"This is like taking candy from a baby, which is fine by me." (inb4 a bunch of losers try to explain what the line really means or how it was poorly translated instead of just letting us have fun laughing at some silly dialog)
The gunplay itself is fine, dare I say even a bit fun, but that doesn't do much in the way of making things less tedious. It should come as no surprise that the missions where you just have to reach an end goal, or the occasional missions in which you collect / destroy a small handful of objects, seem to be the most well-liked parts of this game. That's when the game feels the most Sonic-like, after all. Which is why I think if there were more missions akin to these, and you could just choose any stage to continue from (instead of restarting from Westopolis every time you want to try a different story route), then Shadow The Hedgehog would've been a considerably better recieved game. Of course, gameplay-wise there would still be a bunch of other issues present (namely the slipperiness of controls & some poor enemy / obstacle placement), but what I've mentioned were easily the biggest offenders in my eyes, and the fact that they were so easily correctable on Sonic Team's part, makes the way things actually turned out all the more frustrating; It's like whenever they come up with a potentially fun new gameplay concept, they either rush it to meet a deadline or they don't think things all the way through, and honestly that's just sad to me. Funny / accurate video, though.
@Nobody comments are not funny you troglodyte The fun part comes in when you're blitzing by, spamming the button and mowing down any enemies that happen to get in your way. Unfortunately, much of the game wants you to hunt down each and every enemy one by one, and so that aspect gets lost a bit. What I like to do is go through the stage quickly and see how many I can demolish without back-tracking too much or exploring, then use the checkpoint warps to search for however many I missed. It's not super ideal or anything, but I do believe that was most likely the mode of gameplay that the developers intended.

Even if you haven't played the game it is boring to even be presented with the quest. It's very mechanical, "there are exactly 40 People you must shoot", seems like some arbitrary number. This is the same thing you'll get in fetch quests in some of the most boring, uninspired RPGs on the internet who are just repeating tropes and doing nothing original.
I distinctly remember Super Bunnyhop playing the first level of every Sonic game and, when he got to Shadow the Hedgehog, noting that some of the enemies he was supposed to kill hadn't shown up. Putting them behind the *end of the level* is just cheap.

But Since this undertale refence I'll just point out neutral is far from boring the ability to pick and choose who lives and dies is rather fun honestly. it's also the route with most replay value for instance you can do a Simi genocide run and kill everything that fights you, you can just kill characters you don't like, only kill bosses or only kill normal enemies but leave all bosses alive.
@@charsage1036 Honestly, I wasn't even trying to do a Undertale reference. Me: 💀
"We have to kill all of the black aliens in the city!"
No Sonic, you can't say things like that!
Lmao it really was like that. Heroic? Evil? Neutral? I went with whatever option was the most feasible and easiest as a kid 😂 Shadow’s morality was all over the place.
The funny part is, young me played the shit out of this game. Got the different endings, played Co-Op with a friend once.
Still couldn't help but laugh at
"I am Shadow the Hedgehog,"
as if that answers ANYBODYS questions during the endings. 💀
Imagine the whole game dubbed by this guy. It would be a masterpiece.
"Just wait till you get to Lost Impact" brought back memories I did not want.
Between Lost Impact and the ending where Eggman gets cracked open, I was so done with this game as a kid. It was the first game I played that I considered 'bad'.
It's bad and I knew it even then, but something about it's attempts to be edgy and cool are just endearing to me
Eggman gets cracked open? What?
@@darkwingerx20 In three different endings, Shadow kills Eggman. Yes, really.
Right when Sonic said, "Lost-" I winced in pain. I love the music on that level sooo much though.
I actually quite like Lost Impact. Now, The Doom is the real stinker of the group
Personally, i kinda hate The Matrix dark mission more. But yeah, the ark levels were so annoying
@@hugosilva400 Oh yeah, in terms of specific missions, Mad Matrix Dark is by far the worst one. But Mad Matrix also has the Hero Mission, which is fucking awesome.
The Doom has very no redeeming qualities overall. All of its missions, including the neutral one, are hot garbage.
@@KingKayro87yeah, i think i agree with everything you Said xD
Shadow stopping completely still as Sonic says "There's 45 of them!" slays me
I loved this game. I was shocked when I learned so many people didn't like it or hate it.
