Hey thanks so much for that awesome comment! It's kind words like these that make all the work I put into these tutorials worth while to know that it's helping people like you learn! Really appreciate it!
thank you soooooooo much for using your MOUTH to teach us instead of horror musics, cos its the first tutoriol of C4D ever i've heard a human talking into. really feeling grateful very helping tutoriol.
It was perfect. Thank you so much!! The Problem for spline bendings..,, It is because of we choose first the bezier and change it. When we change it, bending of the spline is getting distort. How I solve is I first set the Spline Type as a B- Spline then I add The IK and other stuff.. I had so much fun with this Thank yoU again~~
Hey, thank you for one of the best tutorials on here, how did you make Lemon appear to be “going somewhere” mine makes the motion but appears stationary? Hope this makes sense, thanks
Fantastic tutorial! Just a couple of questions... first of all, I don't have the option of creating a keyframe specifically for Y and Z (positions), I have to create a general one including everything, and I wondered if there is a way of activating that option. Also, the waves don't appear in my timeline so I can't edit the position from there. Thanks for making these tutorials, they are so useful and fun!
Greetings all the way from Papua New Guinea, Great tutorials as always, just one question, can you make a tutorial on how to animate cartoon facial rigging, it would be really awesome. Thanx for the great stuff man.
You're welcome! You can make one parent null that you can place the entire rig in and then thats what you can use to animate the character going forward
great tutorial! just a question. I'm all done animating but the viewport and the actual final render isnt matching up. the legs are all over the place in the picture viewer window! help please. :)
Both legs? If so, create some Poles that define where the knees should point! Learn more about it here: www.eyedesyn.com/tutorials/rigging-a-simple-cartoon-character-in-cinema-4d/

