Orsted Corporation will be handing out Orsted signed figurines to all fans, just talk to Faria to sign the contract of absolute loyalty to our corporation for the next 80 years. (**Spoiler Alert** **Don't Google Osterd Corporation**)
44:55 The reason Rudy answered Orsted’s question about Man God(the one that made Orsted attack them) is because Rudy was excited to finally talk to someone about Man God without sounding like he was crazy.
Its also show his straight up stupidity. Who tf casually exposing their deepest secret to absolute stranger who suspiciously know about it somehow, let alone if that stranger terrifying enough to make your allies scared af & make an ox kill itself right there
@@captainamerica799 Except it’s not his “deepest secret”. It’s not even a secret. He just hasn’t mentioned it because he doesn’t know how to bring it up without sounding crazy. Merely not mentioning something doesn’t make it a secret. Otherwise, the fact that he has a childhood friend who’s a female elf would be a secret since he’s never mentioned Sylphie to Eris and Ruijerd. Something is only a secret if you don’t want people to know about it. He has no such desire. Quite the opposite. He *wants* to talk to someone about it. Like I said, he just doesn’t know how to bring it up without sounding crazy. If someone else knows about it, that’s confirmation that he’s *not* crazy. So no, it wasn’t really stupidity, it was a lapse in judgement. Those two things are not quite the same.
Here is his inner monologue when Orsted asked him about the Man-God: ""All right then, I'm sorry to have stopped -----" It was exactly then, right as I was bowing my head in apology, that he said it. "You. Are you perhaps familiar with the name 'Man-God'?" Finally, he'd said a word that I could understand. Part of the problem was that I'd let my guard down, thinking that our conversation was already over. Another part was that I'd purposefully avoided saying anything about the Man-God to anyone, and now suddenly someone had spoken the god's name, particularly a person who so thoroughly confused me. So, naturally, thinking that this was knowledge we both shared that would continue the conversation, I reacted to it without thinking. I replied ever so casually, "I do, He's appeared in my dream ----" Suddenly, my vision changed." Btw, when Rudi channeled his last fireball: "I ignored the window and focused on launching the fiercest fire attack against him that I could manage. What I pictured in my mind was an enormous flame. A mushroom cloud. A nuclear explosion. I channeled my magic as simply and straightforwardly as possible, as if powering up for a punch. I didn't even zhink about the fact that Eris and Ruijerd might be caught up in it. I'd already lost the ability to think."
This will always be one of the best episode of anime for me. The intro, the build-up, the animation, the dialogue, the voice actors performance, the emotions; just amazing work from everyone that made that happen
Yep, everything was perfect. The sound design was amazing too. It's the sound design that really made audience feel the very heavy tension in the air when Orsted was walking past Dead End. I could feel the tension was so thick that it can also be cut with a knife.
I think rudy was curious *because* orsted revealed he knows a ridiculous amount of information Also, he showed that 1. Hes capable of striking up conversations, 2. Is travelling with a slight of frame woman so he doesnt just kill everyone
And he just had a fight with his father for not asking about mana disaster more and helping others too , that's why he thought of asking the guy who seemed like knew some info about the ongoing events in the world about the mana disaster and such
Eris' voice actress really gave her all in this episode. Her voice acting made me cry too. Also that magic battle between Rudeus and Orsted was something of the level of Dumbledore vs Voldemort. It's one of the best magic vs magic scenes I've seen on screen. Not just because of how powerful the spells are, but how practical they were.
Well said!!! The way it happened in the book, and how it was transformed for the small screen, was magnificent. I LOVE the practicality of Rudeus, filling his lungs with an air spell, lifting himself with earth, blasting himself away from Orsted, and then....those INSANELY refined, OP spells...I get chills just remembering those.
Yes, all the way starting from Rudeus seeing himself getting killed before it happened and panicking, Orstred knowing casters need to talk so he crushes his lungs first, Rudeus using magic to punp air on his own lungs and stabilizing himself, it's soooooo damn good!
I love how the episode allows us, the viewers, to kinda feel Orsted's curses in real life. Just like how people in that world will fear him even tho they don't know who he is, thanks to how the episode started, us viewers were scare/worry when Orsted appeared even tho we have no idea who he is. 1000 IQ decision from the studio right there 👏👏 58:29 Also, good question, what would the world be like if Rudy was never there? ... well, if we take a look at the ending, we can see Eris and Ruijerd on their journey, but Rudy is replaced with a blue sky and some clouds ... almost like its trying to show us how it's like if Rudy was "out of the picture" (literally)
My exact thoughts. It's why the opening sequence is so genius; it puts us in Eris's and Ruijerd's shoes when otherwise we would agree with Rudeus instead.
