    Ah, Ron has awakened to the idea of sub/satellite combos. Welcome to the club. It's better, because after all, where your midrange and treble sounds good, may not be the best place for the bass. So, place them each where they sound best I say! Anyway, good review, now you know why I got these over the 500s and why they remain a reference point in our arsenal to this day despite not getting dragged out ever single time for comparison. Sometimes, you just need a good, solid, jack of all trades speaker and the Concept 300 is THAT speaker. Good job, good review!

      To be fair he was pushing for sub/sat combos for a while, Jay put out a vid where he asked 5 guys for preferences (floorstanders vs. Sub/sat) and Ron was the only one vying for subsat. That was about two years ago I think.

      @@andrewrobinsonreviews yes not that difficult for the few people who know what they're doing and have proper dsp and know how to use it and even take measurements. But most people dont have that or know how to tune something like that and or use a single sub and just adjust the settings on the back of the sub. 99 percent of people also turn their sub up too loud. Every single system I ever heard even with giant REL subs they're set too loud and just dont blend in general. Reading audio forums with people using auto calibration they always complain they cant hear the sub and go in and turn them up manually. There is that 1 percent though that know what they're doing.

Question that either you or fellow subscriber can answer....is there a decent (affordable) A/B switcher on the market that i can use to quickly compare audio of two different sets of towers (i have banana plugs but can build RCA conv if necessary)? Like flick a switch - listen to a pair of A's, flick switch again - listen to pair of B's for quick compare during same known audio. Thanks....

    9:00 always makes me a bit jealous where he places his speakers in the room. Someday I hope to own a house with a room dedicated only to 2-channel speakers without the "colorations" of life, such as other uses for that room, furniture placement in the room, walk paths, etc. Every home I've ever lived in has required my speakers to be within 1-1.5 ft of a wall.

    Ron as you know context is critical (i.e. the room, speaker placement, accompaning electronics, the BUDGET). For those who like truly transparent speakers, with an expansive soundstage (they are slightly bright) Paradigm's Persona 5F & 7F are the ones for you. I've auditioned the Concept 500 (Floorstander of course), and it is a clean sounding speaker, but not in the class of the Persona line. Of course the 5F is more than double the price of the Q concept 500, four times the 300.
    For those who enjoy the 'resonance effects' i.e. coloration produced by intentional flawed cabinet design check out the Scottish brand Fyne Audio (former Tannoy engineers & mngt.).

    • @Newrecordday2013

      In those situations, I’d try something that damps the sound, rather than couples it like a spike would. Spikes generally work better in softer materials to help stabilize the speaker and couple it to the substrate or floor.

    Good ol’ Karl. Every violin or acoustic guitar depends on resonance for its sound. But there is a big difference between a device that produces sound (the violin / guitar) and one that reproduces it (the loudspeaker). Constrained layer damping is not a foreign or new concept. Several DIYers and high end companies have used this. Karl Heinz Fink and Q Acoustics just employed it to bring it to a lower price point. I am waiting for them to produce a “Concept 700” using 2 180mm (7”) woofers, 100mm (4”) midrange and tweeter and “Concept 700C” using the same driver compliment for a center channel (W MT W). They already have a Concept 200:Active out. What left is a 400 (big bookshelf), 600 (small floor standing), 700/700C, and a 1000 (Flagship/Statement).

    Based on Andrew's recommendation of the 300s and yours of the 500s I picked up a pair of these when they were on sale in January.
    I live in a London apartment, the stand isolation is amazing when high speed trains go by - the building shakes but the speakers don't move. Nor do they transmit any vibration to the wooden floors.
    Of course I use them with a pair of small subs, and a miniDSP with REW & Dirac to sort out the room modes. Mine have to be much closer to the front wall as a living room in a London apartment is a very different space to a dedicated listening room in a Texas house.
    The bass is lovely, the mids superb, the highs are all there and are never fatiguing. And the soundstage? Sublime.
    Glad to see you like them too, and not surprised, but even if you didn't it wouldn't bother me, I love these speakers and I love them more as time goes by.

      Interesting. What's the model number of the MiniDSP you're using? Is it the one with integrated Dirac Live? I've yet to try Dirac Live and I'm curious how well it works for satellite & sub combos like yours.