If anyone still faces this problem - it`s all about hierarchy, place your Spline above Cylinder. Full topic forums.cgsociety.org/t/problem-with-rendering-ik-rig/1717474/4
Very Simple on point tutorial...love it...just a couple question Ejay, what C4D version are you using...& how can you personalise your Interface...hope you dont mind my asking... thanx and keep em coming tuts....
hey EJ. i was wondering if you have a basic character model which you can modify for all your characters ? would love if you can tell us how a basic 3D character modeling workflow is ;-)
Outstanding video and clear instructions as always! Thank you so much for these tutorials! I do have a question though... What kind of system are you using and what graphics GPU do you use? Right now I am using a HP Workstation, 32GB RAM, 2 x Intel Xeon 3.0ghz quad core, 2 x Nvidia Quadro FX3800 1GB and a 250GB SSD. I still have issues with lag or trying to animate. Cinema 4D and After Effects CS6 is slow to render and live preview is choppy at best. Wondering what system you use for smooth animations and previews like this video?
Thanks for your kind words, Nathan! As for your question, for my tutorials I'm rendering at a smaller resolution and for a character that isn't too complex, it doesn't really tax my system. I'm using the trash can Mac Pro but I can tell you that for mograph, you want to do 2 things. Get an SSD (I'd go bigger than 250), up your GFX cards (I'd do some research as to the best for C4D/Octane/AE), and get 64GB RAM. If you're worried about performance, I'd seriously look into a 3rd party renderer like Octane or Arnold. Hope that helps!
Hello! I followed the tutorial step by step, but when I rendered the final video the knees didn't work properly and the legs moved in a crazy way. However, when I press play to see how the animation is going, it looks just fine. Am I missing something here? Thanks for your help and for your awesome tutorials!
Some other had this issue as well, on the flipped knee, just go to the pole vector Twist and change it to 180º, it'll render in viewport oddly but will render fine in Picture Viewer
Thx EJ. Question: Can you do a walk cycle with the pose morph at all? If it works, it seems like it would give you more flexibility when coming out of the walk.
Hey EJ, first off, thanks for the great tutorials! I have followed this one, and have an animated ukulele character working pretty well. Now I want to bake it down to point level animation (to make an army of walking ukuleles!) and I'm a bit stumped. Is there an efficient way to bake this guy down to a single mesh with either PLA or Point Cache, or maybe Alembic?
Thank you. I animated a character moving on a bicycle successfully, however: when I move it into a new project (under a null in object mode), I cannot scale or rotate it, it messes everything up. Making it impossible to move my character onto a spline in a new scene. Is there a fix for this? Baking the animation e.g.?
Has anyone had an issue where the spline rotations keep randomly changing? Every time i playback or change anything slightly it knocks the limb spline rotations all over the place and breaks the legs
Hey EJ, how do you get the facial features on there? Every time I try to "wrap" an object around a character's face/body, I get a big old messy tangle of wonky geometry.
Awesome Tutorial EJ! I have a quick question, when setting up the first key frames I noticed your legs bend when the body bobs? For some reason that doesn't happen on my end any idea why, they just remain straight?
Hey EJ, I've ran into a really annoying issue somehow. Whenever I render, the arm animations are really jerky as if they're at a lower framerate compared to everything else. Importing the scene into After Effects and rendering inside it seems to fix the issue. But I'd really like to do this without depending on AE as a fix. Is there an easy solution for this? I'd like to post a link to the animation as .gif so you could see what I'm talking about, but I'm afraid UA-cam will make my comment out to be spam. Thank you so much for all your tutorials, there's no one else like you out there right now!
Make sure your priorities are correct! So C4D renders objects from top to bottom, so you want to have the Spline & IK Tag first, then Spline Wrap. Because you want the spline to deform first by the Goal, etc, then have the Spline Wrap wrap the geometry around it. It's as important as stacking effects in AE correctly. You want to blur, then glow. Not glow, then blur, if you understand what I mean. Good luck!
Hi EJ! I'm quite new to Char rigging. I've been trying out the 'Character' rigging method for a quick rig up, why don't you use that? Is your method here more flexible and easier? Cheers Arran
Hey EJ, got a quick question. I'm trying to animate the ape you made but when I set a keyframe for the first pose then try and set them for the second, the first pose has the coords from the second pose! I've got the hip bobbing so I'm definitely just not keyframing it wrong. Many thanks!
Hey James! Not entirely sure what the issue could be, but you may have accidentally reset the pose somehow... or not set keyframes for all the stuff you need to keyframe. I sometimes move something accidentally and it resets the PSR, so just be sure to check!
eyedesyn would it have anything to do with both leg splines being in the body group that's going up and down? If not I'll just have to watch the whole video again! 😁
Hey, me again! Had a chance to come back to this and still can't figure out where i'm going wrong :( Would you mind taking a look at the video i captured to see if you can spot where i'm going wrong? Many thanks! ua-cam.com/video/YtXIhvZSX4E/v-deo.html
yo man, good tutorial thanks, question tho, when i create my loop, it seems there is a stutter in the animation, and my first and last keyframes are the same...any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks!
Just some words, EJ... a new year is starting, and i just want to say THX for the works you're doing, sharing here. Your channel is really cool, colourful, fun, each vid' always a pleasure to look at ! Goes on, buddy, and change nothing ! cool vid's + refreshing graphic styles + shiny teeth + big smile = Real friendly channel !!! Happy new year, mate. (°v°)l
Thank you so much for your kind words, they really mean alot! Very happy that you're enjoying the content I'm making! Definitely more to come! Thanks again!!
HI! I can´t "loop" the keyframes or just grab them, they only move in the timeline. What shortcut or what can I do? also copy/paste manual doesn't seem to work
In the future I'll do another one, this lemon character is fairly easy to make using Sub-D modeling, learn about it here: www.eyedesyn.com/tutorials/intro-to-subdivision-surface-modeling-in-cinema-4d/
Just want to say thank you SOOO much! Your enthusiasm as well as your ability to explain things clearly and SIMPLY really make these tutorials great.

