Given his family's backstory, you could argue the only reason that Eggman was ever evil at all was because the government was MORE evil in the first place.
@@Lethargy514 The follow up to SA2 should have been about taking down G.U.N. They probably want to get rid of anyone who knows what they did on the ARK, even if Gerald already revealed some of it to the world. You don't even really win against them in SA2. They wanted Shadow gone anyway.
Now that I think about it, there's a non-zero chance of a game just being Sonic and Eggman fucking over the government together. --Or is that just SA2?--
@@Sorrelhas Not explicitly, but it's sort of implied by SA2 that his initial motivation was carrying on his late grandfather's research (into things like the chaos emeralds, for example) while also securing a place for himself outside of the G.U.N.'s control (deforesting uninhabited islands to build factories and turning the local fauna into an army of robots loyal to him, which started the conflict between him and Sonic in the first place).
The egg memos from Frontiers indicate that Eggman had a bad home life as a direct result of Maria getting killed. His family would only talk about her, and would neglect him entirely. Given how frustrated he is about this even in the present day, I'd assume this period of neglect and comparison lasted for a good while.
Fun Fact: When my mom went in for her cancer treatment, the health insurance company found a loop hole where if she took more than 30 days off work consecutively they wouldn’t have to pay for her treatments. My mom was throwing up in the hospital getting her treatments while having to work 8 hour shifts on her laptop
I... You could argue that as violating two of the bioethical concepts that doctors and the like gotta follow. First, autonomy. Of course, the hospital would argue that the patient was going through a psychotic episode, and that they can't make "informed decisions". Which I would think is a load of bs in most cases, and besides, people typically have to want treatment for it to have a positive effect. Otherwise it's imprisoning someone, and then asking them to pay you for it. Second, non-maleficence. Again, forcibly admitting someone into a hospital is NOT good for their psyche, no matter the hospital's intentions.
@@dazeyndrowsy Generally forced admissions are reserved exclusively for people who are an immediate threat to others or themselves. Best example is the schizophrenic patient going on a psychotic rampage who will get others and themselves killed unless given treatment. That's how it's usually justified. What's not justified though is forcing that same schizophrenic patient a bill for tens of thousands of dollars that they'll probably never able to pay back. Something that, to my knowledge, only happens in the USA.

It's really, really hard to write a villain that's actually worse than most modern governments. Whenever some mad scientist type is screaming about taking over the world, I'm always like "Alright, let's hear him out."
You know the competition is rough when a villain makes a hammy grandstanding speech of taking over... and people filter in to listen, take seats, set up food stands, the whole nine yards.
Ted Faro, the main villain of Horizon: Zero Dawn and Forbidden West is the most disgustingly selfish, loathsome villain I've ever seen in a piece of media, and it's precisely because of how relatable to the modern world he is. I have no doubt in my mind that if we had access to the kind of tech that they do in the game's universe, Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos or someone would do EXACTLY the kind of thing Faro did.
I mean, anyone would be really hard pressed to write a villain who is capable of more harm solo than an entire conglomerate of individuals that have differing and extremely varied opinions on how aspects of daily life should work. Especially when those villains don't care about the consequences of good or bad actions. Villains are different because they only care about the short term goals and singularly minded ideologies that they follow, with other aspects not being important to them. The Government usually isn't *attempting* to commit atrocious acts, but often do so while trying to create a sustainable system they won't have to worry about, then it gets so deeply rooted into society that it can't be easily changed without tons of legal fallout. So yeah, if anyone can write a villain that is somehow more dastardly than a group of extremely varied people who are going on gut impulses on what will work and what won't, I'd love to see it.