    OK, obviously not a budget speaker, but Q Acoustics high-end line. But 4,500 bucks?!
    What does this speaker have that for example an ELAC UniFi Reference, or ELAC DBR62, or a CSS Audio Criton Speaker - etc. etc. - the list goes on - doesn't have?
    Is the Concept 300 really better? If so, how much better? Is it 2%, maybe 5% better, and if yes - and that's a big *if* - are those 2-5% worth paying an extra $ 3,500 or more?
    Tough sell, if they were $ 2,500 bucks I'd say they'd be more competitive, but at this price point I'm surprised they're not made out of Gold:)

    @AmazonasBiotop 3 роки тому +2

    Great video!
    But the bottle analogy were totally off.
    The bottle is EXACTLY what EVERY bass reflex ported speaker use even the concept 300..
    It is Helmholtz resonance:
    * the bottle enclosure volume (speaker box volume)
    * The length of the bottle neck (length of the speaker port)
    * The cross section area of the bottle opening (the diameter of the speaker port)
    Buy adjusting those 3 parameters so that the meet a desired target frequency for a speaker manufacturer to fill in the lowest frequencies that the woofer can't produce.
    So as we see that resonance is highly desired and calculated/tuned to be there.
    So unfortunately it is misleading to state something else.
    I understand Ron what you were trying to achieve here but the bottle example is that we usually use precisely to demonstrate a Helmholtz resonator.
    (You can try more or less liquid to simulate different enclosure volumes in the bottle and it will give higher and lower frequencies. The same with longer and shorter bottle neck and so on)
    For hifi Helmholtz can be used as a room treatment. If you for example has a room mode with +10db @70 Hz. Then you can build and tune a box that is tuned at exactly 70 Hz that will bring down X dB @70hz depending on its volume and so on. The benefit is that that this treatment works very efficient at just one very narrow frequency band..
    Keep up the great work!🙏👍🎵🎶💕

    Amazing, finally a new Concept 300 Review ... I'm struggeling which Speakers to get right now - Concept 300's or Buchardt S400 MK II's with their Stands ... technically the Concept's are even more interesting. I'm afraid the S400's will suit my style of hearing more .. I want to get some Arendal 1961 Sub(s) in the near future, until then I need to be happy with the Bass delivered - and I guess the S400's will win over the Concept 300's for me .. that's such a hard decision - beautiful they are - both!

    That’s a really nice designed speaker. Although the „Q“ looks kind of cheap imho. Not the best solution. And although I get the idea of speaker and stand being a concept, the price of the stand is ridiculous. Actually even laughable, if you think of the production costs(50$-100$?) take care and thanks

    • @wisetank135
      @wisetank135 2 роки тому

      that is quite normal price for official stands, if you check out other brand's stands, the price by q acoustics is quite average.

    Open baffles and ROUND boxes. Flat panels of every design are problematic and require enormous compensations to eradicate, to redact the needless vibrations. As shown here.

    The best "speaker mounts" I ever heard having a positive effect, was not a stand at all. My speakers were being suspended from small chains from above. Had heard the effect in two different systems. In a phone conversation I had with Dick Sequerra (it was concerning his Met 7 mk ll speakers I was listening with at that time) he concurred with me. He said that its a most excellent way, for he had his personal speakers hung also. The problem is when hooks need to damage the cabinet's perfect finish on top. Small 'hook and eye turnbuckles' were implemented to hold the chains to the speaker cabinet, so that fine adjustments in length could be made in leveling out each speaker. The speakers breathed and it opened up the bass and over all sound in a pleasing way... If someone could find a way to mount speakers this way without damaging the finish it could prove very interesting.

      How about using flat brass picture chain? Fix two chains to the back of speaker.the front two can be fixed by using the top two bass mid mounting screws.

    • @genez429
      @genez429 2 роки тому

      @@cliffordking3722 As long as they are strong enough... yes. I would not mess with the speaker mounting screws to hang them. It will not hand properly When the cabinets are suspended from the top the cabinet becomes like a plumb bob.

    • @genez429
      @genez429 2 роки тому

      @@cliffordking3722 That would be most likely unstable. And,, you could not adjust both speakers to angle exactly the same. They need to hang like a surveyor's plumb with all weight hanging down. If you screwed the speaker cabinet to a stationary mount it would choke the sound. I learned this the hard way. Someone might construct a frame to go around the speaker cabinets that is high enough to allow for some chain use. That was what I once thought would be a great way to do it. The problem, again. Is putting holes in the cabinet on top to place the hooks for the chains.
