I have two tuners, and neither registers a Gb or a Db. Very odd. I can't tune by ear, so I guess I won't be playing half a step down.

That's not true. You should tune an acoustic guitar very slowly, almost delicately. As for the timing, the more you play, amd the better you get, you'll be able to tune to another person's instrument naturally
