    I have been in this hifi hobby 30+ years. I have owned Revel, Dynaudio, and Martin Logan speakers, just to name a few.
    I have owned Q Acoustics Concept 500s past 3 years, and they are my all-time favorite speakers I have ever owned.

    Jay, im a newbie, but i totally enjoy your in depth knowledge and info, and your suggestions! I've just Retired after 37 years with a Major retail- wholsale company, not related to Wally World 😆! Im assembling my sound room from scratch now, ohhh what fun! !!! Theres so much to choose from to nuild it from ground up , nut still have a budget. I grew up extremely poor , and a very broken home, worked my fingers to the bone, while o was the first to obtain a degree from college . Yes , it was tough and heart breaking at times, but Jesus cleared a path for me, and its been a Blessing to say the least. Im having alot of fun building my little safe place and enjoying my collection of albums and tapes. Thank you for all you do and have done for so many! Godbless you and your family Jay, and keep teaching and sharing .... There's no price you could on what you've given to us all☺️👍 Take care ✝️🛐❤️🙏☺️👍

    After dozens of speakers owned and demo'd from £1000 to £18000 i finally settled on some Concept 500's. Literally every box ticked. The standouts being the soundstaging... never known speakers disappear as such.... perfect tonality and amazing dynamics.... ease of placement and drive with single ended triodes.... build quality and finish, perhaps the best version of black gloss ive ever witnessed in the history of black gloss!

    Jay is dangerously close to Zeos' territory - falling madly in love with a new pair of bookshelf speakers every 6 weeks ;). OK - my jealousy aside, being able to A-B the TAD speakers with ANYTHING from Q Acoustics, Monitor Audio etc would be a dream for most of us.

    I really wish reviewers like you would try to give us a demo recording. I know a few folks have honed in on a setup, and that YT compression and myriad factors present the listener with a less-than experience (vs in-person), but I swear all nice speakers elicit similar reactions from reviewers.
    Not at all a criticism or you, guess it's just the paradigm of HiFi reviews over this medium :)
    Thanks for bringing us different tiers of speakers!

    given the tonal qualities you enjoy, I highly recommend you try british speakers such as Spendor and Grahm Audio.... maybe start with the LS3/5 clones and work your way up the lines. The flatest passive speakers stereophile ever measured was the Spendor D7. In my room they are perfection, play down to 25 hz with room gain, and the mids are sublime. I also love the Grahm Audio 8/1. On a side not, I am glad you use measurements to supplement your impressions.

    • @RennieAsh
      @RennieAsh Рік тому

      The off axis isn't the flattest though (and there is a little bump on axis). It may be a sound you like. I have speakers that do something similar with narrow woofer directivity then widening to a tweeter. It can sound nice if done right. It's probably why the midrange sounds clearer, due to less reflections to smear

    I listened to these speakers at Florida Audio Expo, as well as the Concept 500, 50, 30. The 300 was by far my favorite. It does need a sub to deliver fullness. Midrange, highs and soundstage are excellent. Neutral transparent delivery is surprising for a speaker with a soft dome tweeter. However, for the price they're in competition with some very good new & used floorstanders. In Canada you can find floor demo Paradigm Persona 3f (retails new for $12KUSD) for $5kusd. The Persona 3f is far superior to the Concept 300 and 500.

    Very intersting comparision with TAD (a speaker on my wishlist) and the Q's. I had the Q's for a couple of years and they're a fantastic speaker, especially at their price. I have a pair of custom built stand mounts that cost $4000 in parts when made (about five years ago) and it was A LOT closer than you'd think. I kept my customs just beause the imaging was a fraction better. Seems the TAD might not represent the step up that their price would have dictate.

      The 1TDx is a great speaker that gets scary close to sonus fabers or TADs (slightly more towards TADs imho) but it is not on equal grounds and while the finished versions are still amazing value, the real “WOW value” comes from building it yourself as a DIY kit.

      What does price have to do with sensitivity? The energy consumed by the crossover is surely well spent so long as the sound is good. If your requirement is for high sensitivity, then for you it is settled but I don't think price is a factor in that.

    • @tomwebb7091
      @tomwebb7091 Рік тому

      What is wrong with people lol. These are an easy impedance load. Q-Acoustics are one of a very select few whose sensitivity and impedence ratings are bang on what they claim when acually measured. Most companies are 2 to 3db optimistic in real tests. 84db for 1w at 1m in a listening space that these are designed for (ie SMALL) is ALOT of volume. Even a 30w valve amp will drive them to decent levels. Of course they could have given them more sensitivity but they have to sacrifice bass extension and these speakers do bass unlike most small speakers with a front baffle of such modest size.
      Time to get real.

    I wish you would add 30 sec clips of the various products you review on your channel so that we could get a sense of what you're describing.
    Yes, I know, the sound would be bastardized by the dreaded UA-cam's compression and most mobile phones mics are ill adept for capturing sound. Yet, some can do an admirable job so don't discount it. Besides, you could buy a good digital recorder with built-in mics and problem solved. Also I think if you use less known music and if you keep the clips under 30 seconds you will avoid any copyright flags.
    Just a humble suggestion. You review a lot of cool stuff and often they have poor distribution in this country. Not everyone can afford to try something before hearing it and take the hit if it's not a good match in their system.

    10:23 "Contrast" That's what I refer to as a speakers 'Black Level'
    Think of it this way: An OLED TV is said to have better black levels than an LCD screen. This results in better separation of the desired image separating it from the background. For example, picture a night scene in a black forest where you can see a camp fire dimly lit through the trees. The fire place is clearly visible, separate from the background and the forest fades to black with no visual 'banding' an artifact you always see on LCD screens.
    In a speaker the ability to separate an image from the 'mix' is as Jay describes is 'Contrast." This is what I call a speakers "black level." The details of the image is more detailed because like the TV analogy, is 'lifted' out of the background. PS Audio's new FR30 does this very well... but I can't afford them!

    • @RennieAsh
      @RennieAsh Рік тому

    How people can belive that QAcoustic 300 are Better than TAD😂?? Just to share my experience, I have heard those speakers a couple of years ago because I liked the aesthetic and, at the dealer shop, I compared with Totem Fire V2, Piega Coax 311 and some Elac's model. Obviously I got the the amazing Piega (best standmount under 7k€ ever), but QAcoustic stand speakers was really playing in another very low category from any point of view, precision, sound stage, speed, voice, mid... even Elac PL100 were better. For me clearly😜. I still have the Coax 311 and I purchuased the Mofi Sourcepoint 10, sound Is correct and "granitic" but I had Just half hour of time. Too early for real impressions.
