Thanks to my day job at Kelley Blue Book, I drive and review lots of cars. This 2020 Nissan Rogue Sport is one of them. The Rogue Sport is a subcompact SUV with plenty of cargo space and a gentle dash of style. In this review, me, my wife, and our daughter examine the 2020 Rogue Sport’s positives and negatives from a family perspective.

I've had the UK built version, the Qashqai, for over 5 years, 1.6ltr diesel with 6 speed manual box. Performs reasonably, comfortable and nicely put together. Only problems have been electrical niggles and needed a replacement aircon condenser this year which cost lots, not good enough on a 20k miles car. Not driven the US version, nearly did at Alamo in Phoenix, but was offered a Dodge Charger instead, so no contest.
Micah is correct, bit of a vanilla car.

I also enjoy activating seat heaters on unsuspecting passengers. The first time I did this was to a friend who'd just had her first child. She panicked 'cause she thought she 'wet' the seat... once I explained that seat heaters were a thing, she turned to her husband and demanded their next car have this feature.
P.S. I actually forgot my car had seat heaters (shameful, I know), and 'rediscovered' them when the mechanic left them on after an oil change... so I too have experienced the joys of surprise butt warmers.

I had a rental Qashqai (what the Rogue is called everywhere else) in Italy, put a bunch of kilometers on it, and we liked it. It was comfortable, fun and easy to park. I’m sure the turbo-diesel and six-speed manual had a lot to do with how I liked it, not to mention the 40-plus US mpg I got while doing my best to drive like a Continental... but, alas, we don’t get diesels in the states.

There was a time when things like automatic transmissions and turbos were considered unreliable, nowadays the technology has been massaged, refined, and improved to the point where most folks no longer have any reservations about buying a turbocharged vehicle, never mind one with an automatic transmission.. They will last if maintained. Go look at Occckid123 300,000k + miles on his original Cvt. Also anything 2013 & 2014 had faulty programming. Hey a review of a car that I own!
I have the trim level below this (the SV trim). This thing rear passenger space is small imo, my Sentra felt like it had more space. I also keep the steering setting in sport because normal felt way to soft for me. Also I do really like the steering wheel (they should put that in the 370Z). This is a great car for just a basic means of transportation and kind of comfortable. I love my G8 GXP but manual transmissions and stop and go traffic are annoying. Even though I don't like CVTs like you said drive something long enough you kind of forget about it. All in all, it's not bad but not exceptional. Also I got mine super cheap because it was a 2019 model.

I do disagree... CVT transmissions can be incredible and spunky. Just because you can't feel it slammin through limiting sets of ratio'd gears doesn't mean it's not fun as hell to drive. I loved the attitude of my juke. That thing ripped through the canyon with very quick and nimble response and extremely consistent engine breaking is always cool too. Always being in the right gear with gobs of torque on demand is a brilliant thing. If F1 were allowed to CVT their drivetrains, they would (research it.) I will not vouch for the nissan CVT reliability, it's a scary gamble buying a nissan with a CVT, they have the absolute WORST backing of their products of all car companies and it needs to change.

Shameful! Did you turn on the ProPilot and set the cruise control to test this feature before claiming it's not working? Let me know if I were wrong.

    • @MicahMuzio
      @MicahMuzio  3 роки тому

When active, ProPilot Assist works to keep the Rogue Sport in the center of its lane by controlling the steering system. ProPilot Assist is made for use on freeways and functions as a comfort feature to assist the driver. That system functions separately from the Nissan's Intelligent Lane Intervention, which alerts the driver if they've departed their lane and can apply the brakes to certain wheels to help pull the vehicle back into its lane.
It's confusing because both systems help keep the vehicle in its lane but they use completely different approaches to achieve that goal (active steering versus differential braking). As a driver if you've used ProPilot Assist on the freeway and expect similar assistance in other situations, Intelligent Lane Intervention is going to disappoint. In my experience Intelligent Lane Intervention isn't up to the task of keeping a vehicle in its lane...as demonstrated in the video.

34k? I think i would go with a Tucson instead, more power, space and pano roof. Also, whyyy don't they tint the rear windows on these even on the refresh? Evie's face as you floored it lmao.

That's the challenge with smaller SUVs. Once you add options they start to overlap with lower-trim versions of larger, nicer SUVs.

@@MicahMuzio the SV with upgrade package would be the one I'd get, still has things like heated seats/steering wheel, foglights, etc. Plus the smaller wheels should translate into a bit better ride and less expensive tire replacement. I hope the new version has the Rogue's new engine, should be rated around 35 MPG with it. Good looking vehicle now, new version is even sharper looking, imo.

For over $26k.... there is NO reason not to have less than 200hp, in this size of vehicle. With the cvt it's an automatic no, for me. CVT's are annoying.

Nissan should include a much watch with purchase how to drive a CVT equipped vehicle. I read all of the complaints on every Nissan review and they are always the same. You do not drive a CVT vehicle the same as you do a regular transmission vehicle, and that is the reason for all of these complaints. Makes you want to scream at people. Dam it educate yourselves before you complain.

CVT is garbage. Micah's attention span is not long, but he's funny!

Hey Micah, your family review series is great and very different than what other car reviewers on UA-cam are doing, but here’s my 2 cents... our attention spans have gotten so bad with smart phones and it’s really hard to watch a whole 18 minute long video of a car as boring as the rogue.. I mean I watched the video because I like y’all not because I need to know anything about this car... if you want more viewers make your reviews shorter... this video would’ve been perfect if it ended after your wife drove it and gave her opinion about the driving experience... stay safe 😍

Funny you mention it. I like the unscripted approach we've taken with our Family Reviews but that also makes our videos long. I'm working out how to make them shorter without sacrificing spontaneity. Thanks for weighing in!

The length is perfect. Good to see women review and if the car is child friendly. Keep informal format.

Micah. Your reviews are just fine! Don't worry about content length. I watch other "car reviews" on here that I feel like I gained 2 or 3 more gray hairs, by the time it's over. Keep up the great work. Keep being yourself.

This is the only review I've seen of yours. I own this car in the SL and I don't agree with your assessment of its mediocrity. My husband is a car guy, has owned BMW, Mercedes, etc. and he LOVES this car and prefers it to his S Class Mercedes, which he sold several months ago. But he just loves this car. I can spend an hour on the reasons why. So I think you are somewhat of a car snob, and I don't like how you condescend your wife in what comes off as a male/female dis on her sophistication in liking the car's pickup more than you do. Dude, I'm 62 and your attitude is even way out of date for someone MY age much less yours.

Another garbage product brought to you by Nissan. Only to be peddled for 4,000$ some years later after panels have fallen off and the CVT fails.