I appreciate you voicing this perspective. I've been curious how anime-only's feel about ep. 21's opening, as I came into this episode having experienced TP2 in the manga first, and really dislike the anime's choice to start in media res. I stand by that I think the other iterations do a better job of making TP2 just as visceral of an experience as TP1 was, but it's certainly nice to hear that anime-only fans still have a good experience.
@@Alellion I actuallly read the manga too, but I did finish ss1 in the anime first before I decided to read it in the manga (basically, I did watch this ep when I was still an anime-only fan). Personally I prefer the anime, and most people in the fandom seems to agree that the manga isn't a very great adaption of the LN, the fight between them and Orsted was quite underwhelming in the manga. But hey, good to know that someone actually enjoys the manga, I don't really mind what medium you perfer as long as we are enjoying the same show.
@@sora2541 Personally I would say the LN is by far my favorite, though I enjoy both the manga and anime adaptations. I knew manga was pretty different from LN/show when I started it, so I think going in with that expectation helped the enjoyment factor. I do think the manga is the weakest of the three, but each has their own strong suit. "... quite underwhelming in the manga." - I'd argue this is because you saw the spectacle of the anime first. If character/lore depth and development is LN strength, brevity and humor is the manga's strength, I'd qualify action and spectacle to be anime's strength. It's why even after seeing all this twice before, I'm still eager for the anime's continuation!
bones sinkin like stones all that we fought fooor homes places we've grown all of us are done fooor and we live in a beautiful woorld ye we do ye we doo
1:03:24 Actually no. Rudy had no clue that Disturb Magic existed. Otherwise he would’ve tried to learn it. But he didn’t try to learn it until after he saw Orsted use it because that’s when he found out about it.
See, that's the point of the "intro" part of this episode. So that YOU AS A VIEWER will also be influenced by Orsted's curse. "suspicious"? "danger"? No. That's only because you already know something bad will happen. There's nothing indicating that in-story that would suggest danger to Rudeus, except his friends freaking out over - objectively - nothing. Because they were freaking out before even seeing anyone. Logically, Rudeus did nothing wrong. Conversation was already initiated without him. Orsted spoke to them normally, and PROVED himself to be reasonable. After that, there is no reason to not ask questions if you have any, as long as you're not being offensive or bothersome. So yeah, you were prejudiced against Orsted because of the intro. Just as intended. ;)
I think it is a bit unfair to say that Rudeus was really stupid talking with Orsted. Eris and Ruijerd have a natural fear of Orsted, we the viewers got the sequence in the beginning of the episode and the one in the first part where Orsted scares a dragon so we are also afraid of him. Rudeus has nothing of that, to him he is a scary looking guy but nothing else that seems to know something about the world and can give him information. I also think Rudeus at this point is 100% confident that even if that man attacks them Ruijerd will win because he is ridiculously strong
He was literally told several times to just shut up, and their ox literally jumped off the cliff, I think that is reason enough to at the very least not be so careless with how he spoke
He was asked to shut the F up lol, at least listen to what people of this world know and do like them. That was beyond stupid, but necessarily for the story i guess
@@dinispereira_ It doesn't matter, at least listen to the person who has saved your life many times and question things after. Then again as I said it was for story's purposes, Rudy had to be dumb for the story to make progress
@@dohalimilqarasdeldemenanci8483 It wasn't dumb. If you think it was a good decision for Rudy to reach out to Ruijerd and refuse to fear him when everyone else told him that's what he should do then it's hypocritical to say that he should've treated Orsted differently. The only argument you have is that the way the show was shot conveyed to the audience that Orsted was going to be dangerous, but that's a meta-argument.
Here's a fun detail that they skipped from the anime. That big purple fireball Rudy made, was described in the LN as him imagining a nuclear explosion from his world. Cause he was so close to death he didn't even consider the heat output and it was melting the ice all around him
In the novel Orsted was actually pretty friendly towards Ruijerd, thats why Rudeus felt confident on talking to him, Orsted was just some weird guy until they fought
Laplace had an immense amount of Mana. No one has ever seen anyone with a bigger mana pool then Laplace. No one other the Rudeus. Rudeus is said to have a mana pool as big as Laplace. Anime doesn't really go into it but Kishirika mentions that same thing that Orsted did when they meet in Zant Port. The anime cut it out though. She says that she hasn't seen anyone with such a huge Mana pool since Laplace. Its also worthy of mentioning that the more you use your magic the more your reservoir of mana grows. Since Rudy learned that at 2 years old he made sure to exhaust all his mana everyday so it would increase his mana pool. Doing that since the age of 2 for years gave him this immense amount of mana. Anime also cut this explanation out. If it ever mentioned it, it was very brief.
@@MRST0R All that is in my comment is skipped content form the Light Novel. Most of it was mentioned in volume 1 or volume 4, which the anime already covered. So its not a spoiler, simply information that the anime decided to omit/sacrifice due to limited amount of episodes. If you read the Light Novel you know (im assuming you haven't). The events in which those exposition pieces were suppose to take place already passed in the story so its legit cut content of the adaptation.
