I do not own this music and vid. It is the bonus dvd from Ghost Reveries. So, if you like, please buy it. Recorded at Fascination Street Studios, 2005.
Idk why the best singers seem to be that way but they are. My friend is a singer and is constantly shutting on himself thinking he sucks but the guys pretty damn good. He loves Opeth I wouldn’t say he’s in Mikael’s level but he’s got the same feelings to his voice and same self depreciation.

@@israelthacker8568 Beyond the sickness, one of the main reasons Lopez left was because Mike basically doesn't let anybody write the music for Opeth. That hasn't changed, so unless Lopez is feeling nostalgic, there is little motivation for him to leave Soen.
I can't believe there's another Martin, but he goes by the name of "Axe". And Lopez, he's part of the band Soen right now. You can check out Soen if you want. Good thing Mendez is the other Martin that still plays for Opeth.
"There's not many bands who can continue to put out quality albums the way that we do." Mike is unburdened by things like humility. Never change, you awesome dude you.
THIS IS THE BEST ALBUM EVER WRITTEN. when i first watched this, after my good friend suggested it to me, right after it was released, it opened my eyes and ears up to a whole new level of musicianship. it made my taste what it is today.
Saw them play this album in its entirety couple of days ago in Norway. Amazing experience, one of their best albums for sure together with My arms Your hearse, Blackwater Park and Still Life!
Bought this album randomly at fye and holy shit did ot grow on me.. dont know why but it ended up becoming my all time favorite. Nothing compares to it
I remember there was a forum on MySpace where a bunch of music nerds like myself would argue about music. My first post was a question…”who’s better, Metallica or Iron Maiden?”. A very 18 year old question and definitely sparked an argument. “What a stupid question” etc. I digress. This is where I discovered Opeth. I bought this album which came with this DVD. Ahh MySpace…
The new Opeth albums without Lopez to me is what I'd describe as Porcupine Tree without Gavin Harrison, I still miss him but to be honest as time went by with multiple lineup changes their new style and sound kinda grew on me and I think the part of the reason is because no matter what people say, to me Mikael is the soul of Opeth and he's been consistently implementing his unique song writing skills and bringing new things to the table with each and every new album, which certain bands and artists of this era really fail to do. Also people should stop mocking about his growls because he's not the Mikael from 20 years ago people change with age and we should all be thankful that we got to enjoy such a wide catalogue of music with different styles, structures and flavours of sounds and songs from a single band which is really some next level shit.
He can't really, anymore. Years of Opeth, plus doing the full-time death metal growl for Bloodbath for a few years. That, and I believe he's a smoker. Those things + age tend to wreak havoc on your voice.
Now is the time to seize on Mike and let him know that although he abandoned a darker, less prog sound with Heritage we will still welcome the band with some less widdly, self indulgent toss. Axe is gone, I can't help feeling that the momentarily boon in retro prog that the band switched to will subside and all the the metalheads that stuck around all the way to Watershed would be glad of something like an evolution of the 'old' Opeth we love
Either way... I think this album was Lopez at the top of his game.. The drumming is inhuman! In fact, this was the best line-up of the band.. and in terms of musicianship, this album is out of this world.. Mike's right when he said that they consistently put out quality records.. But Ghost Reveries was Opeth at their peak.. The single most haunting, yet beautiful FLAWLESS masterpiece from one of the most special bands this world is likely to ever see!
JoRdOguitarman1 The melodies have nothing to do with each other and the rythms do neither. The drums are all over the place, the new drummer adds ghost notes to the snare drum all the time even though there's no need for it.
They keyboards on GR are fantastic and add to the album. They aren't overbearing, scatty or an assault on the ears. That's exactly what the keys have been since PC. Too much front-centre and focus on them. Too many widdly, pointless, meaningless passages that seem to be put in a song just for the sake of it.
Nowadays (or for the past 15 years really), if you listen to live renditions of older Opeth songs, they're drenched in keyboards for no reason other than that the keyboardist is there and has a keyboard in front of him. Just because you can technically add keyboards to a song like Wreath and give it more 'fullness', it doesn't mean you should. See also S&M by Metallica and the mostly pointless addition of strings and horns to songs that weren't written with that stuff in mind. It reminds me of a chef grabbing every bit of seasoning he sees just because it's available. Stick to the recipe please.
that is a valid point, but if he had a certain sound in his head for the album-i don't think he was going to settle for something that sounded 100% bare & sacrifice accomplishing putting his thoughts onto the record.
8:45, what model is that PRS guitar? There's too many PRS models I saw Michael playing a purple coloured one in a video that looks great. Are they just custom 22 and 24 models?
1:10. Damn, man. I love Mikael, and for everything he's given us over the years. He's a genius. Perhaps he knows this and it comes across as arrogance. To blanketly say all other bands have put out crap, but Opeth haven't. C'mon bro. Hilarious that since PC he's put out three crap albums in a row. I say he because let's be honest, it's 100% his decision, direction, and band.
That's not what "overproduced" means. Overproduced means that the producer has had too much input on the sound and production of the album. See: Bob Rock. "Ghost Reveries" is not overproduced. It is finely crafted. There's a difference.

Haha, that has to be Åkerfeldt's all-time best quote.
Mikael is so self depreciating when speaking about his singing.... He's got one of the best voices out there!

He literally said he thought this was his best performance vocal wise of any record 🤷🏼♂️
The better they are, the less they are satisfied with themselves... It's a musician fact 😀
Very Swedish to be self deprecating haha. This record was the peak!
good songs? good sound? good production? surely you mean legendary songs, legendary sound and legendary production

The drum fills in Harlequin Forest are godly!! Soooooo gooood

The Baying of the Hounds is their greatest death metal song.
I love death metal truly but the baying isn't a death metal song, maybe progressive death
beautiful
Totally agree with what Micheal said at the beginning ! It's true that not a lot of band can make quality albums...especially in the death metal scene

"We haven't done a shit album...yet", and directly after came Watershed and Heritage.
What's wrong with Watershed?
JoRdOguitarman1 The same thing that's wrong with Heritage; it's a disjointed directionless mess with cheesy vibrato vocals and annoying drumming.
How is it anymore directionless than Deliverance or Orchid? And the drums sound no different than on any other of their albums