@@Nanakokuroi2 Public healthcare in places like Canada and Europe are just as bad because they still don't provide access to care for lower and middle class people. In Europe and Canada, there is no private healthcare insurance market, since the governments have regulated them out of business. (Not to say America's private insurance companies are wholesome family businesses that care about their customers or anything). But ultimately, lower and middle class people in Canada and Europe HAVE to use public healthcare because it's the only thing available. Immediate, on demand, high quality care is still only available to the rich who can either pay under the table to get it, or pay to go to America so they can pay out of pocket for it. Public healthcare is severely crippled by the fact that anything the government touches goes to shit. Doctors are underpaid, so there are way less of them, which means that the ones that they have are seriously overworked. Lack of resources as a result of this means that you have extreme wait times for basic care. You can have an emergency surgery, like a heart stint (which you can get in 30 minutes in America), take upwards of 90 days to finally happen. That's three months or more where you could die of heart failure at any moment. And if it's not classified as an "emergency surgery" then you're even more boned, and people can wait several years for much needed treatment. On top of that, they are always looking to cut costs in their budget, and those costs are people's lives. So very regularly, the government will decide that you're not worth saving and will try to cut you off from your care. If you're a retired, 65 year old man with prostate cancer, then you're not collecting income, and thus not paying income taxes, so you're not going to be making the government any more money. Thus, you're not worth the government saving. The governments would rather save a young, reasonably healthy 20 year old who will continue paying income taxes for the next 40 years, and they'll tell the 65 year old to beat it. More literally, they do what is known as MAID, medical assistance in dying. Essentially euthanasia. If you're medical needs cost their healthcare system more than they deem you worth, then they recommend commiting suicide via injection instead. This isn't even reserved for terminally ill patients, either. You have people who simply have a bad hip and request assistance in putting a stair lift in their home, and the doctors say that they should commit suicide instead of getting a stair lift (that's an actual example of something that happened in Canada). So ultimately, their public healthcare systems might get people mediocre treatment if they don't die waiting for it, unless they're super wealthy and can afford to pay for a better alternative.

The USA's educational system is honestly even worse. They've given proprietary control of what is allowed to be taught in public schools to corporations decades ago, and the budget is less than 1/50th of what it was when I was a kid. Thanks Republicans. Privatizing and deregulating stuff works so great.

It is not possible for anyone who suggests denying treatment to people at random in hopes that the slippage rate is high to not know what they're doing is wrong.
No, there’s corporate propaganda out there that seeks to change public perspective from “people that consciously commit malicious actions for profit” to “people that are just trying to make money for the business, but are ignorant of the consequences of their actions.” After all, its a far worse public image to be seen as evil for the sake of personal gain than to “be willing to change if only they knew better.”

It would definitely raise awareness
I’d love to see them address the failure that is the Baltimore City public school system without immediately mentioning “racism.”
Baltimore is a dump because the people there have the expectation that “someone else” should educate their kids, provide free food and welfare checks, give them some sort of “reparations” because someone else was enslaved, and pretty much tackle all of the responsibilities in their lives so that they’re not responsible for anything.

Given that Eggman has a vast knowledge of robotics and seemingly infinite resources to make them, he could probably just solve most problems with cybernetics.

It's really, really hard to write a villain that's actually worse than most modern governments. Whenever some mad scientist type is screaming about taking over the world, I'm always like "Alright, let's hear him out."
In jojo, the villain is literally POTUS but atleast his motivation and goals are sound
Honestly I'll take any cartoon mad scientist villain as our leader over modern politicians any day. At least their evil rule would be fun
Funnily enough, as far as I remember, Eggman doesn't really wanna destroy the world or be evil for the sake of it. He's just a megalomaniac who wants to take it over. It's possible he would actually do a better job than many institutions claiming to mean good :')

@@Nanakokuroi2 They don't, though. It's just as shit, but in different ways.
@@clairetellkamp6253 Okay, what you're saying doesn't mean anything though. HOW is it different?

If Shadow didn’t correct Eggman, he would have unintentionally made insulin cheaper
He couldn't make it worse.

As an American, I can confirm this is the lore behind why healthcare isn’t free here. 😔✊🇺🇸
Meanwhile in Canada....

Healthcare isn't free anywhere.
Its 'free' in the UK. And its absolute garbage.

Can’t wait for Eggman to finally do something about the educational system!
“No egg left behind”
Eggman giving eggs to children for lunch is still much better than charging them for their lunch.
Oh god.

Shadow : You know you are being hopelessly optimistic there, right?
Eggman: FINE, I’ll pick a system so esoteric there’s no way it hasn’t been corrupted by US Bureaucrats!
Shadow: Which is?
Eggman:………The US Wildlife Commission?
Shadow: I….think you might be good there
@rynemcgriffin1752 Unfortunately, from what I'm aware, there's actually some corruption in the wildlife commission in relation to wildlife trafficking and poaching.

