? Thanks....great setup.
I think my favorite part of Alexa so far is the LED animation and her responses. It's really cool and futuristic, but I can't afford to spend $80 per power outlet to automate all that stuff. I hope home automation becomes more affordable.
That's a really cool setup. I'm working towards something similar. I have a question about the Amazon echo being wired for output. Do you have output going into an amplifier for the ceiling speakers? I tried finding info and saw some say the echo is already amplified and going into an amp will burn it out. Just trying to see how you have. My plans will have it going into an a/v reciever.
+Nick Brown As of now it's just going directly to a JVC home receiver and it's been just fine. To be on the safe side I basically only turn the volume up between 0 and 5 on the echo unit to keep from overloading the RCA input on my amp.
Awesome setup! Could you provide some basic details on how you set up the door-open announcements? I've been looking for a way to provide an alert during the times I'm home if a door opens unexpectedly. The only other alternative I have see is the siren route, which might be a bit extreme. What are you using for OUTDOOR motion sensors with Smartthings?
which speaker did you tap off of. the top or bottom. i tried the bottom one and only get feed back. i think the top speaker is the woofer which i believe is what you said you used. but just curious which one you used. top or bottom one?
I just got an Echo Dot recently and I already had a Harmony Hub. I tried the IFTTT way and it does take a while like you said. Also you have to say "trigger" something. There also seems to be a skill you can get now so you can skip IFTTT entirely and you can just say "turn on xbox" or whatever and not have to use the word trigger. I couldn't get it to turn on my PS4 by saying PS4 or Playstation 4 though. It kept saying those words were not in my account. I had to spell out Playstation Four then it worked. Go figure.
Hello, the fact that your amazon echo tells you which door or sensors is opened or closed? What handled this? Smartthings or Echo and how? also how are you using all your speakers? connected to 1 amplifier with bluetooth or jack? thank you
hi mate, inspired by ur video, bought amazon dot , smart things kit, logitech harmony, hue n sonos.. question is where do i start first ? :) also what are the best sensor to turn on n off lights , when enterin n leavin the room ? thanks
How many speakers can you wire in parallel and string through the house until you get back to the Amazon Echo and tie it in to the headphone/speaker output? Doesn't that drain the power from the echo in an adverse way? Standard 4 ohm or 8 ohm speakers? I like the way Alexa interrupts and announces any change in any open or closed state for the doors or even windows that have sensors. Those are sensors for SmartThings, right?
Amazon has been teasing us with a future capability of "push notifications". When (if) they finally do that, it'll be a huge step forward for Home Automation. Come on Amazon ...get it going..!
bluetooth reciver wired to the mic or just a bluetooth speaker in combo with bluetooth mic could give you better range, or a seperat mic system preamp to speaker or wired to mic. Shame there isnt a chain system on the eco dot i know people have problems with comands beeing sendt to several eco's. Nice setup!!!
How did you get alexa to give voice notifications? I can't find a TTS that works with Alexa or Smartthings. Been stuck on this for a while. Great setup btw!
Peter can you go into depth on how your alarm system works. interested in how the voice communicates that a door is open or closed. what software and how. thanks
quick question: have you thought of the possibility that your smarthome will become sentient, lock all the doors and turn the heat up to dangerous levels to kill you?
I wish to do similar home automation at my home back in India where voltage rating is 230 V, 50 Hz. Will these products, mainly the z-wave switches and dimmers work at 230 V? And what about the z-wave frequency? Does it vary for every country?
Please tell how your electric bill has been since you set up the system. Are you using significantly more kiloWatts than before? If so, is it worth it? Are are you even using less than before?
I think thats answered but I'm still not sure, as he said a CHEAP DVR"" WHAT DVR SIR?! please we love the set up tell us, what app, more details to as its configured as far as tying it together with the app on that mac, is that mac supporting both those monitors or is one going to your DVR ?
IS there anyway you could list the products you used with smart things to make all this happen? Haven't been able to figure out where to start after purchasing smart things - like your setup.
I know this is an older video but, the newer echo plus has a hub in it that is advertised to be compatible with smart things. My question is, do you know if I can use the multi sensor with the echo hub and still be notified when doors are open and closed?
Can you please share on how to setup and allow your Amazon Echo notifies you in a audio message your door or motion is detected. I have been using some your ideas on doing my new home the same as you. So Thank You
Hi there. This is a nice setup. I would like to setup door switches (connected with Amazon Echo) like you had. Could you please show me how ? Thank you a lot for your help
Could you please tell us what sensors you used so it knows when doors are opend and closed? And hiw did you link it to echo? I have been searching on Google but can't find anything