You as well, always glad to hear form you!
cute character and nice walk cycle! cheers EJ!
Thanks Irakli! Appreciate the kind words!
your renders bro.
damn so realistic
Would be way better if I had Octane! Gonna look into getting it next year...this render took WAYYYY too long. :O
eyedesyn good luck!
Thanks buddy!
great tutorial :) i've been looking for this tutorial for years :) thanks my friend :)
Hope you find it useful! Thanks!
EJ! Bro! I was just randomly doing tutorials, came across your dude! Great Job! :)
Thanks Ramon! Hope you enjoyed them!
amazing as usual thanks bro
Thanks for this useful tutorial, keep it up!
i wish we could download your rigs! cuz i have a project and i really need a cute character for it, the lemon one is so cute tbh!
You can't download them but you can build your own very easily! Give it a try!
eyedesyn sorry but too late I don’t care for it anymore, I downloaded another one
Well fine then! :P
Thanks, you just saved me in my homework. ❤️❤️
noyce! happy to hear, hope you get bonus points! haha
¡¡Gracias por compartirlo eyedesyn!! You make my year!! :)
great tutorial. thanks bro!
You bet! Glad you liked it!
thank you man you're awesome!!
Thanks for watching!
Hey, thank you for one of the best tutorials on here, how did you make Lemon appear to be “going somewhere” mine makes the motion but appears stationary? Hope this makes sense, thanks
Maybe because there is no sliding of the feet? Hard to tell without looking at your animation!
Great work men. Very energetic, precise and packed with informations. You would make a very great teacher ;)
Thanks very much! I try to make learning this stuff fun! :)
Great! I really like this tutorial! Thanks
Really happy to hear that! Thanks for your views!
are you welcome @eyedesyn
hey Dude, thank U for your tutorials, very helpfull and fun ;) congrat!
Thanks! Glad you enjoy them, thanks for watching! :)
you saved my animation. thank you
Woo hoo! Glad I could help! :)

Thanks very much for the kind words! I def have a facial rigging tutorial on tap in the future!
Awesome. Thanks so much!
This helped me thank you so much! :)
awesome to hear, thanks for watching!!!!
Thank you a lot for such a detailed tutorial! But how to make my chatacter move not on the spot but for example from point A to point B?
You're welcome! You can make one parent null that you can place the entire rig in and then thats what you can use to animate the character going forward
great !!!! love your tutorial
Great to hear! Appreciate you watching!
Thank you! You've helped me a lot!!!
Me encantan todos tus videos 👌
Gracias!
I wish have your knowledge abnout C4D :'( you are the master of masters.
i love your work!
thank you.
and if i want to cycle the animation more then this amount of frame?
great tutorial! just a question. I'm all done animating but the viewport and the actual final render isnt matching up. the legs are all over the place in the picture viewer window! help please. :)

yeah ! i have a same problem, my charater looks like broken legs lol ( in render ) DId you solve this problem proparly ?
i did it by mess up with poles. in picter viewer my legs are INCORRECT, but in render its ok.
If anyone kow how to solve this please report.
It was perfect. Thank you so much!!

Lol. you're so funny! Super awesome tutorial! Can't wait to play around with the program. =)
Thanks Kelly! Glad you enjoyed the tutorial and looking forward to see what you create in C4D! :)
Very Simple on point tutorial...love it...just a couple question Ejay, what C4D version are you using...& how can you personalise your Interface...hope you dont mind my asking... thanx and keep em coming tuts....
Thanks man! So for this tutorial i was using R18 and personalizing your interface is a good tutorial subject that I will cover soon!
Hi EJ, do you have a Facebook Account or something that I can use to show you what I did following your one of your tutorial on Cell Shading...???
hey EJ. i was wondering if you have a basic character model which you can modify for all your characters ? would love if you can tell us how a basic 3D character modeling workflow is ;-)
I plan on doing more tutorials on this subject in the future!
Thx for your answer. Oh, cool, I am looking forward to this :-]
Great stuff!! Appreciate!
Thanks Andy!

Totally! For this instance though I decided against Pose Morph to show hand keyframing.
Super cool. I'd love to see a tut on that. Keep up the good work!
Realy nice thanks a
lot
Thanks! Appreciate you watching!
Hey EJ, first off, thanks for the great tutorials! I have followed this one, and have an animated ukulele character working pretty well. What's the best way to save a walk cycle or any various character animation so you can apply it to the same character model later on?
I would say for this setup, just reuse the rig and replace out all the geometry thats being deformed by the Spline Wraps with new ones
Has anyone had an issue where the spline rotations keep randomly changing? Every time i playback or change anything slightly it knocks the limb spline rotations all over the place and breaks the legs
Hey EJ, how do you get the facial features on there? Every time I try to "wrap" an object around a character's face/body, I get a big old messy tangle of wonky geometry.
i just line them up and add bend deformers...the cheap manual way haha
Awesome Tutorial EJ! I have a quick question, when setting up the first key frames I noticed your legs bend when the body bobs? For some reason that doesn't happen on my end any idea why, they just remain straight?
Update: I pulled the IK Goal Null out of the group and it seems to work fine?
Yep, that's one of the steps is to remove the Leg Goals out so the feet stay planted to the ground!
Hey EJ, I've ran into a really annoying issue somehow.

