I kinda knew in the first books that alec is more than just his bad mood and he showed it in so many beautiful ways. He is my fav character and always has been
Malec: have adventure and fun on their vacation, escaping death, and build their relationship stronger than ever. Camille in New York : now this looks like a job for me😈😌
I started my adventure with Shadowhunters from TV series (which I know isn't perfect but I absolutely adore nevertheless), so I came into the books already LOVING Alec as a character and knowing he is my beloved character from the very start (well, he and Magnus, really, I can't chose which one I like more... but I definitely don't like any other character more than them). And to be honest? I am NOT disappointed with Alec in books. I actually love him even more now, after reading all books he appears in (novellas included). That is /kind of/ the point? Him being a "moody b**tch"? He was shy, closeted, insecure, used to living in the shadows of others and not being noticed, bottling up his real emotions, angry at the whole world and lashing out because he was miserable. Like - it took ONE comment from Clary, girl he didn't know and had no reason to trust, about him being afraid of killing demons, to make him rush head first to the fight with a Greater Demon, and almost get himself killed. The thing with him never killing a demon before is that... Alec isn't really a killer. He is a protector. He will put his body between innocent people and the danger. He is an archer which allows him to fight from the distance, not because he is afraid he would get hurt, but because he can save more people this way. And in the span of all books and novellas we see him grow SO MUCH, partially thanks to Magnus and their love, into a grown up man with strong believes he is not afraid to voice, who is sure of himself and is a great father, husband and I am sure will be a wonderful political figure. And we can see this transformation happening right in front of our eyes. And it is GLORIOUS. Alec Lightwood is one of the best (as I said, can't pick between him and Magnus xD) characters Cassandra had ever created, and I really don't understand how more people can't see it.
I’m so glad the tv series inspired you to read the books! I agree Alec grew so much throughout the books, especially in the dark artifices I was so proud of everything he achieved.
I have read The Red Scroll of Magic - The Eldest Curses Book 1. It was great and also love listen to audiobook with the book with B.D. Wong narrating it. I'm looking forward to read Chain of Gold & TLBOTW a.k.a The Lost Book Of The White.
I’m still kind of new to the shadowhunters fandom. Im still reading the books after watching the show in January 2023 and I fell in love with Magnus and Alec. I honestly don’t care about anything or anyone else. The eldest curses are my favorite books.
yes you can start now! the book is set in between the TMI series. I have a whole video explaining the Shadowhunters reading order if you need more information ua-cam.com/video/scbnHKxNBjQ/v-deo.html
Sure! The plot has no connection to the mortal instruments except of course spoilers for what happened to certain characters in the earlier books/who is dating. This is a separate series that takes place in between the other books
If you don’t mind a few spoilers for the first three books from TMI then yes! The tv show changed a lot of the plot so it’s slightly different but you won’t be confused with the plot of Red Scrolls for sure.
Alec his the best character in the whole series!!!
YES. King of the Mortal Instruments
