- Even though this Mac I older and unsupported. It is still a great laptop for someone needing a budget laptop with good specs.

It’s actually not a simplo battery, the bms on those third party batteries is programmed to be registered as a simplo battery
Wow good to know. Thank you
Now you must upgrade to Sonoma. I just did it on my 2012 MacBook Pro 16GB RAM and 500GB SSD. Easy Peasy even for a 77 year old grandmother. Now I just have to replace the speakers and my Mac will be like new.
Did you use the OpenCore Legacy Patcher to do that?
@@LeeStewartis any other tool than OCLP tho?
@@LeeStewart yes
Aside from the awesome content, your videos give me 2010-2014 YT era vibrs for some reason. It feels nostalgic and entertaining to watch while learning stuff about Macs 😊
I love that! Best years.
Another great video!
Thank you!
Great Value wish the stickers were there
Man, coincidentally I bought a $100 maxed 2014 MacBook Pro 15 inch for $100 on marketplace a few years back. I absolutely love that computer. Mine came with the original Applecare replacement box and the charger. I drove 45 minutes out to get it. It had minor liquid damage do the board but I cleaned it off with 91% isopropyl alcohol. It still needs a new battery. Absolutely love that MacBook. Great video !!
I used the disinfectant wipes to get that crap off one I bought used for about the same price $110 though it only has 8GB memory and smaller SSD and is a 2013. The screen looked awful and it definitely looks better being glossy instead of like glue residue all over it. Would recommend just doing the same it won't get any better looking keeping the coating on there.
Yeah disinfectant wipes work wonders when the screens look like crap. They definitely save the day and make the delaminated Mac’s look good
Never use Windex on electronics. That’s going to damage the coating on the screen way more than the disinfectant wipes you caution people against. Always use electronics screen cleaner.
I use disinfectant wipes to complete remove antiglare from the screens. Windex won’t do it.
@@JaydonWalter Me too worked good.
How much improvement does changing the thermal paste provide in real life? I have a 2015 15-inch MBP with dual GPUs, and it runs quite hot, reaching 70-80 degrees while using Chrome and sometimes spiking up to 95-99 degrees.
It absolutely helps. If you have not changed it then you should go ahead and do so. Your thermal paste is 99% likely to be completely dried out by now. Which in the long run can eventually cause you GPU and CPU to fail.
I use the spread method to put the paste on with the included scraper device so there is just a thin coating. Though, I've recently switched over to using PTM7950, which will never need replacing. And I use thermal putty for any thermal pads.
nice video! one question, how did u start buying and reselling MacBooks? thanks!
Do not use windex on these screens. The ammonia eats the reflective coating. You’re better off using water and soap on a microfibre cloth
That’s why I stated to not use disinfectant wipes. I didn’t know windex had ammonia. After all the studying and testing I have done on these Retina displays, windex has seemed to do nothing. I believe the ammonia is very weak in windex but very strong in disinfectant wipes.
This mac shows that it was produced in 2024 because legacycore was used to install unsupported macos.. this is not a problem
Open core legacy was not used to install this version of macOS as this Mac can run bigsur with no problem
No stickers? :( you got ripped
I know! 😭
Glass windex?? boy u shouldve used distilled water with a little bit of salt, or use lint free eyeglasses wipes
Too much work 😆
Good price for $100. Personally I would not do a meetup to pick up something from a seller for safety plus also you spend like 30+ minutes to go there and then another 30+ minutes to drive back. From the 1hour+ drive, purchase and replace the new battery, and cleanup, not sure how much would you have to price it to make a decent profit?
I will only pickup from people depending on their location. Some areas are bad some are good. I didn’t mind driving the 30 minutes since it was so cheap. After the new battery and what not I made $122
I got a maxed out 2015 (except on storage but that's upgradable) for less lol. It also needed a new battery
Nice! 2015’s are the best
@@JaydonWalter yeah their trackpad cables are amazing too!
That being said mine struggles to run Sonoma, which tells you a lot about how insanely, frustratingly and unnecessarily HEAVY this OS is.
The device itself is amazing!
Crazy deal, it has a discrete GPU too
SMH! I kinda want a 2015 macbook pro. My air from the same year seems to be overheating a ton, even with new thermal paste
They run pretty hot. Did you clean out the dust from the fans?
@@JaydonWalter Cleaned out the fans when I first took the Air apart (to replace the original 128gb ssd with a 1tb samsung 970 evo+, and new extended battery)
@@JaydonWalter I also replaced the thermal paste with (admittedly knockoff ptm7950) I got off of amazon
Where do you sell your computers at? I'm looking for a mid-2012 i7 pro 16gb, 2tb, DVD for just travel.
I sell on my Mercari store and Facebook marketplace. I don’t have a mid 2012 with DVD slot upgraded to those specs but I can certainly custom build you one. www.mercari.com/u/user464885474?sv=0
I would have spent a little more and got an M1. Worth it in the long run.
Very true. But then I would have spend $300 more just to get an M1 MacBook Air.
No doubt, M1 machines are still superb, but you missed the point. He buys, refurbs and flips Macs. The 'long run' only really applies if he is buying a machine for his own usage. There's money to be made on the older Intel machines.
