    The Bunn filters are a little bigger/taller. They make a big difference.

      Yep, I know the difference with the Bunn filters. Unfortunately, we only had store filters on hand at the time that this happened.

    I don't know if you still have the same machine but its come to my attention that Bunn has a restricted flow spray head you can order from them in regard to overflow issues. Why they don't make that the standard part in the machine is beyond me.

    I've had a Bunn for many years and love it, but have had this problem periodically over the years. I have always bought the cheap store brand coffee filters, thinking they are all the same, however, with the last batch I purchased recently, every single pot bubbled over and made a mess all over the counter and left lots of grounds in the pot. after seeing this post and some others like it, I tried poking holes all over the filter and unfortunately it made little to no difference. Every pot - huge mess. I was ready to trash the coffee pot and buy a new one, but thought I would give the Bunn brand filters a try first. Everyone was saying you can only buy them on line, but my wife found them at our local Walmart. (not where the coffee is sold, but near the actual coffee pots) Long story short, "all filters are not the same"! Apparently, the Bunn filters are much higher quality and are also a bit taller. Since the change, I haven't had one single spillover. No more cheaping out on the store brand filters for me! I think the problem is that the paper on the cheap filters is too dense and the flow is restricted and the reason why it may not happen all the time for some is simply due to inconsistent manufacturing processes where some are ok and some are just too dense.

      udahman2 this was the first time I had a batch of the cheap filters do this to me. I chalked it up to quality control on this lot being crappy. It seemed like when I poked the holes all over and I mean a lot of holes it would be fine, but the few pots others made while visiting and things would spill all over even though holes were poked. I don't think they were poking enough or going through all the way. Anyway, me being cheap wanted to use up all the ones I had and not waste them. Once they were done, I got a box of the bunn coffee filters. I agree they are definitely better quality and are much taller. I haven't had an issue since. I'm glad you found the same thing. I thought it was my maker too at one point and wasn't too happy since it was only about 6 months old! Thanks for sharing.

    You have to use Bunn filters in a Bunn coffee maker. They are taller and designed for a large inrush of water. Standard coffee filters are for drip coffee makers that drip much slower than a Bunn. They are less than 1 cent a filter at Walmart.

    Never had this problem until recently. Used it for 12 years, replaced the 'ON' switch after about 5.
    Stopped using it for about a year because it needed a deep cleaning, but we had a Mr Coffee sitting in the closet which my wife had won in a raffle, so we just put the Bunn on the shelf.
    After I finally got around to doing the deep clean, started using it again and it soon started to overflow.
    Poking holes or wetting the bottom of the filter before putting in grounds are two solutions I've seen, will give them a try.

    I have the same Bunn. I’ve always used Bunn brand filters, and have overflow events probably 40% of the time. Not happy with this $100 POS from a reputable brand. My fix is to periodically open the refill lid to stop flow into the basket and slightly pull out basket to view the water level. Tired of babysitting this. Should be able to walk away and not come back to a mess!!! Eff you Bunn for selling shi* products!!!

      Greg Bacon This was actually very frustrating for us as well and I agree, these units are not cheap, so there should not be issues. I actually contacted Bunn not too long after this video because I started having some leaking from other places. I was still within warranty, so I got a new unit from them. I have heard that if you are not within warranty, then they offer a discount on a new unit. I got the unit replaced and I haven't had any overflow issues since. The main reason I did this video was because it was hard to come by Bunn filters where we live and at the time it didn't justify the shipping charges they were charging from their website to get a pack of filters. Now, I can get free shipping, so I just order a pack of Bunn filters every few months and am good to go. I did notice with the old unit that I had to clean it with vinegar pretty often. We had hard water in our old house and not sure if that contributed to all the issues we were having. According to the Bunn customer service, that was the first thing they said when I explained the leaking issues. When I would clean it, it would cooperate for a while before having leaking issues. While, I am annoyed that I went through all that with the first unit, I was pleased with dealing with customer service. They were willing to make the issue right. Thanks for
      watching.

      Thanks for the comment. Yes, I can now find them at my local Walmart and even runnings. I did this video before they were easily available in my area for anyone else who might have the same issue and cannot get bunn filters or want to use up the old ones first!

    POUR water in much slower and WAIT 30 - 60 seconds BEFORE you close the lid ... BUNN filters or equivilant size, should work available at GFS (gordon food) stores, if you have one, The filter number on my bag is 6006, they come in a bag of about 500 or they used to.

    This happened to me. We buy the huge box of filtersat Sam's club. Don't buy the ones at Costco because they don't work. Sam's club filters, They have always worked fine for the last 3 years and then a couple weeks ago there must have been some bad filters in there and that exact same thing that happened to you happened to us! must have been a weird filter issue? Sometimes if they're not tall enough this will happen but these are definitely tall enough they are the same size as bun. Somehow they were too thick. But just wanted to let you know the coffee filters at Sam's club are the same size as bun nice and tall

    Bunn filters are taller then regular filters. Which is needed because water comes out much faster. which is good because the longer you soak the grounds the more bitter the flavor they produce. The problem is the price of their filters (here where I live) comes out to 10 cents or more a filter. But I can get normal filters or 1/3 of a cent a piece. So to spend 1/30th the amount I am trying to rig normal filters to work.

      @mrsmel269  6 років тому

      Robert Mitchell Yes, the struggle is real. I decided I would try and order from their website a few months ago and it was good until I put in everything and shipping popped up. They wanted to charge me more to ship the item than it actually cost. Nope. My parents can find the filters pretty easy by them so when they visit they bring some with, otherwise I try and make regular ones work too. Thanks for watching!

    I truly don't understand this hack.. the time it takes to poke tuns of holes in a coffee filter around in a circle. If the coffee filters don't work just return them most stores in the U.S. have return policys in place . In the instructions booklet of this machine it will tell you you need to use special bunn filters for it because the brew basket is taller than normal.

    • @mrsmel269
      @mrsmel269  6 років тому

      james cook I don't live close to big grocery stores so I am not going to drive all the way back to the store just to return coffee filters. I will take the time to poke the holes in the filter. Yes, I'm well aware that the coffee maker states I should use bunn filters. It's like most products they want you to use their brand of items. However, I didn't have them readily available at the store here and really didn't want to wait for them to come in the mail until I could have a cup of coffee. Some things don't work for everyone. This is what worked for me at the time. Thanks.