okay why would you want it wired through your house? like how many sensors for doors do you have because I wouldn't want my music to pause ever couple of seconds because people are moving around. also how much was it to install all those speakers?
What led bulbs are you using in your lamp fixtures? Cree? Lifx? Are those Phillips led color strips or osram lightify? I have Wemo LEDs hooked up to my smartthings. I sometimes get random turn-ons. I also am having problems creating sunset-based rules with smartthings. Have you experienced this?
How did you set up the door open close through Alexa? I have ST and Alexa I have the door sensors installed but can't figure out how to get Alexa to say front door open / closed. Any help would be great.
I'm a brother volunteer FF from Buffalo area. Do you use I'm Responding for calls on phone. Is there any way to make that work with Alexa yet? Or smart things? Let me know.
hey, which app you are using on your right screen? i have the problem, that I have different systems, which are just working on the Alexa together, but I want to have also a interface, to control all stuf by my smartphone, or Tablet, and see the status of the switches and lamps. cheers
+Peter Anania what do you use to trigger the voice commands when a door is opened? I've got the voice command working when I select speech from within the smart things app but I can't figure out how to automate it when the open\close sensor gets opened..
Can you do a video on how you set your smart home up like in picture Diagram of what band an how the wires are ran to everything an then a video on how to setup autonation an scenes
is there any way to do this: say alexa, play (whatever playlist i want). and then the lights will dim or change scene that is set specific for when you play music. that's all i want to do and I can't find anything that does that properly.
That's the best home automation video I have seen you have a really nice setup thanks for sharing
Imagine listenning to music in your bed at 2 a.m. then suddenly hearing
" Front room door opened "
Szabo Adam That should be a horror movie 😱😱
Szabo Adam You can open Doors?
No
UUUUUUUUMMMMMM, that is a reality. Here is what you need. ua-cam.com/video/4S89XWMXxBs/v-deo.html
Imagine after hearing that I rack my shotgun
Thank you for taking the time to show us all your home automation setup.
Amazing setup man! You're surrounded by all cool and latest tech. You should consider making a tutorial video of this setup too!
Peter, PLEASE tell us how you have the door open announcements setup.
2:21 "It's great! You can walk into rooms, turn lights on and off"
I'm so glad, cause previously I was unable to do this by conventional means
Hey man, I'm trying to watch your video but that "motion stabilization" is making me motion sick :(
I'm not sure if it's the youtube effect or an effect on your smartphone or whatever, but please disable it for future videos if you haven't already.
Cool setup though!
It's image stabilization from the camera.
Your home automation is #GOALS!!! This is brilliant!!
Peter you have an awesome Home Automation setup.
You even controlled my lights because my Echo heard you.
Thats how the earth will end. One series of echo commands, skynet starts, nukes launch.
It controlled mine too but instead of lights, it blared music and got my neighbors mad at me. :(
kimura kano i already tied that, i told Alexa to "Kill All Humans" and she said "no" to me lol followed by "im not dangerous"
HAHAHAHA LOL
for the man, not too manly enough to tell other men that they got their shit controlled by another man. this new age is really intresting
-Alexa open the bedroom door
-I'm sorry Peter, I'm afraid I can't do that
- shit :/
one day lol
Nice smart home! What rgb lights are you using over your blinds? They are nice and I don't see wires.
I'd recommend a projector to finish that setup. I just got the Epson 5030ub and it changes lives.
Great setup! What are you using to monitor your home on the big screen?
+Rameen Kazerooni I use a cheap DVR based system. This brand is qsee
Peter Anania What software do you use to monitor the sensors around your place, i was told that this can only be done through the Smartthings App.
+Rameen Kazerooni Smartthings is great for that! They include their Smarthome Monitor which works seamlessly with any sensors connected to the system.
+Rameen Kazerooni Looks like Smarttiles

+Jeff Pierre I think I answered my own question. You are using StatusThing running on a Mac connected to Alexa's Bluetooth. Genius!!!!
이게 무려 4년전 것인데, 이때 이미 이정도로 홈 오토메이션을 구현을 했다니,,
참 대단 하다 !!
Love the speakers what are they ?

Cool setup!
great setup can you make video series of toturial?
We need to understand a lot more about what you call the "Smartthings Unit". Where did you get the app? Is it custom?
Amazing setup. Great job. Great video.
Hello, the fact that your amazon echo tells you which door or sensors is opened or closed? What handled this? Smartthings or Echo and how? also how are you using all your speakers? connected to 1 amplifier with bluetooth or jack? thank you

The line out is obviously going to an amplifier which is running the speakers
I love your house. That is awesome
great setup bro.... I want to get there some day
Amazon has been teasing us with a future capability of "push notifications". When (if) they finally do that, it'll be a huge step forward for Home Automation. Come on Amazon ...get it going..!

Cool setup. I'm looking to get an Echo. This was really informative and impressive. Thanks for taking the time to do the video.
So, how did you do this? What should I buy for the lights? I checked the info bar but there isn't a link. Please tell me.