Wyrm is a subspecies of dragons. Its a very common fantastical creature and its used in many fantasy-esque stories. Its like goblins and slimes. Kinda of a, universally known creature. Some lores might assign more power and important to them as just being a subspecies. But either way, you are bound to see wyrms if you play/read more RPGs/fantasy novels. In the Light Novel chapters that covered this episode, when Eris sees the "Red Dragon" outside her window, in the novel she actually says, "Red Wyrm". Thats the actual correct term. They are currently in a place called "The Red Wyrm's Lower Jaw", which is a mountain chain that looks like a jaw when viewd from above. And they are going through the Lower Jaw to enter the Asura Kingdom. The top of the mountain chain is where the few remaining Red Wyrms make their nests.
Well to my knowledge in much fantasy literature wyrm is simply equated to a dragon and not even a subspecies(maybe I understand the implication of subspecies wrong here?), and seemingly in germanic language it's the first word for dragon. So it could just straight up be a implying dragons, especially with the spell made from Orsted it would be more logical in my mind just to be the realm of dragons that he uses to resist Ruijerds spell, also looks a bit like a mirror which is a common rp trope for resistance against magic or spells. This is simply my speculations and by no means has to hold any ground within Mushoku Tensei. Anyways love this show so much!
@@david4233 Well, the intricacies of the name are gonna vary from lore. Some authors and stories base their lore on different mythologies or simply take shit from their minds. In most of my experiences Wyrms and Dragons were not really the same thing. Dragon being the species and Wyrm being a specific race of Dragon. Like Wyverns. I have consumed a lot of fantasy so i dont know which is which, but from what i remember of The Witcher 3, for example, the "Draconians" refer to all Dragon-like species of monter, which include Wyverns, for example. In other media Wyrms... So as Mushoku Tensei says Wyrm, specifically, and not Dragon, im assuming there are other kinds of dragons that are not Wyrms here. Though i dont recall Dragons being all that present in the story other then at this points and in the Northen Countries later on
That intro discussion was way too innocent for what was about to come 💀 And oh boy, we got an Attack on Titan episode discussion length on this one, that's how you know the show is on another level
bro, I see the lenght of the video dedicated to the discussion: "welp, time to boot up my favourite RPG and farm some mobs while this podcast plays in the back."
A whole hour 26 minutes discussion video, lol. A fitting video for my all-time favorite piece of fiction discussed by my current favorite anime reactor
So... Being really used to anime made me understand some Japanese words after seeing them often. And when I watched this episode I instantly latched on to the name "Nanahoshi", because it's just actual japanese. From what I understand, "Nana" means seven and "hoshi" means star. So her not showing any fear towards Orsted for me sounded basically like confirmation that she must be japanese like Rudy is.
It's fascinating what they were able to accomplish with the intro. After the initial moments, you, the viewer, can't think of anything else, and you are on edge for the entire interaction, it's like the curse ortsed has is also affecting us and clouds our judgment. Hanna reaction is a perfect example of that. Like many others, she throws reason out of the window and just wants Rudy to shut up exactly like eris and Rugerd in the scene
What interests me so much about Nanahoshi is that it's a very Japanese name. It translates to something like Seven Stars. It seems like they are also brought from Earth, although keeping a Japanese name. I hope we don't have to wait too long to see more of her and Orsted in the story.
Did the localization not bother translating credits in the ED? This wasn't the first time Nanahoshi's name came up in the show. Spoiler spacing just in case: She's literally in the credits for episode 2. The sixth character in the ending credits after the Grayrat family and Roxy.
@@TheMrGiannisgr trying to word it correctly is difficult. I know that Nanahoshi isn't a Japanese name, but I'm trying to say that her name is made up of Japanese words as opposed to the more European-inspired names in the story.
If I recall correctly, the ox jumping off the cliff is an anime original (it either didn't happen at all or not at that point, can't recall properly, but they were riding a carriage at first, not walking). The studio probably added it to show how scary Orsted is to creatures of that world. I like how this duo found the logical inconsistencies from this addition.
Types of dragons: Wyrm (serpent), Wyvern (4 limbs: wings that double as arms and legs), Dragon (6 limbs: 4 legs and 2 wings), Lindworm (2 limbs, serpent body with 2 arms), Drake (4 limbs: 4 legs). There is another but i dont remember the name of the it but its basically serpent body but with wings (like the Aztec god Quetzalcoatl)
15:19 The sound our dude makes right at this moment... That is the right expression towards Mushoku Tensei's greatness. 29:30 Anna hits is kinda here. The scene shows that one soes not have to "see" Orsted to be overcome with terror and hate.