What i would love to know is how you made that leaf XD
Check out my Intro to Subdivision Surface Modeling for a little idea how to make the leaf!
Thanks :) also I've taught myself a lot from your videos: imgur.com/VKpwGe9 imgur.com/HeIT1Co twitter.com/David_G_Burns/status/800365284884418561
Hi. I have a question? For 3D animations like Tickler Bell and Transylvania Hotel. What software is used?
im guessing maya??
@@eyedesyn Thank you
Hi EJ!
I'm quite new to Char rigging. I've been trying out the 'Character' rigging method for a quick rig up, why don't you use that?
Is your method here more flexible and easier?
Cheers
Arran
Watch and you'll find out that this is totally different than the Character Object rig and way less complicated
Hey EJ, got a quick question. I'm trying to animate the ape you made but when I set a keyframe for the first pose then try and set them for the second, the first pose has the coords from the second pose! I've got the hip bobbing so I'm definitely just not keyframing it wrong. Many thanks!

No, you'd want the leg splines in that hierarchy....the thing you don't need in the body hierarchy is the leg goals.
Hey, me again! Had a chance to come back to this and still can't figure out where i'm going wrong :( Would you mind taking a look at the video i captured to see if you can spot where i'm going wrong? Many thanks! ua-cam.com/video/YtXIhvZSX4E/v-deo.html
Figured it out, solo animation needed to be ticked under properties
that face reminds me of the style of gumball, it's one of my favorite styles.
That and Adventure Time! Love em!
FANTASTIC!!! Thank you so much for this Lemon guy and the jokes... LOL!! :)
:) :) :) Very welcome!
can someone explain how you put in the character? like for example the lemon or whatever? to be an animator do you have to draw?
Modeled it out of a basic sphere shape using Subdivision Surface. To be an animator you do not need to draw, no!
yo man, good tutorial thanks, question tho, when i create my loop, it seems there is a stutter in the animation, and my first and last keyframes are the same...any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks!
I LOVE U
Feeling all the love today, thanks!!! :)
can you tell me, how a character moving forward and backwards by walk-in cinema 4d? Please...
Look into time remapping!
Just some words, EJ... a new year is starting, and i just want to say THX for the works you're doing, sharing here.

Thank you so much for your kind words, they really mean alot! Very happy that you're enjoying the content I'm making! Definitely more to come! Thanks again!!
Hi,
I did as you did but while moving the object .. the legs and arms are flipping continuosly.. do you know what may the issue?
You may need to create Poles to ensure the elbows are pointing the correct direction
hi,
even after adding poles, each time i open the file on cinema 4d i have to adjust the poles position ..
HI! I can´t "loop" the keyframes or just grab them, they only move in the timeline. What shortcut or what can I do? also copy/paste manual doesn't seem to work
Select the animation track and in the attributes tab there will be a dropdown that says continue, change it to repeat
Greet video, what program do u use?
It's in the title of the tutorial!!!! :P
oh! haven't noticed that. Thanks for replying :d
Great one, but how you rigged that character?
There's a rigging tutorial that I mention in the tutorial, there's links in the description!
Can u make a tutorial on how to make little toys im just getting into this type of stuff so yeah
Modeling them? I have one out about modeling a bull if you want to check that one out!
ua-cam.com/video/6CgFPlALlqY/v-deo.html
alright thanks bro Nice videos also
Hey thanks! Hope you find the tutorials helpful!
So you don’t use bones ?
It's not working... the goal null appears but somehow isn't attached to anything.
This is making with C4D R18, right?
You can make this in any recent version of C4D but yes this was R18
Can I have the Texture for the Lemon? ^^
The texture is a simple noise, you can create it very easily!
Nice ^^, Would you do a Tutorial how to make the Character ^^?
In the future I'll do another one, this lemon character is fairly easy to make using Sub-D modeling, learn about it here:
www.eyedesyn.com/tutorials/intro-to-subdivision-surface-modeling-in-cinema-4d/
Ok, Thx I will try it out ^^
please give this model
the rigging is the issue...you know bones