I had a friend who got straight Fs all the way through high school, he graduated with the rest of us because his grandparents "donated." Has always blown my mind that the school district just needed their palms greased and they handed out a high school diploma like that. If that isnt corruption, I dont know what is.
That feels like the most minor of offenses of all time tbh. So the guy who struggles with school gets a better chance at getting a job, good for him, doesn't affect you at all. How about the ever reduced funding for teachers, the lack of school supplies and training, the unrestrained discrimination?
@@dis8791
School is built on the purpose of education. Allowing a dumbass to graduate is completely counter-productive to its existence.
@@dis8791the issue is A, he didn’t earn it like everyone else it undermines people, B he is now unsuitable to practically every job relying on them grades (imagine you are being treated by a doctor that has no knowledge of what a cell even is), C any further education etc he takes will build off a weak base (ever tried calculus whilst not being able to do simple algebra? It’s his issue this time tho)
Meanwhile, recently, a high school cared more about keeping Colleen Ballinger, a UA-camr accused of saying and doing inappropriate acts with minors, happy than the safety of their students.
“BEING AN EVIL DICTATOR DOESN’T STOP ME FROM BEING A FEMINIST, SHADOW!” Is the rawest line I have ever heard from any feminist ever
It's not just there for the sake of jokes though. In the Sonic Heroes game booklet, Eggman is described as being a feminist. Not kidding.
Wait until he hears about sexism towards women in the medical industry
@@LockeLynx I don’t remember that LMFAO THATS SO PERFECT
I think that is a perfect incapsulation of general democratic policy, identity politics, but they'll back some regressive policies in a heartbeat to protect capital. You can invite all minorities and disenfranchised groups to the table as long as they agree to protect capital.
Makes sense as most feminists are evil dictators with delusions of grandeur
XD
The worst part is that the people in charge of and enabling this system almost definitely consider themselves good, hardworking people just doing what’s best for the business.
It is not possible for anyone who suggests denying treatment to people at random in hopes that the slippage rate is high to not know what they're doing is wrong.
Randism in a nut shell
No, there’s corporate propaganda out there that seeks to change public perspective from “people that consciously commit malicious actions for profit” to “people that are just trying to make money for the business, but are ignorant of the consequences of their actions.” After all, its a far worse public image to be seen as evil for the sake of personal gain than to “be willing to change if only they knew better.”
@@blueblaze5160 wdym they just need a disney song to become good people
Denial is the first stage of grief. Tbh i see it as making paper. That dont make them good people of course but capitalism isnt about making money the right way. Its about making money in the least legal way as possible.

do one for the US education system. one of the points could be that state lotteries help fund schools, so they don't teach statistics.
What? Is this true???
- An australian
@fluffiest_rock well.. they technically do teach stats, but it requires 3 prereq classes to get into. in highschool. also yeah it's true. and most schools base their funding on how good grades are. there's like, a whole Simpsons episode on it
That's messed up for a different reason. Say I convinced a friend to give me a dollar towards owning a home, but then I spend a different dollar I used to save for the home on a gun. The friend would be pissed!
That's how money "goes towards education" here
I am just happy that I do not live in USA
They always laugh
And I am just like
Dude, I don't need a gun, I want a peaceful life and start a family without worrying if my kids will encounter a school shooting or if I will be able to financially cover a life saving operation of my wife
I don't need to worry about that because I live in Europe, even if it is not top tier Germany or Nordic countries I am still living pretty good and I don't need more

As someone with Type 1 Diabetes, this video hit me at a very relatable level. Whoever decided to make a life saving drug cost $200+ even though it only takes less than $10 on average to produce, was probably an enjoyer of the funny smelling grass.
That would imply that they ever touched any kind of grass
I'm sure you know, but it definitely wasn't the guy that invented it! He didn't patent it, and asked "Could you patent the sun?" when he was asked about patenting it.
It's just two companies that have a duopoly colluding to increase prices lmao
I'd certainly hope it's less than 10$ to produce a vial, as the going price for a 5 mL vial of Insulin Aspart is ~10$ before subsidies in Denmark.
