Killer lesson!!
Thanks Tomlin!
Here comes another legend Harmonica Player 😂 Telling another legend that this is a killer lesson
Thanks for all the feedback guys. Part 2 (Dorian Mode) coming next Monday!
This is the most crucial lesson I've ever seen on youtube. You are different at all times. Thanks a lot Will....
2/1. OMG! THIS IS BEAUTIFUL, WILL!
This really helped me hit the -3// bend! Thank you
4:28 Unchained Melody Bro, breaks my 💔
I'm looking forward to the Dorian mode next week. After four years of daily practice, I finally learned how to use the scales in backing tracks. It's given me new enthusiasm for practice. New insights come along every three or four months. This is one of them. ....don't know what took me so long.
The dorian video came out yesterday!
You are a natural with that genre of music you had in the background lol. Don't get soft on us haha. Rock on !!😁
Lol!
Bravo, bravo, I play too and I love your song, well done.
I've tried this scale over a c major jazz 2 5 1 backing track also. Sounds nice n cheesy. I like. 👍🏻
Scale practice over backing track...great tip! Been playing 7 or 8 months and these little tips really help me progress quicker
Thank you Sir! Not only is your playing superb, but your lessons & teaching as well. You described the start of my harp playing very well...... I jump'd right into the blues & missed out on these types of basic exercises that actually help keep our blues playing sharp! 40+ yrs ago, before the advent of UA-cam, there wasn't that much access to harmonica lessons (except for Mel Bay!), so the encouragement to practice scales (etc.) wasn't as prevalent. Scale exercises not only teach the scale patterns, but help in breathing technique as well. Thanks for the lessons, encouragement, & most of all, your time. We are ALL extremely grateful of you and the others that provide these video lessons.
This is such a great lesson...it is simple yet so powerful in delivering knowledge that matters and that one can enjoy without having a lot of expertise in harp playing
Awesome! Thanks Will!
Beautiful!!
Thank you so much, Will !!!!!!
Thanks, Will! Helpful, as usual!
That's a beautiful melody!
Thanks Will. Looking forward to the upcoming parts.
Very eseful lesson. Thank you
Thank you ! Following the series
Thanks, that was very helpful.
Simple but badass!
Thank you so much, this lesson is perfect
Interesting lesson, cheers Will
You have an aggressive style, but it's nice to see you soften up, it's called passion and that's a skill set.... Love it
THIS is a great lesson. Thanks Will!
A great back to the roots lesson, thanks will.
Wow! Very helpful Will, Thanks 👏👏👏✅
Underrated scale. Thx man!
Thanks so much for this lesson!
Good one cheers Will.
Many thanks bud, this has helped me a lot
Dzięki Will za te 4 części wykładu (Part 1,2,3,4 ), tego nam trzeba było
This is by far the best lesson I've seen,, with all due respect to Liam and Tomlin.
Glad to hear it, thanks!
Brilliant Will... I’m reaching for my harp already... can’t wait to give it a go!!!
Will Wilde you're a f**king rock star! Great tutorial!
Good stuff Will. You are a great teacher. Keep going please
Great lesson! Also very useful for playing by ear in my opinion ...
Wow Will thank you so very very much
You're welcome, thanks Paul
Hi Bro, best tutorial I can find on basic scale all three octave awesome work. I am a finger style guitarist, I can play little bit of harmonica but the way you explained that's exactly how I wanted, all you need a 3 octave to play any melody if written in diatonic scale.
God bless I am buying a diatonic harmonica tomorrow.
Great ✨Thank you
Thank you
Will I love your tutorials! Very helpful!! Thanks!!
Glad you like them, you're welcome!
Thank you for posting this ...I will begin to learn my first scale from this lesson 👍
Thanks a lot
Thanks, excellent lesson I am a beginner and this lesson was very constructive! thank you so much!!!
Thank you sir for all the knowledge that you share. This is terrific!
Glad it was helpful!
Wow, that's fun :) I've never had any experience with a theoretical side of music and playing these scales on a harmonica seems like an easy way to get into it. Thanks mate!
Excellent lesson Will. I just passed it on to a brand new student, Obi. No better way to get started on a C harp!
Interesting shop
Ty
Beautiful. I am excited and thankful for this great lesson. Greetings from northern Germany.

Cant belive i missed this one will i think im grasping it from listening to you that is so sweet got go back a few times though thanks
Definitely worth learning if you haven't done it before, the fun starts when you begin exploring the modes, so check out the whole series!