It’s awful
People tend to follow what "Influencers" think and Shadow is considered a edgelord (i consider him a badass tbh) and the trend is to hate edgelords and call them "cringy" has a result people follow the trend and hate this game
I love it the combat is a breath of fresh air with the blue and red power ups, make you go fast or go boom ,and the story is well made, making you choose what Shadow will become
"There's 45 of 'em!"
I'm dying 🤣🤣🤣
I like this game, it's really fun but I wish they could've limited the number of enemies to kill to complete the hero/dark mission.
Please let the memories stay sweet, I want to keep my rose tinted glasses on for just a little while longer
As someone who just consistently did the neutral missions I can confirm this was my mindset 9 out of 10 times
As a person who has played this game and has completed the hero mission on Lost Impact, I can confirm this statement is true. That mission took way too long and was way too tedious, especially with how they were hidden in the level. The only way I got through that mission was through sheer determination and having Maria there cheered me up since Shadow is my favorite sonic character and his backstory is amazing. Shadow will always be my favorite but after having already done Lost Impact, and getting to Central City, I just couldn't continue that game. There is nothing that could have made me continue after I got to Central City and even now I will never do that level. You make some good stuff dude, keep it up!
as someone who loves Lost Impact's OST and overall scenery I still get extreme PTSD over that level
I like how Shadow is so based he doen't bother moving to collect more rings
I know most of these comments point out the obvious racist implications of this remark out of context, but I also find it especially funny how ironic the situation is. Shadow, who himself is primarily black, is denouncing these aliens which he simply refers to as "black creatures."
And then you go through the last bit of the game...
@@sonicboy678 What's the sigificance of the last bit of the game?
@@KoolMutualAids "Shadow was created from Black Doom's blood," - direct quote from the wiki. You don't learn this until you play The Last Story.
In other words, Shadow is just another one of those "black creatures" he swears to destroy.
I love how authentic-looking the text is to match the dialogue, such a cool touch!
As a four year child my parents thought this was the perfect game for me
Even with all the damns
"Shadow, your first mission... is to bring me 120 precursor orbs."
I like how Sonic and Shadow breaks the fourth wall in this game.
This is funny and it sounds like they're voiced by the people from the fan dubs
One of my favourite games ever especially the missions, but this absolutely kills me. XD Also yeah, Lost Impact, god damn, that took a while to A rank.
Bravo getting that A rank!
Can't decide if Shadow's voice here is more sexy or sleep-inducing. It's both, really. He sounds so exhausted and done with it all.
Trying to 100% Shadow the Hedgehog be like:
Fun fact: the best speedrun of all the named routes is 180+ hours long.
@@inendlesspain4724 …you must actually be kidding. i’ve seen people speedrun botw, a game i’ve sunk 120+ hours into - _and still haven’t finished, by the way_ - and you’re telling me a 100% speedrun of this game is 180 hours? i really hope i’m misreading your comment, my guy…
@@kaphizmey6229 It's true, because you have to beat all the missions in game in every different order possible. Yo have to beat the game like a hundred of times
@@swordman824 326 endings, plus The Last Way and Hard Mode.
@@therighttrousers343 More like 326 route titles, with the same old 9 shitty endings
Oh my... This is the most relatable thing. I'm trying to do pure hero rout, and I'm on lost impact
It took me longer than I would like to admit to realize there was another section beyong the goal ring...
Holy shit "Lost Impact" gave me ptsd, I still remember the frustration all these years later
At least Sonic's honest
Shadow when he actually plays his favorite video game, Shadow the Hedgehog:
Honestly would love to see more videos on Shadow's game. Played it a lot as a kid, even the multiplayer mode. Lost Impact, definitely never lost any impact on me, oh what a stage.
“Fuck it, I’m just getting emeralds”
almost as hard as finding *THAT DAMN FOURTH CHAOS EMERALD.*
*that DAMN fourth chaos emerald
There, fixed it for ya.
@@VJ2099 Cheers.
Sonic's line should be 'hey shadow! You're farming for all the Endings right? Yeah good luck with that.'
Shadow when completing the Hero side:
“Disgusting black creatures. Get out of my sight”.
Black arms:🤨
Nice to see your Griffith impression is in point as well lol.
If someone modded the dialogue to this degree would definitely give the game replay value
"Just wait till you get to Lost Impact". I'm still having Lost Impact Hero flashbacks 10 years later gosh darn it!
The game is essentially a collectathon of death.
I havent played shadow the hedgehog in over a decade, but the words 'Lost Impact' brought me right back into the level and I can remember perfectly the exact room where I started completely losing my mind
