Today I found out a cool way to make a comic character that’s very exaggerated! You sketch out the general shape of the face, then one by one close your eyes and draw a part of the face, then open your eyes, rinse and repeat with other parts of the face. This helps me get a characters general idea and personality figured out, and it’s very fun!

      Ok 1.) FBI!?
2.) stop spending time on thumbnails. Thumbnails =\= sketches, they should be quick and rough just to get compositional aspects down, experiment, and they're generally small. Whereas a sketch can be your actual piece's size and should be about getting the idea you've figured out in your thumbnail a lot more refined.
Generally you want idea -> thumbnails -> sketch -> finished piece, but your flow may vary.
Some people do sketch -> idea -> thumbnail -> sketch -> finish (which is what happened here) which is totally fine. Hell you might even do idea -> sketch -> finish, hate it, thumbnail -> sketch -> idea -> thumbnail -> sketch -> finish 😉
It's all about the process, but utilize thumbnails more efficiently and stop wasting time on them. You'll be a better artist for it!

Art teacher here, love the promoting of thumbnail sketches before committing to the drawing :-) it saves a lot of time and money to think on paper in the form of drawing or painting :-) one way that I loosened up was by only using a fudé brush and india ink. I love doing thumbnail versions of my larger idea!
I’m frequently indecisive when it comes to composition and colour choice, so doing little thumbnails in which I can work out the different ideas I have are super helpful!
Also great because you can always reference back to them so you never forget an idea you’d had, and if you decide you want to combine a few ideas you had earlier or come up with a new idea mid way through your project you can whip up a new one, rather than getting it fully done and then being disappointed because the other thing you thought up might have worked better.
Thumbnails are also a really good way of getting some ideas out there without needing to commit or invest too much care in them, like with sketching. 😊

The fascinating part about practicing negative space is that when you doodle and sketch even more thumbnails for practice reference you dont realize you've made so many doodles already and you can use all the sketches you practiced for future reference

I liked seeing a video focused on sketching and the conceptual work that goes into a work

I also love negative space! I like to use thumbnails when an art isn’t working out or I don’t think it will work out and it helps me a lot! I like to copy them off into my full piece and then erase it afterwards, then I add some details and my art looks awesome.

Wow! My art teacher despises negative space. Like, we're just not allowed to have it. It's really cool that you're working with it!

Thanks man I was having trouble with these. especially at school. When I realize the problem I’m too late and don’t have enough time to change it. 🤩

THANK YOU. I did this a lot with designing, I just didn't think to do it for actual pieces.