@@willharmonicawilde thanks mate
This has been a great revision of first pos, you are right we all jump straight into 2nd. I had to play key A on A harp last week , hadn't practiced in years. I'm loving the theory, it reinforces what I've learnt from Tomlin and David Barret's lessons. Im also enjoying your 3rd pos video atm. cheers mate. BTW we'd love to have you play down in Perth Australia one day :)
Thanks Marg!
Very inspiring, thanks a lot! Lol so weird hearing this soft pop music from you
Hahaha thanks, yeah a bit different from my usual style!
Hey, Will. That was cool video mate. Much more professional looking too
Thanks! Glad you noticed... I've been putting a bit more effort in to the production quality of the videos- I used to just switch my phone on and start talking hahaha
@@willharmonicawilde It's the content more than anything that people want at the end of the day. Good light and sound quality do make a difference to the overall video though! Hope you carry it on the studio
Great format and clear tutorial 😎
Thanks! Part 2 (Dorian mode) coming next week
Great lesson that's exactly what I needed to understand 1st position...is it work for all the harmonica keys? for example backing track in D is it the same pattern in harmonica D?
Hi. Will you have time to do two lessons in the same way Part.5 Blues on the whole harmonica (3 octaves) and Part.6 Rock and roll on the entire harmonica (3 octaves). It would be a set of lessons. There are two movies on the net but it would be good if they were in the same convention
👍
This is an incredibly helpful video for me. Thank you! Will, where can I go to find backing tracks for me to download and practice with? Do you put them on a MP3 player? You’re an awesome player and teacher and I appreciate you taking the time to help new harp players like me.
Thanks! There's is a link to the backing track in the description beneath the video. There are loads on UA-cam.
Cheesy is right lol. But hey you still looked cool! That's what counts brother!
what is the backing track called? good lesson....
Great lesson! it is exactly what I need to understand 1st position...is it work for the other keys as well? for example backing track in D is it the same pattern for harmonica D? thanks!
Glad it helped! Yes that's right, doing the same thing on a D harp would give you D major. I just released a new free three week course on this subject (improvising in 1st position, with the C major scale) you may want to check it out: www.willwildeharmonicamasterclass.com
@@willharmonicawilde already enrolled! thanks!
What the best positions to use the pentatonic scale ?
2nd Position is most common for major pentatonic. 1st and 12th work well too
Do you play the beginning note twice if you play all octaves at once? Like if separated the first octave ends in 4b than second octave starts in 4b....do you just play that note once if combined?
Just once
Excellent, thank you. Don’t you need to be aware of chord changes on the music too? ( i iv v) i was believing i’d have to move to an appropriate note, but this sounded instinctive.
Not necessarily, you can just use your ears to "feel your way around" the scale over the changes as I am doing here.
Admittedly I've never done anything with the major scale in the 2 years I've been learning. So how do I pay along with a backing track? In the sense of with blues, I use the 12 bar blues scale, what's the major scale equivalent? Cheers
There is no such thing as a '12 bar blues scale'. A twelve bar blues is a 12 bar chord progression made up of the 1,4 and 5 chords. You can solo over it using the blues scale/minor pentatonic or major pentatonic scales. You can use this C major scale to play over any song/backing track in C major
Aye, I know. Looking back it wasn't worded very well at all, lol. I meant
is the 12 bar blues progression the same for the major scale notes as it is for the blues scale? So you can play a minor scale over a major backing track but not a major scale over a minor /blues backing track? Or is the relationship of blues /major chord progression where the modes come into it!?
A bit confused.
@@leswhitham you wouldn't use this major scale for blues. Major pentatonic, yes, but not the full major scale.
@@willharmonicawilde, so what notes of the major scale should I target at what chords or does it not matter so much? Cheers
@@leswhitham Dont worry about that. Just use your ears
Honestly, this is a litmus test for musical potential. It’s sad to say but if you can’t improvise over the provided backing track, you’re going to have a hard time. To be frank, it should be effortless, you’re already playing in key so the only thing you need is to play the notes in a way that lends itself to the rhythm of the track, that’s what people mean when they talk about being “in the groove.” The good news is that this should be very easy for the vast majority of people.
Absolutely, the job of a music teacher is to give you the tools to get the music inside your head OUT. If you don't have any music/ideas in your head and don't have anything to 'say' then you won't get very far!
10B/ does not come out, f-k