A good parallel to rudy being happy about being able to talk about man god would be subaru from re:rezero being able to talk about his return by death ability. Its like: oh, nice! someone who gets it! and then gets filled up with excitement.
great discussion 😉, about the incantationless healing, I think when rudy was learning magic, he said that healing is different from other types of magic. Basically, he imagines magic going through his body and exploding or something. But with healing he doesnt know if it enhances the body healing, or revert time on the wound, or what is or should be happening to the mana to heal. Thats why he has to say the words to heal 😀
Manga/light novel readers and not knowing what a fucking spoiler warning is. Every single one of you needs to get a dictionary and learn the definition of a spoiler lol.
People are really missing out when they make up their mind about this show without even watching it. The story, animation, music, characters, choreography, development, and just about everything else is amazing.
Ana, what you were describing when stories start in the middle is called starting "in media res". It is very intentional as you suspected. It's often employed in order to skip over needless exposition. But in this case, I believe it was in order to set the tone for the episode. There are some drawbacks to this. Like in a way it spoils some of the surprise when the battle begins. But the levels of foreboding and dread the viewer experiences throughout the episode are only achieved because it was done this way.
In the novel to put simply, rudeus talk to orsted because he gives the same vibres as hitogami(human God). And he confirm he knows hitogami because during their travel he tried to ask other people if the term Hitogami is family to them, so hearing from the mouth of someone in this world, this exact term, makes him feel realives because he can know something about hitogami that confirm whats his nature, good or bad.
Some LN reader explained in another comment section that Orsted was written as using the optimal action against every attack. And that is so badass to me. I need a NPC like that in my campaign
Perfect discussion, The only thing you guys got wrong was Rudeus reaction to Orsted when he was "checking his body." 7:07 Rudy's eye of foresight let him see the attack coming but no matter where he blocked he saw a counter. So Rudeus reaction was trying to figure out what he was going to prioritize since he knew he was going to be mortally wonder either way. With that being said, I love putting on the discussions as i work as like a mini podcast.
This is by far my favorite episode of the series and my favorite reaction of you guys, Thanks for discussing every single detail and asking yourselves so many questions!!!
subscribed! i love how analytical you both are and empathetic towards the characters and technical about the plot. Beat reactors imo, you both get my gears turning. Which is rare for people and anime to do.. you both are pros at this. looking forward to watching more of your videos. Adblock off!
I always thought that when Rudy said yes about Man-God, it was purely off reflex as it was the first time anyone else had ever mentioned the name. Like it just slipped out before he had time to process what he was saying.
In the manga and ln, the reason Rudy is so open to telling Orsted about man god is because he assumed that man-god must've spoken to Orsted as well and felt like he could finally get more information on the man-god.
Rudy talking to Orsted then and there also goes to show that despite his memories, he's actually a kid at that point in time. Sure, he had his reasons for asking him and he had his memories, but the lack of situational awareness shows that he's not just young physically, he's also young emotionally and acts impulsively from time to time. Amother example would be him cheerfully telling Paul his adventures.
The transition into the anime made me laugh so hard! "I feel like a fucking idiot" 😆This is the best episode so far in my opinion, and I loved watching it with you guys! Keep them coming!
When he teach incatationless magic to sylphy (he says something like remember the feeling of the spell and try to reproduce it without words) so basically to use it you need to understand the concept behind the spell so while its easy the concept of heating up a ball of fire or shooting rocks he dont understand how the heal works so he cant do it voiceless
On point where the discussion was about why Rudy would re-engage with Orsted when he mentions Man-God is covered in the light novel a lot better than the anime. For most of the conversation with Orsted, Rudy was very confused by the contradictory nature he was getting from him - the stuff he was talking about just made no sense to him. So, when Orsted finally drops the name Man-God, he was finally happy to hear a word he understood, and Rudy thought that the conversation was going to continue along those lines. Rudy totally let his guard down and reacted without thinking, and we saw the end result.
Haha Rudeus introduces himself to Zanoba, nobody cares, introduces himself to Gallus Cleaner, nobody cares, introduces himself to Kishirika and even a hostile environment in the guild's quarters and nobody cares, and so on with almost everybody in the whole series BUT introduces himself to an "unknown vagabond man" and everybody is OMG don't be silly Rudeus. hahaha come on... all for the 10 secs of the episode intro. That always makes me very entertaining to watch in reactions. I'm with Ben on that topic, thank you 😁😁
Sadly, anime changed some parts of the dialogue with Orsted, making it less logical, because anime skipped some details in previous episodes to save screentime. The details being Rudy asking everyone if they knew about Man-God so he can understand if Man-God can be trusted etc, but no one did. So when he met one of the greatest people in the world, who supposedly could be very knowledgable, he naturally asked Orsted "Have you heard of Man-God?"
