A friend is in terminal care for brain cancer, he will be gone soon. I put my phone on his chest with this beautiful music playing while holding his arm. He could barely speak but noded to the song. I knew he would love that. Music is very powerful. LOTR is so impactful... so much inspiration, emotions and wise lessons. Who knew an assembly of words on paper could spun such magic. Oh to be 17 years old again and witnessing Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring on the big screen for the very first time in December 2001. No IPhones, no social media - just a packed auditorium witnessing Tolkien’s legendary tale come to life.
I was 15 in 2001 and had never even heard of LOTR. As fate would have it, a friend of mine from school got me to go cinema with him and watch this. Keeping mind I had no idea about the story, the end left me a bit puzzled. I endes up watching the two sequels at cinema, too. Have since watched the extended copies over a dozen times, read the books and even read other books such as the Silmarillion and hurin. Amazing world set out by Tolkien! I just absolutely love it!
We are the same age. It came out my senior year of HS. Was blown away. I couldn’t wait to meet up with my HS pals during college break to see the last two installments. I watch the series every December and I’m transported back to a wonderful time in my life.
Amit Kumar I firmly believe that Sam should've been the ring-bearer. He always saves frodo, he sticks his neck out for him, and he even sees through gollum's lies and deceptions. He is honestly more brave and capable then frodo, who almost always gets captured.

When I first saw the movies as a kid, I must admit that I didn't quite like the Hobbits and their 'foolish' and 'uninteresting' lives. 20 years later I finally understand, that it is not a bad thing, my friends, to live a simple and peaceful life.

"In a hole in the ground... There lived a Hobbit... Not a nasty, wet, dirty hole full of worms and oozy smells... This was a Hobbit hole, which means, good food, a warm hearth, and all the comforts of home..."
I remember when I watched the LOTR Trilogy for the first time, I finished it in at a Sunday at 6:40 AM, seeing the credits roll as the night became morning is with the bluer sky is the most surreal yet fitting experience ever. These movies are irreplaceable, just wonderful features from beginning to end.

@@NaesGalaxy Basically this was Gandalf addressing the hobbits when himself Bilbo and Frodo were departing for ever from middle earth to the grey havens that although they wept with sadness it was OK to cry for not all tears are born from evil deeds or consequence.try to inquire and learn instead of branding dismissive labels when things don't make sense to you..p.s not hating on you just trying to help expand your perspective on that which don't immediately make sense to you.peace
@@NaesGalaxy Imagine someone you've known and loved your entire life will set sail to a land far beyond and you'll never see them ever again. It's bittersweet rather than an act of evil or cruelty that usually draws tears.
On September 29, he, Gandalf, Elrond, Galadriel, and Frodo boarded a ship docked at the Grey Havens and sailed away from Middle-earth. His fate afterward is not known but as he too was a mortal being, he most likely died in the light of the Blessed Realm of Valinor.
In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort. Thank you Tolkien for being such an influence.
"Roads go ever ever on, Over rock and under tree, By caves where never sun has shone, By streams that never find the sea; Over snow by winter sown, And through the merry flowers of June, Over grass and over stone, And under mountains in the moon. Roads go ever ever on Under cloud and under star, Yet feet that wandering have gone Turn at last to home afar. Eyes that fire and sword have seen And horror in the halls of stone Look at last on meadows green And trees and hills they long have known. " Every time I read Bilbo's poem, it's set to this melody in my head. Howard Shore really just nailed that feeling of home here.
This triology, this music and the story of the little Hobbit helped me so much with my anxiety. It makes me feel like one day everything will be okay. Right now it might be hard, sad and scary but one day this pain will be over. It will feel like coming home after a long journey and I will be safe with no worries. Maybe this will never come true, I honestly don’t know, but it gives me the strength to go on, to keep walking. Hopefully I will learn from this journey and when I come home I might not be the same person as when I left, but that’s good, because I’ll be okay.
People here comment about how they want for a wizard to come to their front door with fireworks, but what if they’re the wizard all along? What if they just forgot they stashed their fireworks away, and their Bilbo is waiting for them to knock on his door? Be the Gandalf you always wanted in your life. Help others find their place in life, and bring magic to everyone around you. That’s what it truly means to be a kind person, and an even better friend.
Cookie Mom You are a wonderful person! Thanks so much for this comment. You are right so often do we keep waiting for our Gandalf that we forget to be that Gandalf to for others:) This is a wonderful reminder to love and help one another. Thank you again and have an absolutely wonderful SHIRE DAY!
I was just listening to this out loud reading the comments... How many memories are left here, how much love and sorrow I saw here... A whole world and history is left, and I'm still listening to this for over a hundred years... Time passes so fast, I miss my forest life, I miss my friends back there where we could just pretend we're heroes and kings, playing for eternity... Time by time, everything changed when we were suddenly apart, by the Masters in the village or some kind of love we found hiding behind a tree... I WANT TO GO BACK TO MY VILLAGE, WHEN I WAS 6 YEARS OLD... I MISS MY MATES SO BAD, AND IT'S ALL BECAUSE OF THIS TRILOGY
As we grow older we realize that a peaceful life like that of the shire is what we really desire. Simple work, coming home to a warm and merry atmosphere, and sitting down on the porch with a cup of tea and pipe weed. The life of a hobbit is simple yet wholesome
This music throw me back to time, when I was young, dad was alive and together with my mom they were behind my back, protecting me and providing not money, but smile on my face. Decades after, I'm just turned 25, thousands of miles away from my mom, dad had passed year ago as well as the war started so I had to emigrate . Now there's a tremendous earthquake in a country where I'm living for a moment. I don't know, how it'll be, but I know for sure, when I'll feel like it's a time, I'll turn these movies on, sit back and jump back to the good old days, when the biggest problem was to do homework. Sound of the childhood. Thank you.
Tolkien actually wrote that on the paper of a student who was in his class....one of the greatest series of books in the 20th century started when a bored teacher decided to kill a little time before the bell rang!

This just makes me want to run into the woods and gaze with reverence at every living tree and plant. Lying in the moss and looking at the greatness of the universe at night. Magnificent
No matter how much we deny it. This is true. By looking at suffering and loss of others we don't want to left our comfort. This was the essence of this preposition, i believe.

Over grass and over stone,
And under mountains in the moon.

Under cloud and under star,
Yet feet that wandering have gone
Turn at last to home afar.

And horror in the halls of stone
Look at last on meadows green
And trees and hills they long have known. "

“It’s all wrong By rights we shouldn’t even be here. But we are. It’s like in the great stories Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were, and sometimes you didn’t want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy. How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad happened. But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow.
Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something. Even if you were too small to understand why.
But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand.
I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back only they didn’t. Because they were holding on to something. (...) there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it’s worth fighting for. “