Both of you said some really good points during the discussion about Rudy's "matte kudasai" to Orsted. I get Anna about feeling defeated when Rudy said that because that's also how I felt when I first watched this episode lol. But when I let the episode sink in, I think I understood why Rudy did it more. Like Ben said, Rudy would be approaching situations like these based on his past life experiences, and what was his biggest life experience - gaming. As a gamer, I could also see myself trying to question interesting-looking characters like Orsted for more information. But as Anna said, I think there's also a mix of conceitedness with Rudy because he knows that Dead End is hella strong. It's cut content from the light novel, but at this point of the story, they've met some S-class parties like Aqua Road and Rudy estimated that Dead End is stronger than them. So I don't think Rudy expected that anyone would easily just body them like this, so I think he was overconfident too. I also think it's not out of character for Rudy even though there are a lot of times that he'd be calculated, because it's in his nature to suck at reading the room. It happened many times in the show i.e. bath scene with Sylphie, bar scene during the reunion with Paul, etc. So if I put myself in Rudy's shoes at that time, I do see myself as also telling Orsted to "matte kudasai" XD
To come to Rudeus defence, and explain why he engaged with Orsted, I will quote some stuff from the Light Novel. Also some interesting lines that add more to the confrontation, that the Anime left out. *Showing that Rudeus was completely oblivious to this aura of dread Orsted was emitting* _"There was more to this strangeness. There was the man’s attitude…or rather, the difference between that and their reactions. He came across as friendly. His voice was flat, but-and I didn’t know where it stemmed from-there was a quality to it that made him sound happy, like he’d been reunited with old friends."_ *Rudeus couldn't make sense of most of the conversation with Orsted. So when Orsted finally said something he did understand, his guard was let down.* _"It was exactly then, right as I was bowing my head in apology, that he said it. “You. Are you perhaps familiar with the name ‘Man-God’?” Finally, he’d said a word that I could understand."_ _"Part of the problem was that I’d let my guard down, thinking that our conversation was already over. Another part was that I’d purposefully avoided saying anything about the Man-God to anyone, and now suddenly someone had spoken the god’s name, particularly a person who so thoroughly confused me. So, naturally, thinking that this was knowledge we both shared that would continue the conversation, I reacted to it without thinking. I replied ever so casually, “I do. He’s appeared in my dream-”_ *Later on in their fight, Rudeus came to understood what Disturb Magic was doing. It was negating a single school of his magic. He then found that if he were to combine his magic, he could get his casts off. Orsted notices this, and tries to imitate Rudeus's incantationless magic:* _“Hmph…you nullified my Disturb Magic? No, that’s not it… You’re using multiple schools of magic simultaneously. Quite skilled to be able to do that voicelessly. Like this, was it?” The man snapped his fingers on his left hand. When he did, a small, square, fifty-centimeter window formed in the air. It was a beautiful window, adorned with gorgeous dragon-shaped ornaments. “Hm. More difficult than I expected.”_ *Rudeus was losing consciousness so he launched the strongest attack he could imagine, without thinking of the consequences to Ruijerd and Eris nearby.* _"I ignored the window and focused on launching the fiercest fire attack against him that I could manage. What I pictured in my mind was an enormous flame. A mushroom cloud. A nuclear explosion. I channeled my magic as simply and straightforwardly as possible, as if powering up for a punch. I didn’t even think about the fact that Eris and Ruijerd might be caught up in it. I’d already lost the ability to think."_ *Finally, right before Rudeus was pierced, his last ditch attempt was to use the voice magic he learned in the Doldia Village in those 3 months the Anime mostly skipped. But he could only spit out blood and mana, confusing Orsted.* _“Guhugh!” I tried to use the roar I’d learned in the Doldia Village, the one that didn’t resemble theirs in the least. Orsted readied himself, but of course, all I was able to do was spit out blood to no effect."_ _"…Just mana? What are you trying to do?”_
Not really a spoiler since I have only watched the anime and it's just an educated guess based on the Japanese language, but just in case: ***SPOILER(?)*** Nanahoshi is most certainly a Japanese name and is probably written as 七星, which mean "Seven stars". And is also the name of a seven-spotted ladybug. So the chance that it's another reincarnated person is very likely, or at least the person that gave the name.
Prevailing anime-only theory, based on some chatter from the first responders to the accident in the first episode, is that she's the girl he saved before his original death and she was transported during the mana disaster (and the disaster may have resulted from said transport). Which would explain why she has a Japanese name and isn't afraid of Orsted.
For Rudy’s big purple fireball in the manga he thinks of the biggest possible thing he could think of which was a nuke if orsted didn’t block it woulda blew up the mountainside
12:15 I never thought about it in terms of "arcs" but now that you've said it: It would make sense to see it that way, in terms of story structure so far - - and going forward.
22:58 Actually, the fight itself has nothing to do Eleuthera why he called her a warrior in that moment. He called her a warrior because, by that world’s standards, she is now an adult(at 15) and he considers adults to be warriors because in his eyes, a Warrior’s purpose is to protect children.
the reason rudy replied so quickly to orsted was cause orsted was acting amicable to eris and ruijerd, he said he was glad to see they were doing well. and with the way he spoke like he knew who they were, rudy simply thought that orsted would be friendly.
After having read the Web Novel Years ago, and waiting for the new Redundancy Novels. Their discussion about Orsted is both magnificent and frustrating, and I love their discussions, it makes the knowledge I have more satisfying and can't wait for them to find out
To be fair rudy tries to be more proactive looking for information about the mana disaster, and orsted only posed a threat until naming the man god. Kishirika had also mentioned that Rudy had a similar amount of mana to Laplace's, that's partly because as Orsted said Paul shouldn't have a son, he was going to be born dead, but Rudy "absorbed" him. Here are the real main characters of this world :v
It has finally come!!! so excited for the discussions! XD the look on their faces after seeing what happened on the 1st second of this episode just right after talking about death in intro. priceless. haha
I've been so looking forward to this episode from ya'll. I personally experienced Turning Point 2 in the manga for the first time, which does not give the advanced warning about Orsted like the anime does. I found the whole scene to be far more tense and viscerally scary because of the surprise, and thus have found myself being disappointed in the show's choice of opening in media res. I've seen a lot of reactors vids on this episode (which summarily enforced my view), but many of those creators fail to pick up a lot of minutiae. Ya'll pick up damn near everything though, and is why I've enjoyed this series so much from you guys. It's fun to listen to the speculations you posit, as some are very accurate and others are humorously off-base, though understandable. Ultimately your discussion during and after this ep. has left me feeling pretty validated, where before I really couldn't tell if it was a bias of mine (like "This isn't how it's done in the manga/LN!! Harumph.") or a valid criticism of the direction choice. In total though, it's a great episode and I'm glad the show is getting such a great adaptation. I hope people keep enjoying it so much, so that maybe we get the treat of seeing the show done to the story's conclusion.
As someone who has read the novels for these guys to get so much stuff right after seeing an episode is crazy love them as creators need more ppl who will do 1 hour of full analysis on an anime episode
Rudeus engaging with Orsted isn't dumb at all. You both think it's dumb bc it ended up bad. This is what we know. -Rudeus isn't affected by the curse, so he doesn't fear him. -Rudeus has experienced the illogical behavior of the people in this world regarding the curses. Ruijerd was an example of that. People feared Ruijerd for no reason, remember Eris' first reaction to Ruijerd? -Rudeus didn't engage in any dangerous way. From Rudeus POV it doesn't make sense to assume there was any danger. In fact, Orsted engaged first and Rudeus just made some decent questions. What put him in danger was Man-God. - Rudeus reacted to the Man-God mention bc humans are like that. Imagine something that only shows up in our dreams and someone from the real world just mentions him in front of u? -Lastly, the idea that Rudy should act the same as the natives of the world makes no sense cause up until now it's Rudeus's judgment and decision-making that have gotten them where they are (physically and in regards to Ruijerds curse). Rudeus is the brains of the operation for all intents and purposes so your logic is incredibly flawed as if the natives know the way at all times, and know better. They don't, they actually put all of the decision-making burden on Rudy. Assessing the quality of a decision based solely on the outcome is not very smart.... consequences come after. Anyone would make amazing decisions after the fact. Bad decisions turn out okay and good decisions may not.
1:07:09 it because he MUST know how the thing work to do incantionless magic. Like fire and water he know what it is (cause he got isekai), but he not a doctor, that why he don't know how to heal him self with no incantaion.
The reason Rudeus engages to Orsted’s question is because he was surprised and also happy someone knew about Man-God and also that he could finally share his experience with him. It was a very normal reaction without thinking much at the moment. Could happen to anyone.
59:30 I recenlty thought about Laplace. There has been a popular mathematican called Laplace in our world. I thought, maybe the Laplace in this world could be the same one. And him being compared with Laplace reinforces my theory.
1:11:00 That last one doesn’t make sense. It’s not the inhabitants of the world that are cursed to fear Orsted, it’s Orsted’s curse to *be* feared by the inhabitants of that world. Also, take note of the mask Nanahoshi is wearing.
The deal with the Red Dragon mountain range isn't that the red wyrms there are protected, but that each individual wyrm is already an overwhelming opponent, and they swarm on whomever sets foot into those mountains. You cannot traverse the mountain range, only go around it at the Upper and Lower Red Dragon's Jaws. And they really swarm you, like Cliff Racers in Morrowind.

Here is his inner monologue when Orsted asked him about the Man-God:
""All right then, I'm sorry to have stopped -----"
It was exactly then, right as I was bowing my head in apology, that he said it. "You. Are you perhaps familiar with the name 'Man-God'?"
Finally, he'd said a word that I could understand.
I replied ever so casually, "I do, He's appeared in my dream ----"
Suddenly, my vision changed."
Btw, when Rudi channeled his last fireball:
"I ignored the window and focused on launching the fiercest fire attack against him that I could manage.

And he just had a fight with his father for not asking about mana disaster more and helping others too , that's why he thought of asking the guy who seemed like knew some info about the ongoing events in the world about the mana disaster and such
He was the first person to say anything about the Man-god too
By putting that scene first we also feel Orsted curse, unlike Rudeus.
wow that's so clever
He felt jt after
Eris' voice actress really gave her all in this episode.
This is nothing. Wait till they fight again. That and the events leading up to it is peak MT.

@@agm5424 Please don't spoil anything, but will it happen this season or do we have to wait another few years?
I love how the episode allows us, the viewers, to kinda feel Orsted's curses in real life.
Just like how people in that world will fear him even tho they don't know who he is, thanks to how the episode started, us viewers were scare/worry when Orsted appeared even tho we have no idea who he is. 1000 IQ decision from the studio right there 👏👏
58:29 Also, good question, what would the world be like if Rudy was never there? ... well, if we take a look at the ending, we can see Eris and Ruijerd on their journey, but Rudy is replaced with a blue sky and some clouds ... almost like its trying to show us how it's like if Rudy was "out of the picture" (literally)

Just as intended. ;)
cope harder... worst choice made all season.
Except this doesn't happen in the LN or the Manga. The anime screwed up here.
@@Apackof12ninjas why does it matter if it makes sense in the provided context?
@@dohalimilqarasdeldemenanci8483 So far in his experience fears of people in this world are a bit irrational. Like everyone being afraid of Ruijerd
But why are you telling this information ? I’m sure That will be sais in the anime so why the spoiler ?
@@MRST0R All that is in my comment is skipped content form the Light Novel. Most of it was mentioned in volume 1 or volume 4, which the anime already covered. So its not a spoiler, simply information that the anime decided to omit/sacrifice due to limited amount of episodes. If you read the Light Novel you know (im assuming you haven't). The events in which those exposition pieces were suppose to take place already passed in the story so its legit cut content of the adaptation.
I believe it was alluded to when he said that book was wrong about the mana pool being set and having to say the incantations for spells
I have consumed a lot of fantasy so i dont know which is which, but from what i remember of The Witcher 3, for example, the "Draconians" refer to all Dragon-like species of monter, which include Wyverns, for example.
Wyrm is another word for dragon.
Depending on context it could mean ancient or limbless (serpent dragon)
Types of dragons: Wyrm (serpent), Wyvern (4 limbs: wings that double as arms and legs), Dragon (6 limbs: 4 legs and 2 wings), Lindworm (2 limbs, serpent body with 2 arms), Drake (4 limbs: 4 legs). There is another but i dont remember the name of the it but its basically serpent body but with wings (like the Aztec god Quetzalcoatl)
yeah, in MT, wyrm and dragon are interchangeable, i dont think theres anything that is a wyrm and not considered a dragon
Not another word. Its a different type of dragon or it is not a dragon but a dragon like creature
15:19 The sound our dude makes right at this moment... That is the right expression towards Mushoku Tensei's greatness.
29:30 Anna hits is kinda here. The scene shows that one soes not have to "see" Orsted to be overcome with terror and hate.
16:04 Wyrms are basically a sister-species of dragons, similar to the difference between dragons and wyverns.
15:55 "Wyrm" is the German name for "Dragon".
A lot of people complain about it, but what Rudy did is one of the best things he's ever done for his future and that of his friends.

Oh right it's "that episode"
Wyrm is the Nordic/Germanic word for dragon. Usage in English usually varies between lesser dragons or ancient dragons.

Keep them coming!
a wyrm is pretty much a different name for a dragon. theyre not the same thing but theyre both very similar
wyrms are those snake-like dragons. Basically a dragon without wings and legs
S2 around the corner...
4:50 One day you'll understand why Orsted said things like this. And it's too early to fight Orstead. You have to live another 10,000 - 20,000 years.

@@antoinebrg6299 Eris was when she met Ruijierd
The episode is here! Finally! Couldn't wait to hear this discussion
Turning points change the entire structure and the plot of the story. Such a good story mechanism to use
To come to Rudeus defence, and explain why he engaged with Orsted, I will quote some stuff from the Light Novel. Also some interesting lines that add more to the confrontation, that the Anime left out.
*Showing that Rudeus was completely oblivious to this aura of dread Orsted was emitting*
_"There was more to this strangeness. There was the man’s attitude…or rather, the difference between that and their reactions. He came across as friendly. His voice was flat, but-and I didn’t know where it stemmed from-there was a quality to it that made him sound happy, like he’d been reunited with old friends."_
*Rudeus couldn't make sense of most of the conversation with Orsted. So when Orsted finally said something he did understand, his guard was let down.*
_"It was exactly then, right as I was bowing my head in apology, that he said it. “You. Are you perhaps familiar with the name ‘Man-God’?” Finally, he’d said a word that I could understand."_
_"Part of the problem was that I’d let my guard down, thinking that our conversation was already over. He’s appeared in my dream-”_
*Later on in their fight, Rudeus came to understood what Disturb Magic was doing. It was negating a single school of his magic. He then found that if he were to combine his magic, he could get his casts off. Orsted notices this, and tries to imitate Rudeus's incantationless magic:*
_“Hmph…you nullified my Disturb Magic? No, that’s not it… You’re using multiple schools of magic simultaneously. Quite skilled to be able to do that voicelessly. Like this, was it?” The man snapped his fingers on his left hand. When he did, a small, square, fifty-centimeter window formed in the air. It was a beautiful window, adorned with gorgeous dragon-shaped ornaments. “Hm. More difficult than I expected.”_
*Rudeus was losing consciousness so he launched the strongest attack he could imagine, without thinking of the consequences to Ruijerd and Eris nearby.*
_"I ignored the window and focused on launching the fiercest fire attack against him that I could manage. What I pictured in my mind was an enormous flame. A mushroom cloud. A nuclear explosion. I channeled my magic as simply and straightforwardly as possible, as if powering up for a punch. I didn’t even think about the fact that Eris and Ruijerd might be caught up in it. I’d already lost the ability to think."_
*Finally, right before Rudeus was pierced, his last ditch attempt was to use the voice magic he learned in the Doldia Village in those 3 months the Anime mostly skipped. But he could only spit out blood and mana, confusing Orsted.*
_“Guhugh!” I tried to use the roar I’d learned in the Doldia Village, the one that didn’t resemble theirs in the least. Orsted readied himself, but of course, all I was able to do was spit out blood to no effect."_
_"…Just mana? What are you trying to do?”_
Not really a spoiler since I have only watched the anime and it's just an educated guess based on the Japanese language, but just in case:
***SPOILER(?)***
Nanahoshi is most certainly a Japanese name and is probably written as 七星, which mean "Seven stars".
And is also the name of a seven-spotted ladybug.
So the chance that it's another reincarnated person is very likely, or at least the person that gave the name.
Good guess! All characters on MT so far have had western-style names, she is the only one with a Japanese one. Why could that be? :D
“You would not poke the bear” *Dont say yes, don’t say yes, don’t say yes* “no but” 😂
For Rudy’s big purple fireball in the manga he thinks of the biggest possible thing he could think of which was a nuke if orsted didn’t block it woulda blew up the mountainside
Let's goooooo!!!!
It's what happens after every Turning point that it's the most interesting in my opinion.
'Wyrm' is an old word for 'dragon', and is usually used to refer to an ancient dragon.
The chills I had watching this episode was crazy.
12:15 I never thought about it in terms of "arcs" but now that you've said it: It would make sense to see it that way, in terms of story structure so far -
- and going forward.
Their discussion about Orsted is both magnificent and frustrating, and I love their discussions, it makes the knowledge I have more satisfying and can't wait for them to find out
8:34 - holy shit, I have never seen people pick on it during reactions. Godlike channel!
Yeah I think they picked it up when Rudy mentioned it in episode 5
To be fair rudy tries to be more proactive looking for information about the mana disaster, and orsted only posed a threat until naming the man god.
Kishirika had also mentioned that Rudy had a similar amount of mana to Laplace's, that's partly because as Orsted said Paul shouldn't have a son, he was going to be born dead, but Rudy "absorbed" him.
Here are the real main characters of this world :v
Nanahoshi means "seven stars". One of the few proper nouns in Japanese in this show.
You guys also missed how rudeus put air into his lungs to get up
YES YES YES!!! I have been waiting months for this one
It has finally come!!! so excited for the discussions! XD
the look on their faces after seeing what happened on the 1st second of this episode just right after talking about death in intro. priceless. haha
Oh God, I've been waiting for this since ep one and the discussion hasn't disappointed
I feel the same, but I'm more excited to see their reaction to the immediate fallout of TP2.
Bad decisions turn out okay and good decisions may not.
that was great when have we seen death, cut to rudy with a hole in his chest talking about suddenly dying
I've read the novel to completion, and all i can say is, its my fav of all time
1:07:09 it because he MUST know how the thing work to do incantionless magic.
"When have we seen death?" Boy oh boy, that could not have been any more pertinent lmao.
59:30 I recenlty thought about Laplace. There has been a popular mathematican called Laplace in our world.
I thought, maybe the Laplace in this world could be the same one.
And him being compared with Laplace reinforces my theory.
Still haven't watch the reaction, but Im so hyped rn AN HOUR N HALF LENGHT DISCUSSION LETSGOO
And they really swarm you, like Cliff Racers in Morrowind.
this episode goes way harder than it needed to and I fucking love it
